They made them for a short period of time. It was a custom order thing. You could only get one on an early build '85, right alongside the longbed chief. Rob L.

Hissing noise at booster inside truck
Automan2164 replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like a joke: "You might be Jim Oshel if you stomp out a rattlesnake with a bare foot." Or "You might be Jim Oshel if you owe your relation a whole vehicle for bailing you out of a european hokey." Only you Jim. I have the geebies just thinking there could be a rattler in one of the Jeeps I'm working on. I'll take my cold weather, as long as you keep the venomous snakes. Rob L. -
Unit bearing source brand do you recommend
Automan2164 replied to sinkrun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Carquest guy came in last week, turns out they just entered a partnership with Raybestos for brakes and chassis components. Carquest has two lines, Red (Economy cheapo), and Blue (house premium). All the CQ blue stuff will now be made by Raybestos. Kinda neat, Raybestos is a good name in my book... The real kicker is that they will have a lifetime warranty, which I found none of when I bought the hubs for the ZJ. Best I could find was a NAPA premium with 5 years, and that was 2-3X that of the others... Just couldn't justify it. Ended up getting some Carquest red's, and tossing them on. 1 Year warranty for $69. Rob L. :dunno: -

problem with led lights on my comanche
Automan2164 replied to 88elimnator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not to be a crotchety old coot, but if you did those "LED replacement bulbs" get rid of them. I've noticed that they do not cast light against the inside of the lens the same, and are barely visible save for a small point that the light up. They are playing with the delay because they don't draw as much as a normal bulb. But please, if its just the bulb upgrade lose them. Rob L. -

Does anyone who tossed their name into the hat have or could get a factory bumper and brackets easily? Seems to be a sticking point that one goes back on. Rob L. -
You do know that that is my website... Right? And I should put a disclaimer on that thing... But here goes anyway: You don't have to wait until 2012 to buy 2012 cars. Usually the next model year comes out Fall (Normally September) the year before. 2012's will start hitting the dealers in late 2011. Now think about that. If they weren't already building 2012's in 2011, how would that be possible? Its not. Car makers usually start making the new model year in about May-June of the year before... That way, when its time to start selling them, they already have a bunch ready to meet the demand. What it all means in MJ land: '85 Production numbers were the number of '86 MJ's actually made in '85. '86 Production numbers are the number of late build '86's, and Early build '87's. And so on and so fourth. That's why the number of '92's built in '92 is so low. There are more than 952 '92 MJ's. But, there were only 952 made from Jan 1st, 1992, to end date. Savvy? Rob

Anyone near Saginaw, MI and willing to lend a hand?

 I catch you eyeballing my black interior? Nah, I want the winch, but not that bad. :D I drove hundreds of miles and spent hundreds of dollars to get that stuff. Anyone who wants the black interior better bring a gun and a prybar to get it out of my cold clammy hands. But I am that way with most of my rare MJ parts. The long and shortbed rollbar's are another example of that. I almost lost a nut (literally) to get the longbed rollbar. However, I might be willing to work something out monetarily, and you should have a reply to your PM shortly. Also, I am finding out that the real "trick" to this hidden winch is the winch itself. Unlike most winches, which pull with a shear load (from the side), these are made to straight pull being mounted with the base parallel to the front crossmember. Other guys who built the kit themselves found out that mounting a standard side pull winch in the hidden winch fashion leads to an untimely demise. Interesting. Rob L. :smart: -
Anyone near Saginaw, MI and willing to lend a hand?

It was pretty simple really. I've seen the install manuals, and a member here has a set of brackets NIB. Its just a set of plates that go where the bumper mounts are, it shifts the bumper out a couple inches, and allows you to strap on a 6,000 Lb Ramsey winch between there. Then they just cut a slot in the stock bumper, and bolt on a hawse fairlead. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/attachme ... page_2.jpg Me too. I can say I was a little apprehensive about posting this, but I know all you guys are a good group, and I am sure whomever helps out will be fine with my cash and my new baby. Rob L. -
Yep, it was an option available to all years. Rob L.

At work, when times get tough, we reach for the hail mary. We keep it in the hidden nook, on reserve. http://www.certifiedlabs.com/certified/ ... a-Free.pdf Very strong stuff, works great. Ask whowey. He got a mouthful of it when we were retrieving a front axle for my ZJ. Rob L.

Pete said he'd be willing to do it if no one else is available, but I'd like that to be a last resort kinda option. His van is a bit shaky at best, and he mentioned something about his tensioner being a bit weird... I'd hate to send him up that way and have the van crap out. He's still a few hours away from Saginaw. Plus, if I had Pete go get it, I'd never see it again. I'll give it another day or two to see if there is anyone closer that catches this thread, then I might have to take one of you generous fellas up on your offers. Rob L. :D -
We have them, but you get so many per the package price Pete pays for the hosting... More emails=More cost. Rob L.

My manual collection can't hold a candle to that of Jpnjim. Maybe I am being a pessimist here, but, couldn't you have made the bench and shelves out of just wood? I'd think it would be a bit stronger with 4x4's instead of plastic. No? Excellent upgrade none the less. Rob L.

Please? In the ever long quest to own every weird factory Comanche part, we have found one of the holy grails. The Hidden Winch. A member here found the truck for sale on the internets, and Neohic noticed the front bumper looked a bit... Odd. So he called on it. And it is one. Guy said that it doesn't work, and that he would sell it off the truck. Ben informed me of this, and said he would keep in contact with the guy to keep him from jacking up the price when I come a calling about the same thing. The problem is that I am 7 hours away from it at the moment, with no sign of being able to get out there. 'Tis where I throw myself on the mercy of the MJ court. Is there anyone near Saginaw who would be interested in at least getting it for me? Its on the truck still, in non-working order. The guy said that if we want it, to come get it, take it off, and put on a stock bumper. I need someone go there, take the hidden winch/all associated parts, and put on a stock bumper/brackets. I would also include the money he wants for everything (of course), and whatever you might want in exchange for a parts(replacement bumper/brackets) and labor. The guy has Sundays off, and Ben has already told him that a friend of his would be the one coming to get it, rather than himself. Once its in a member's hands, then I will worry about how to get it to me. Anyone interested? Rob L.

What do you mean by history? Like previous owners? Rob L.

I wouldn't trust anyone at Jeep who made that site. For a short period of time MJ's were made from '84-'92 on a previous version. Rob L.

I work for a city maintaining the Fleet... And its changeover time. On top of the removal of all the old police equipment, I have to remove a full decal package from headlight to tail light on our squads. I use a heat gun, and a piece of fan blade I cut out of an electric fan to get an edge. I pick up the edge, keep the heat gun a bit ahead of me, and run with it. Sometimes the old adhesive doesn't come off, and I use this to get it off: http://www.idealtruevalue.com/servlet/the-2113/Detail 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. Its strong stuff, but its safe for the paint. As an example, we had a car that was due for auction in September, and it got tagged in our lot around November, the year before. We left it. As it turns out, that was a bad idea. Green spray paint all over white paint. Dry, sunbaked, and solid. I gave the bottle of 3M stuff to a community service guy doing some time with us, and told him to get hot. Even with liberal application, soaking, scrubbing, and LOTS AND LOTS of elbow grease, the stuff was strong enough to help break the spray paint, but NEVER softened up the White. I think we get it at NAPA, and would most likely be able to be ordered at any auto parts stores. Rob L.

I replaced my heater hoses today... With heater hose from the parts store. I imagine it was a bit cheaper than what Lowe's is putting out too... Rob L.
