http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/pts/1791878065.html I'd grab these if I needed more wheels

Been a while since I took a pic with 'everyone' in it: & the 'new' one:
-
figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. :D BTW it's begging for a shave & mirror drop
-
Yes you do. (tho an action shot, like sitting there with smoke boiling off the back tires wouldn't hurt :brows: )

My sister in law got an oil change at 'Jiffy Lube', it seemed fine at first, then after a day, or so she had ZERO oil pressure. None, it would start up, and run 'OK' (It was a Plymouth Horizon, so it's hard to tell when those POS's are running poorly anyway  ), but no oil pressure on the gauge. First thing I did was remove the filter, and it was BONE DRY. Not a single drop of oil came out of it, like you just pulled it out of the box. I put a new filter on it, and the car had pressure again. My best guess was the filter was somehow internally blocked, but the engine was only able to push the fresh oil through the it's internal bypass for the first day. (I'm guessing Horizon engines had the bypass like most other engines, to deal with clogged oil filters). All I really learned was: don't go to Jiffy Lube filters can be bad off the shelf and Plymouth Horizons will sometimes try to kill themselves.

good to know, thanks for the pic, did you use all of the cherokee springs in it minus the main leaf ? MJ main leaf + everything but the XJ main leaf (with MJ shackles).
-
 Did you try in with a lower case 'c' in 'com'? poor job, I know, but like this: or Would also be interesting in the newer, late model XJ font.
-
Right now my SOA MJ is sitting pretty low in the back, I'm using an MJ main leaf, with XJ leafs underneath. I don't have that many good pics of it, but here's the back with a 33"x10" tire on a 16" wheel: Judge the height for yourself, but I'd guess 2-3". The reason for the low height is it's currently unregistered, once I put it on the road that first inspection sticker is always a little tougher to get, so I'm keeping it low for now.

I found this when I was looking for fender pics for another thread: and I had to share. more pics here: http://supafly.com/slammed-63-chevy-truck/ I'm not a fan of lowriders, but there's something about a truck just 'sitting' right on the ground that I do like. :dunno:

Fender flares for a Comanche with Cherokee 2001 front
jpnjim replied to dan12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Anyone have any thoughts of what brand-X (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc) wheel well openings that could be grafted on the back, and decently match the late model XJ front? I'm looking for a bigger opening (to fit a 37" Bogger) for the back. A wheel well patch panel from a full size truck might give me a good starting point. Not looking for a ton of tire coverage (my rear axle is a little narrower than stock), but a bigger opening that will provide 'some' coverage, and look OK burned into an MJ bed. ??? -
Sorry Jim. :(

Here's some J20 rear springs for comparison: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-rea ... ccessories Fat in the middle, and tapering towards the ends (looks like they'd be big $$$ to reproduce that) I don't think I've ever seen a 3 leaf pack where ALL the leafs were FULL length!!: You could make 3 sets of 1-ton MJ AAL's with them. :rotfl2: Or bolt them in as-is for a 'Metric Deuce & A Half MJ'. :smart:

Brackets look beefy  Can't wait to see it done.

Good info, thanks.

Anyone can make one bad filter. Fram makes a point of making every filter bad. The 360 in my old J4600 (early J20) would rattle, knock, and show zero oil pressure when it first started up. this was back in the early 1990's when I exclusively used Fram filters (they 'used' to be very good). I put one of those 'oil additives' in it, and the rattling & knocking went away, but it still showed zero pressure for the first 30 seconds to a minute after every cold start. After years of this (and continuing to think Fram made the best filters), I switched to a different brand, viola, oil pressure came right up. I still have a few Fram filters leftover from back then, I wouldn't put them on my lawnmower now. FWIW, I supported Fram because they continued to make an HP (high performance, high pressure) filter that fit AMC's. I was not using that filter on the Jeep (too much $$, and not warranted in this application), but I like to support those who support my hobby.

I like this one more better.

It was the mailman's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same neighborhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route he was greeted by the whole family there, who congratulated him and sent him on his way with a big gift envelope. At the second house they presented him with a box of fine cigars. The folks at the third house handed him a selection of terrific fishing lures. At the fourth house he was met at the door by a strikingly beautiful woman in a revealing negligee. She took him by the hand, gently led him through the door, and led him up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced. When he had had enough they went downstairs, where she fixed him a giant breakfast, eggs, potatoes, ham, sausage, blueberry waffles, and fresh squeezed orange juice. When he was truly satisfied she poured him a cup of steaming coffee. As she was pouring, he noticed a dollar bill sticking out from under the cup's bottom edge. "All this was just too wonderful for words," he said, "but what's the dollar for?" "Well," she said, "last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day, and that we should do something special for you. I asked him what to give you." He said, "Scr*w him, give him a dollar." The lady then said, "The breakfast was my idea."

That 2dr Limited is even rarer than the MJ. Nice find.

