Motion vs Rusty's coil springs
jpnjim replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've been in this situation. When everything else fails, a claim to the credit card usually does the trick. As far as Rusty's vs everyone else, I'm down to just 2 Rusty's items on my Jeeps: steering brace on the trail MJ (repositioned & rewelded to fit around a set back winch) and 3" ft springs on the Grandpa MJ (sagged to ~2.25", good match to level 22 year old 2wd rear springs) -
When I got it (Rustoleum Yellow): In transition (some yellow, 2001 Sienna Pearlcoat & MJ Red bed): Mostly one color (2001 XJ Sienna Pearcloat): Red (actually a shade, or two lighter than stock & partially sun-flattened): Flat Black (Rustoleum Rattlecan): Gloss Black (3/4 repaint of factory color):

What if you need it out mid-winter (frozen) to carry something big? That was my only question with these.

Wow Jim, I would've guessed you'd say you had em' since the the 1980's. well, 19 MJ's in 3 years, that still puts you at the head of the class.

too late, I'm in full Black-Ops/Ninja gear, creeping back home, with it in my duffel bag right now :wrench: Nothing to see here folks, move along please.

Wow! I was not expecting this much progress already! You rock

What tonneau cover? The only thing I can see in that pic is a PERFECT MJ rear bumper

The name of the pin is "Pin, Check Arm" as listed in the parts catalog and is Part #5501 2900 Found this write-up and in that write-up he used "The Doorman part number is 38439 (also known as Help parts)". Hope that helps ya out :D It does! Thank You! (I've been meaning to ask this for a while).

There's been threads like this before, but I don't think we ever had an all in one inclusive thread... So who's had MJ's the longest, the most MJ's the most miles on MJ's, etc etc... I know I'm not even in the running, but here goes: Bought my first & second MJ's in 1996 (LWB, then a SWB). Both were daily drivers, followed by 2 more daily drivers since then (SWB's, still have both). I don't rack up many miles, lucky to put 5k miles on an MJ a year, so I'd say less than 50-60k MJ miles in the last 15 years. Next....

Cement blocks + filled to the top with heavy wet snow got my 2wd LWB MJ (3.5" on 31's) through the worst storm of my adult life (April Fools day Blizzard 1997.... :ack: ) 30+ inches on the ground, and 4-5 foot drifts... Overnight... in April :ack: :ack: :ack: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fool ... y_Blizzard

 thanks. I would LOVE to travel cross country on/in this :rotfl2: :jump: :rotfl2: edit, though uphill would suck not being able to stand up for extra power. :ack: :ack: :ack:

I noticed that Craftsman Torx tips are permanently pressed in their chrome sockets now (for the last 4-5 years atleast). Before that they would easily pull out (for replacement) with a pair of pliers. They are still removable, but with a little more destructive force, IIRC, a flat punch, and a sledge hammer will drive them out from behind.
-
Yep, what everyone else said, just the Torx tip, with a wrench attached. Even if you could somehow squeeze a short Torx socket + ratchet in there, beware, as you back the bolt out, you get less and less room to remove the tool/bolt. Slight thread derail.... does anyone have a source for replacements for the "door restraint (check) retaining pin" from step one? (I guess I could look in the 'Help' section at the auto parts store :dunno: ) I'm using 1/4" bolts in both my DD Jeeps, and the clunk-cluunk noise every time I open & close the doors is getting old. :ack:

jpnjim replied to jeepdoggydogB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not ignoring you Don, just wanted to give Spencer the opportunity to reply, since he was in this thread earlier. Either way, I hope you guys can work it out, & thank you for the advice. Seems like he makes good stuff at any rate. Jimmy -

sorry for the thread hijack JDD,.... but Spencer, are you able to tweak your designs a little? like turn this: into this: And/or possibly changing the 'Pioneer' wording to something else in the same font. (apologies for 'borrowing' your Ebay pic) Thanks, Jimmy -
 good thread  Thanks for taking the time to post this.
-
Why do you say that Jim? :D Thanks mate, I'll check it out although it looks like a refurbished wheel, not NOS. But I do need a spare. :D Ooops I meant to say 'written' all over it (edited now). I'm just surprised I saw it before you did. :D Not sure about the refurb vs NOS, 'NOS' gets overused & abused on Ebay, plenty of knockoff aftermarket crap labeled as NOS as well. :( Good luck.

If the temp goes to 190, then drops, the thermostat is cycling. When the thermo opens @190, the cold water in the radiator rushes in, drops the engine temp. Then thermostat closes, and it starts again. Sounds like the thermostat is working. I'd say either: 1) It's too cold out, and your radiator is overcooling your engine or 2) Your coolant level is low (= no heat), AND your gauge is incorrect (possibly due to low coolant levels). #1 seems more likely to me. :dunno:
