What was wrong with it?

Holy crap!! What year is that thing?

Ah... that's why you didnt need to swap anything on your ZJ. Yeah, the ZJ or XJ bracket wil work fine.

Hello all! I just swapped out my idiot light gauge cluster in my 87 for a cluster that has oil pressure, temp, and ammeter guages along with the speedo and the fuel gauge. Everything works well after changing the oil pressure and temp sensors. One weird thing going on is that the speedo needle jumps all over the place until I hit approximately 35-40mph, then it climbs abd falls pretty smoothly UNTIL the speed dips below 35, then it's all over the place again. What gives?

Any bracket and pump out of a 96 and up 4.0 will work. I used one out of a 96 XJ when I upgraded my ZJ.

Where is it leaking from? As far as the exhaust, I'm running a 2.25" downpipe into a 2.5" Magnaflow glasspack, then into a full case Magnaflow muffler with a dump prior to my rear axle. It sounds great (to me), is quiet at cruising speeds, and it feels like I picked up some power in the bargain over the stock, rusted out set up.

I wish OME made leaves for MJ's!! I have a full set of their coils on my ZJ and they're fantastic. 90mph in the dunes feels verg, very stable with OME springs. So... I measured my front end today. It seems that the springs I have on the front have lifted my vehicle a bit OVER 3 inches, despite bei g advertised as 2.5". I think they were meant for a heavuer 4.0 equipped XJ vs my flyweight 2.5 MJ. I'm keeping the front end as-is, probably just going to get adjustable arms to kick my front axle forward a bit (it only rubs at the trailing edge of the flare). With that said, would you guys recommend the HC 3" packs, or just go with the General Springs Metric ton set?

Is the HC 3" lift pack good for loads, or will I flatten it out in quick fashion?

Hello all. As my MJ build progresses, I've come to the point where I would like some more lift for the rear end. Currently, I'm running 2-2.5 inches of lift in the front (am thinking of adding another inch). In the rear, I'm still running the stock 2wd SporTruck leaves. Now, what I would like out of this vehicle is kind of a jack of all trades. The MJ will be my main camping/lomg range camping/expedition vehicle as well as being able to be driven on a daily basis, have the ability to haul a decent load, AND still be able to keep up (somewhat) with my ZJ in the high speed desert tracks we often wheel out here. Right now, I have Rancho springs in the front and SkyJacker Hydro 5000 shocks all around. They work very, very well for what I want right now, I would just like to stop my 31's rubbing my flares when turning in reverse, and need to stop dragging my hitch when crossing through ditches. I've looked at General Spring and Hell Creek. My question is, which would be better for my needs, the HC 3" lift pack, or the General Sprin Metric Ton pack combined with some good quality shackles? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Been thinking of throwing the old M1 into a McMillan chassis, actually. A Tavor WOULD be VERY cool, though.

I see your point about keeping traffic in one area, BUT if you ever do decide to make different rooms within the Tech section, I'd be glad to help sort the old posts. My OCD should be used for the good of mankind!

Building The 2.5 Or Just Swapping For 4.0
benjy_26 replied to Jeepjeff859's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Reliability is a wash between the 4.0 and the 2.5. As far as more hp and tq, the 4.0 takes the cake, at the cost of more weight and heat. Personally, I own 2 jeeps. One with a hopped up L6 and one with a TBI 2.5. To be perfectly honest, the 6 is a BLAST to drive, but I don't feel that the 4 banger is underpowered at all. It does just fine on the highway, in the city, and even towing/hauling within reason. -
You may need load equalizers.

How are y'all mounting your TJ/KJ tire carriers? Flat on the bed?
-
Cool deal! Thanks Jim!
-
I'll have to look into it. The deal is, I think I have to mount em horizontally. Even with the stock fully collapsed, you can see my AR's muzzle through the rear window. Maybe this is the universe's way of telling me I DO need to get that Sig 556. :D
-
How would you attach it? I've thought about it,but don't want to put any more holes in the cab. Maybe if one were to attach it to the seat?
-
Dude! I hate you! I've been wanting a 5 speed ZJ for ever! Nice work so far. :)

I LOVE the antler! Good work, man. Keep it up!

lol sorry, man.