I might have just got a 'bad batch', I found other catfish I liked (cory cats, upside down cats, bumblebee cats, etc), and went with those after the Clown Loaches were gone. One I really liked was an angelicus cat (the spotted silver/white kind), I had a pair in a brackish tank (with a figure 8 puffer, and some other brackish fish). When one of the pair died, I 'converted' the other to salt (gradually increased salt levels, till it was the same as my salt tank). Only fish I ever made money on, I think the pet store gave me like $25, because he was a salt water fish. :D
-
The ones I had were little a** h****. Mean as anything, would flip over and use their upside down mouths to torment the other fish. I think there was a red tail black shark that they took extra pleasure in going after. I guess I should've goven them some snails to devourer instead. :D Beautiful fish tho, I probably should've tried getting them again later on when I had a less peaceful tank (more aggressive fish)

Fender flares for a Comanche with Cherokee 2001 front
jpnjim replied to dan12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I tried using late model front flares on the back: and hacked up a late model bumper cap to fill in the gap: but even if the cap had looked good cut down (it doesn't), the funky angle of the ft flare doesn't compliment the rear body lines like it does the front: I also tried using a wrap around bumper to fill the section under the ft flare, but didn't like that either: BTW, if you're wondering why the rear panel was cut that far back: I flipped the leafs, just to try it, had to chop just to get the tires to roll. I have some MJ flares that I ground down the edge to look more like a late model flare, in the end I'll probably end up using those. -
Don't know about that. This is a small, one owner operation but he does stay somewhat informed as I found out when I asked the price of the taillights. He said he had to go inside and check online and see what they were going for. When he asked me what shape they were in, I had to be brutally honest and tell him that they were in excellent shape. ( hopefully to further my reputation for honesty and integrity, and build on that rapport I spoke of earlier) But then again, you may be onto something. When he first came back, he wanted $50 apiece for the taillights and $60 for the seat. After a period of getting better acquainted and talking on things other than auto parts, I got the seat and taillights for $100, and he threw in the headliner, which I need badly. My Comanche doesn't have one and my son's does, and it's amazing how much quieter his is than mine. I still haven't given up on the idea of acquiring the entire vehicle though. Just taking things slow and see what may be arranged. Wow, I never went through that much negotiating at a yard. When you said $100, I was thinking more like: "I walked carrying the seat, tail lights & headliner, the guy sorta looked up from his newspaper/computer/girlie mag/whatever, and said $100" That's how it usually went for me. The last time I got the high price/hard sell I left the item on the counter, and walked out. They were marker lights that only fit 1971 Javelins, the guy had absolutely no idea what they fit, and he wanted way too much for them.

30x9.50s on those rims will not hit the flares, but they will rub the lower control arms. My XJ: 1998 4.5" RE coils, (slightly trimmed to give a true 4") RE adjustable flex lowers, RE fixed uppers 3.5" RE leafs W/extended shackles. Flares were trimmed to stuff 32x11.5 BFG's (on 4"bs Eagle 15x7's) & 31x10.5 TrXus's (on 5.25"bs ARE 15x8's) I took the 32's off, and put Factory TJ 30x9.5's, on 15x8 TJ Canyon Wheels (5.5"bs). When backing up, and turning (like EVERY time I back into the driveway), the 30's rub the flares.
-
Other than the temporary mini-spare's wheel, every stock XJ/MJ wheel had 5.25" backspacing. All factory XJ/MJ aluminum 15x7's, all steel 15x7's, and even the steel 15x6's all got 5.25" backspacing. (the wagon wheel type XJ/MJ wheel was a 15x7). There is a star style steel wheel that some base ZJ's got, that wheel had 5" backspacing (tho a very similar XJ star wheel had the 5.25"). I believe the 15x7 ZJ canyon wheels were 5.25"bs, but i gave my last set away a few years ago, and forget now. All YJ wheels (6" & 7') got the same 5.25" bs as XJ's except for the 15x8 YJ Renagade (Gambler style) wheel, that was 5.5" bs (same as all TJ 15x8's).

I know this is semantics, but I will say the first generation Cougars had a 3" longer wheelbase, all unique sheetmetal, and a laundry list of options you could not get on a Mustang. Since 'badge engineering' usually stops far short of stretching the chassis for more wheelbase, I'd consider it more of a rebody than badge engineering. And although I realize all the first generation ponycars used the same ft suspension, similar body pans/unibody's & drivetrains as their economy based corporate siblings, I'd stop short of calling Mustang a 'rehashed' Falcon, first gen Camaro's 'rehashed' Nova's, and AMX/Javelin's 'rehashed' Ramblers. The first gen Baracuda's are tougher to defend against calling them re-hashed Darts, tho I'd fall back on the 're-bodied' statement (even though Mopar labeled both 'A-body's') This was all back when engineering was done with pad & pencil, & the quickest way to the showroom floor was to use underpinnings from similar size & weight economy cars. I don't know how to defend that similar cars produced by the same manufacturer could have similar underpinnings, without considering everything a re-badge, or a re-hash.
