  1. Saw this on CL: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/1312950793.html Truck looks very familiar, like i've seen it here. But I don't think it was listed for sale in our classifieds... anyone help me out here? Rob L.
  2. Sell the blazer, take the money to get a new 2.5L, or upgrade to a 4.0L. You are going to run into all sorts of problems trying to make the 4.3L work, and the 2.5 and 4.0 are supposed to be under there. I say find a jeep mill, and throw it in. Rob L.
  3. Thanks Brent. CW, yeah, I knew as soon as I looked under the jeep and found the source of the bbq, that'd I'd be looking for the new axle. 8) I think I know what happened though. I have been fighting this driveline vibe for awhile now, and haven't been able to put my finger on what it is. The front d/s was bad, so that got replaced. The vibe was still around, although minimal, and not near as bad. Only showed up around 60 MPH +. I have balanced all the tires, and recently did both front and rear axle bearing sets. The unit bearings seem good, so they stayed on board. But yesterday I was in a little hurry, and hit cruise at 70 MPH, where the vibe comes out. When looking at the axle, it looks like it wallowed out the pinion seal, and then the oil flinger proceeded to throw all of the axles life blood out along the highway, and turn it into toast... Maybe my pinion shaft was bad? Who knows. Hopefully with a new axle, the driveline woes will have gone away. Either that, or I was looking at trading it for an '88 YJ, 4.2L, 5 speed. Its a base model with no PS, but its mint, and nearly rust free. They want $3,900 and the ZJ is worth about that, and also exceptionally clean. I guess we will see what happens. EDIT: For those familiar with the 249 and a fried clutch, is it possible for me to just remove the front shaft and turn it into 2wd for the time being? Rob L. :(
  4. I just like the simplicity of the 231. :dunno: Can't wait to see the inside of the D30 though.... Should be classic. :brows: Rob L.
  5. Yep, they did. But I really don't use the AWD, and would rather not even have the option, and just find a 231. Prolly be cheaper too. Rob L.

  7. Anyone know an easy way to turn a NP249 into a 2WD with some redneck engineering? I just had a 3 hour drive home courtesy of the cursed jeep. My story: GF and I were going to the WI state fair, about 80-90 miles away from where we are, mostly 65 MPH highway. About 30 minutes in, we started to notice this real odd smell. We just kind of laughed it off as being the truck infront of us, and kept going. Once we were about 10 miles from the destination, I noticed the ZJ was smoking. I pulled over, to find one crispy fritter of a D30, all the paint was baked off of it, and smoking like all getout. :headpop: I found the heaven sent wally world, picked up 6 Q's of 140, a 3/8's ratchet, and a fire extinguisher(Thats sucker was getting hot). I hopped a curb to fill it up, and got the plug out. I found nothing but smoke and shavings, and the case was so hot, putting fluid in, was sending it out just as fast out the pinion seal, like running water. :( Not being a glass if half empty person, we were close enough to the fair, and we went. I mean we were there, stranded or not. :dunno: After imbibing some frosty brews , and fufilling my inner glutton  , we got ready to go. I crawled under, topped off the now cool axle, and we headed out. With 90 miles to go, and a "its already FUBAR'd" attitude, we embarked, taking every country road, back stretch, and truckstop parking lot to quench the axle at 35 MPH at a time. We made it home, but not without some luck. SO I am asking for advice here. I need to get rid of this AWD. I think its my biggest problem here. I just did the axle bearings front and rear 3 weeks ago, and have driven just as far with no problems. I am at the end of my darn rope with this. I really don't even know what I am asking for here, but I guess I just needed a place to rant, vent, and possibly ask my fellow IL/WI fellas, if anyone has a D30 sitting around. And/or a 231 that will bolt up to the ZJ 42Re. Pics of when the 140 was coming out like water, the spot I left, and yes, that Diff cover used to have paint on it. It spent an hour or two baking at 70 MPH. But I really think its about time I dump this whole son-of-a and get something without the phenominal NP249. :fs1: Rob L.
  8. One thing the power wagon does not have, a diesel engine. :( Rob L.
  9. :headpop: Tell me about it, I woke up early on Saturday morning when we were there just to go in and see that place. What a load of junk! They wasted an hour of my time... I mean, honestly, what were you expecting? :D You just get to see the crap at its source of origin. :rotfl2: Rob L.
  10. How much longer is the cable? If you can put the extra length somewhere it will work, it will act the same as a shorter cable. I.E.: 2" of movement on a short cable, will be 2" of movement on a longcable... The housing will just be longer... Rob L.
  11. Where is it located? Hard to tell, but it looks like those might be Missouri plates? I don't know what I would do with it, but if the owner is willing to sell it I may have to consider finding time for a road trip. Willy I think its an illinois plate with the blue/white fade: Rob L. It looks like it is not just blue, but blue with a little green. And considering it is located in MO I'm going to stick with my guess. :D  Willy :dunno: The bottom looks more blue than green to me, and the letters look red... appears to be the lincoln shadow in the middle too. I am going with IL. :smart: Rob L.
  12. When you say backwards, do they peg down or just seem off? Rob L.
  13. They make 4 door rangers? Mexican 4 door ranger: http://www.ford.com.mx/vehicles/gallery ... ection=EXT There are tons of stuff made in mexico not seen in the us. Like the Dodge Ramcharger... They continued making them in MX. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAyAI8DlxVM http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/MattInTheH ... arger.html Rob L.
  14. Did you pull the cluster from the donor vehicle yourself? I know the gas guage can read backwards if the cluster isn't correct for the truck... Also, have you replaced the oil and temp switches with sensors? Rob L.

  17. Hey, why must people call it a Hitler mustache? Charlie Chaplin and Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy) had them before they even knew about Hitler. No reason to believe it wasn't around before but now it has a bad name. I prefer to go with the comical slant. I just call it that because while both comedians had the same style upper-lip caterpillar, some people might not get the reference as well, so I used hitler. Rob L.
  18. In the pics with the beard, you are missing one thing. The El Camino, or the windowless cargo van. :hmm: I would have left a hitler mustache, and told her "now what are you going to do?" :brows: Rob L.

Found this pics on the web just bored... looks cool, and the guy with the ranger must have some good work in moving the cab back.. Check it out... http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/s ... hp?t=28539 Rob L.
  20. Checked your U-joints lately? Also rear gears? Rob L.
  21. At least there are tumbleweeds when you go in there. I just get a midget that keeps punching me in the groin. Rob L.
  22. Sounds like you don't have enough fuel pressure if its just dribbling out... It sounds like its getting there, but not with sufficient force... Could you hear the pump running while cycling? It will sound like a winshield washer pump under the bed. Rob L.
  23. Did you cycle the key before pressing the valve to build pressure? (if any) Rob L.
  24. Junk yard... And although Dodge Dakota lenses look similar, definately not interchangable. Sometimes they pop up on ebay time and again NOS, but its rare, and you won't find them in a pair. Junk yards don't really know how rare they are, so they just charge a standard fee. On ebay on the other hand, they can fetch a pretty penny if the market has been dry. car-part.com Rob L.
  25. Yep, they are around. The police package XJ needed the column shift to leave room open between the seats for radios, equipment and whatnot. You can find them with buckets, and a bare trans hump...I thought I had a picture of a column shift XJ(couldn't find it), but you know about my fetish for police and fire jeeps, so I found this: Rob L. :brows:
