  1. So... Do you think I should sell these and pick up some of your refered brands? I would like a comfortable ride and I just don't think I am going to get it with these springs. Thanks!
  2. Which brake hoses should I get for a 3 inch lift? Does anyone have any part numbers on which hoses to buy, left and right are unique. Thanks!
  3. What shocks should I buy for a nice (on road mostly) ride for a 3 inch lift? Are most all Nitro shocks the same? If so which ones should I get? I have new 3 inch coils and hell creek 3 inch leafs out back. Thanks
  4. I was afraid of that. I wanted a nice ride with a slightly higher stance, but I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too!
  5. Great website, thanks!!
  6. I bought Cryo-Stop rotors from Tire Rack for my Cherokee and they were excellent quality rotors. I didn't want to buy some Chineese crap like every place sells for $35 or so. The better ones are Bendix or Wagner, but they wanted $86 a piece for them. I didn't want to go as far as Brembo, so I settled on the Cryo-Stops. They are cryogenically cold treated and powder coated to prevent rust on the hats and vanes. I bought Hawk ceramic pads for them. If I would do it again, I would't buy the ceramic pads because they did not bite into the rotors. As we all know the less effort we need to apply to stop the better. I would go with semi-mettalic pads to provide this. That's my experience, to bad I traded the Cherokee in with the new brakes! :headpop:
  7. I have a new set of superlift coils for my comanche that I was going to install, but the springs are actually shorter than the OE ones side by side. They are a larger diameter so they will probably ride much stiffer. Aren't lift springs supposed to be longer to provide lift? If they are just a larger diameter isn't the ride going to suck? I am sure because they are stiffer that the body won't sag as much but it is going to ride like a tank. The number on the box is 126 which matches their website for the lift but is this normal??? Are these springs just a cheap set and another company's longer and progressive to provide a great ride and taller height? Thanks all,
  8. Me too. I heard that a topper from a issuzu will work but I don't know which one. It's hard enough finding a topper that will fit just right, let alone to find which brand etc to buy! Let me know too if you run across more than one.
  9. Thanks for the replies. It sounds like I am getting closer to having the right parts and know how to do it. I appreciate everyone's input because it wouldn't happen without the board.
  10. I live in Michigan, and were some would be jealous of our lakes, I am of your vast landscape of beautiful trees. Great pictures! wish I were there
  11. Thanks for the reply, still not completely convinced. How do I know how many splines the trans has compared to the transfer case so I know they will match up? I am thinking of taking a transfer case out of a truck but I want to know if it will work with a manual trans instead of the auto it's in now. I hope I am not making this to difficult,
  12. I would like to buy a ax-15 4wd trans and transfer case, or trade you for mine. I have a 4wd aw-4 trans and transfer case I would trade for it, or the whole truck for that matter!! Let me know, Midland MI
  13. I have a few questions... I am a little puzzled on what to do now. I have a donar 4wd aw4 on the column comanche, but I don't think I want to go through the hassle of changing my 5 speed ba-10 2wd over to the auto 4wd. Will a 231J 4wd transfer case from a '93 XJ work with a AX-15 4wd manual trans? I have heard a lot about spline counts and output shaft lengths so I want to make certain it will work before collecting parts. What is the difference between 231 transfer cases? What should I do? I would like the easiest way of putting it together, which seems like a ax-15 but with what parts? I don't want to just start buying parts if the driveshafts are different and such. Thanks all!!
  14. The OE rear end was a 3.07 gear and the right rear wheel cylinder leaked all over the brakes and turned the shoes to paste. I was going to replace just the wheel cyl but after finding the shoes in that condition it was a waste of time. The donar I bought had good backer plates, mine were rusted away and the brakes were new and it had the 3.55 gears. My leaf springs were in rough shape and the donar had broken ones so I bought new. Oh, and I found that the bolts I got from Fastenall were fine thread and the nuts coarse thread!! After ruining all four I figured it out last night. Some things just slip our minds. Till Tuesday...
  15. Great Job! You are very lucky that you found the water from under the carpet. Now you have to find the leak. Remove the carpet and spray the cab with a hose until you find the leak, and remember there may be more than one. I wish mine would have been that rust free, it would be on the road by now. Very nice truck,
  16. I am happy with the progress last night. I got the old rear end in the donar Jeep. I unbolted the entire assembly from my Comanche and bolted it in the donar one. The new one with those 3" lift leafs from Hell Creek is installed. My girlfriend came over to help me which I am truely grateful for. I had the rear axle on a set of pipe stands and a cart I made to roll it around on casters. Let me tell you, that was the best idea yet! I just rolled it into my shed to paint everything and back. That is what I am planning for the front axle too. Next is to remove the rest of the drivetrain to convert the column shift auto donar to my 5 speed to a floor shift. Let the fun begin!!!
  17. Did you re-use the shackle bolts and U-bolts? If you bought new ones where did you get them and what size. Thanks. Dana 35 to a Dana 35 swap.
  18. Ok, not much to say about the build over the weekend. I was looking for u-bolts and shackle bolts since Saturday. After calling every auto parts store in Midland TWICE and burning a half a tank of gas I sit without u-bolts. :wall: I finally broke down to have them custom built because no one carried 9/16"x2-5/8x6.5" u-bolts. Sooo the place I took my old one into subs it out. They fax the spec sheet to the builder and they truck them back. I found out who they use and called them 4 hours after I dropped them off. They said they never recieved a fax!!! I called the parts store and they said there was a mis-communication, ya think! I said I should have called them direct myself instead. So I guess I will have my dad pick them up tomorrow since they are closed after I get out of work. I did however get the grade 8 bolts nuts and washers from fastenall today thanks to Pete telling me where to go. Something that seemed so easy cost me the entire weekend off Sat, Sun, Mon in my case. I guess I got my leaves raked up and burnt. Sometimes life changelleges you in ways that direct your talents elsewhere. Have a good one. :waving:
  19. Thanks for all the replies everyone. Tomorrow I will try Fastenall because all good stores are closed on the weekends. I also will grab the right size u-bolts when I am out. I bought some of the wrong size and I tell you what it's nearly impossible to find anyone with 4 in stock. Do they know that's how many are needed for the job?? I guess they are not that common. I hope to get my rear axle installed tomorrow.
  20. Thanks for the reply Pete!!
  21. I have been looking high and low for shackle bolts. I am replacing my rear leafs so I want to buy new ones. They are 1/2 x 4 and 1/2 inches flange bolts. TSC sells 4 and 5 inch bolts but there are only 1 inch of threads on the ends. Are they dealer only??? It's Saturday and all the bolt stores are closed. Thanks!!
  22. Such a nice build. I would like the time you have to dedicate to mine!! Nice job.
  23. Well, I have made some progress after coming back from Florida. I have removed the axles cleaned everything up replaced the pinion seal and the brake shoes. I gave it two coats of primer today and took pictures but when I went to use my camera again it broke. I think I got sand in it from sand blasting somehow? My springs from hell creek arrived when I came back so they will go in soon as I get the axle and brackets painted. Here is a question: My new hell creek springs have 5 leaves in them, my old ones 4. I thought only the metric ton package had 5 springs? I ordered them with a 3 inch lift, standard strength. I don't want this to ride stiff so did they give me the right ones? Thanks!
  24. I don't think large shackles are the answer. If you install longer shackles the pinion angle will change causing vibration. Just my opinion, I haven't tried them, but they are a great idea especially since everyone wants to "level" their truck after a lift, I guess I will wait to see what mine looks like and maybe I will give them a shot! Nice find. :clapping:
