Problem with injector install
Automan2164 replied to duradiesel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What if it got stuck in a valve? If it was holding the exhaust valve open wouldn't it backfire through the exhaust? Or the intake valve for that matter? Was the little blue thing a dust cover? Or a metal part of the injector? I hope it was just a plastic dust cover... If it was the actual metal tip, and it just made a new home in the cylinder, you might gave just ruined your engine. You didn't fish out something you dropped into the engine before starting it!? Where else would it go!? Rob L. -
researching for my lift
Automan2164 replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Realistically, if you are going 6", you are in long arm territory to do it correctly. You WILL NEED both upper and lower adjustable arms AND drop brackets to work with short arms on a 6". Not cheap to lift. Maybe you want to start with a 3" since your admittantly new to the Jeep arena, and should start slow. Have to walk before you run brotha. Rob L. -
4wd conversion question
Automan2164 replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At least 4.10's, if not 4.56's... And they get a whole lot harder to find. You are going to have to find an XJ/MJ with a 2.5L, 5 speed, and 4WD to get 4.10s. Rumored that its automatic counterpart got 4.56's... I have only ever seen one 2.5L Auto MJ, and it was a 2WD. Rob L. -
Peugeot BA-10 clutch fix
Automan2164 replied to bthomps875's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Make sure that the clutch master has not been leaking onto the fusebox at the firewall. Rob L. -
Looks like it got sold and the thread got moved into the secret Moderator CC forum... That's right, I said secret CC forum. You have to know the secret handshake to get in. Rob L. :D

Truck doesn't look that bad in the pics... Looks like a smidgen of rust starting on the Left rear wheel well, and the cab/rockers... What rust belt MJ doesn't? That looks like one of the nicer rust belt trucks I have seen, and its a '92 to boot. D44? Rob L.

If I were building a fuel-wise MJ, I would have to add an option to your layout. Find a MFPI 2.5L XJ, and swap the entire drivetrain in. Bonus if you can do it from a '96 for OBDII abilities. Have the somewhat better mileage of the 4 cyl, the bonus of Multiport, the help of OBDII for troubleshooting, an AX5 (hopefully), the 231, and a stout runner. I had the chance to do that, but the member who's shell I was buying bailed, and I let the '96 XJ go after stealing the axles for my MJ. Rob L.

Maybe if your buddy can't even tell the difference between a 3 and a 5, he might be exaggerating the damage? Maybe a second opinion is in order? I would say that's a 2000 MJ by the pics. Maybe more if it was actually that decent in person. Oh, I did ask him how much he wanted, and it was $3000, and also asked if he had any offers... He said no one made an offer, but he has gotten some calls. He also wasn't interested at all if it could be the last MJ. I asked if he wanted me to call him back with what I found, and he couldn't have been more disinterested. Rob L.

It fits with the rough estimate of production numbers also... It fits right in between DJM's 2-92 (196578) and TerraWombat's 3-92 (215160) I would still consider buying it though... My Elim has had obvious accident repair, and was rustier than snot... I still doled out $1800 for it from a member who only wanted out of it what he had into it. Rob L.

Apparently we might have a false alarm. According to the VIN, 1J7FJ26S8NL197238, it was built on March 22nd, 1992. Sure that 5-92 wasn't a 3-92? Rob L.

Whoops  Had to update that a bit. I sold it to another member, MCF90, after raping and pillaging all the '92 MJ goodies... But on the same note, I have found that the production numbers aren't always sequential... FWIW. Rob L.

Contacted, he's going to get the title for the VIN and call me back. Just to get everyone up to speed here on my '92 MJ tracking: -Only 952 MJ's made from January 1st, 1992. -Few members can claim late build (I can only think of about 5-6). -My '92 Eliminator is April 24th, 1992 -Currently latest build date MJ is a member here, with a May 3rd, 1992 build date. -Rumored end date is May 18th, 1992. Rob L.

Gracias Sir. With enough time I can call a dealer on the West coast and have it back to you tonight. Rob L.

If you can't go back, can we get some contact info? Rob L.

You need to go back and get that VIN. Thats the last month they were made... As of yet, we only know of one truck made in May... You need to get me the VIN so I can lock down a day. Please. If I were you, I would think long and hard on whether or not to pass on this. Might be some work, but you could have once to the last 10 MJ's there. Rob L.

i'd be tempted to save this : fayetteville
Automan2164 replied to shawn's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I want to say there was a new member looking at this awhile ago, like last year... I remember the rancho suspension, and the gray bench in the black interior. I would jump on this thing if it was anywhere near me. Rob L. -
I had a complete one I pretty much just threw out... I, myself... Not a fan. Different strokes for different folks. Just keep your canoe out of my creek. ;) Rob L.

BUILD DATE!!!! WHY DID YOU NOT POST THIS WHEN YOU ANNOUNCED A 1992 MJ PURCHASE!?!?! All other things aside, ;) looks like a clean truck, but it has either had to have had some paint, or had an owner who liked to move badges around... The 4x4's aren't in '92 correct spots, as is the 4.0L HO badge... Welcome to the club of the Elite MJ owners. Rob L.

Cold Air Intake
Automan2164 replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Because it was brought up in the post, and he wanted to know. Apparently you wouldn't be interested in an air intake with his MPG claim? Rob L. -
Dana 30 axle gear swap
Automan2164 replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Tis what I did. Picked up a whole '96 cherokee 2.5 for $400. Ran great. Took what I wanted, and horse traded it to another member for some MJ stuff I wanted. Rob L. -
Rustoleum paint job

:shake: Don't you know how lazy we all are? http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=4898 Took a lot for me to google that, and follow the links... So for those lazy as me, there be the direct link. And, if I do say so myself, nice job man. Always a fan of the copper color, and you can NEVER go wrong with a set of Rubi's. Rob L. -
Dana 30 axle gear swap
Automan2164 replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok. That helps a bit. Should be good to go as long as you have some one who is a savant at setting gears up... Because if they aren't, bad things will result. Rob L.
