  1. thats a good idea. I would even help you wade. I would happily give you my '90 if you want some sort of beater, but please don't part that thing out for the engine. Thats a big item you have there. Especially since the build date is in the last month mjs were made, its an eliminator, its a 4x4, its an eliminator, and its an eliminator. I would do some research, find the original owner, and contact jeep. Rob L.
  2. I would keep that baby all original. I would also write some dudes at jeep asking about serial numbers and when the last one was produced. Rob L.
  3. MJ version of this. Rob L.
  4. How would that work? Enlighten me  Well, take an MJ bed with rotted wells, and a clean back end. Chop off the last 2 feet. Make a back rest out of plywood. Get cushions/upholstry, put them in the bed section. For extra touch, get compact house bulbs, and insert into taillights. I can't find a pic of one for the life of me. Rob L.
  5. I'm confused, whats getting swapped where? Rob L.
  6. Speaking of car-decor, I want to make a "comanche bed couch" something awful. Rob L.
  7. IF YOU EVER SELL IT, Call me first. That is the last month they were ever made. The lines get changed in may (5). That very well could have been one of the last MJ's ever made. You lucky SOB. Dana 44 too i take it with that horseshoe around your neck? Rob L.
  8. I knew that was too close to you and pat to last. I just emailed the guy. I was going to buy that thing. Hey what did you get him down to if you don't mind me asking? I know he wanted $1350. Oh, and dana 44? Nice score man, hey whats the build date on the door jamb? Rob L.
  9. I found a 5.9L ZJ at a dealer about 50 miles away. I am going to try for it. It has 100K on it, and they are asking $4,900. I am going to clean up my ZJ, air out the axle lube smell on the inside, and see what they can do. Insurance would only be $20 or so more a month... and I get something like this:  Rob L.
  10. He has to complete the wall mount front clip I'm betting... Lol. Rob L.
  11. I think that when you heave-ho'ed the bed, you free'd up a whole bunch of frame and recovery points. I'd just work on some front ones. Rob L.
  12. Nice! Thanks a ton man! Saved me some research. Was this available in all years of ZJ's? Rob L.
  13. Think I have made the decision to keep it and swap axles. I am going to do some more research on available ratio's though... I would like to find some bolt in axles with better than 3.55 gears. Then, since I have the axles out I might as well put some 2" spacers on it, and use the chance of re-gearing to run some 31's. I think I fubared something when I did the bearing sets. The rear axle is generating a lot of heat like the front. I think I crushed the sleeve too far and have too much pinion pre-load. I'm just going to swap 'em out. Rob L.
  14. Dibs on fender-sides, if in good shape. I'm sure there is something else I am forgetting also. Rob L.
  15. whowey was already trying to get me to buy a whole ZJ for what I needed, and said, he be interested in the seats... I need another vehicle like I need another hole in my head. :( Rob L.
  16. Meh. I want to spend money on the MJ not the ZJ! Basics to keep this thing on the road. Rob L.
  17. I'm either in the market for axles, or a 4x4 4.7L Manual Dakota/Ram or a 5.9 ZJ... Any axle I put in I want to keep the CV's. I have heard if you put the u-jointers on the np249 you'll feel 'em everytime you turn... :ack: Rob L.
  18. I also forgot... Theyre will be a TON of new YJ bodies at the yards because of cash for clunkers... Might be just the thing to find a nice tub for the CJ7. Rob L.
  19. Thats got a lot of histry from the sound of it. If it were mine, I would restore it, and add a mild 3" or so lift. I don't think I would wheel something like that. Did you make any promises to the original owner? Rob L.
  20. When I first bought my MJ, way back in the day, I rode around for a good 6 months without light. I stopped at a jeep guys house to pick up a roll bar and grill guard, when I saw the light. He peered in, pulled the light, and within 5 minutes of a little sanding and cleaning with some emery cloth, had a well-lit cab. Was like a new baby. I second the clean/scratch up the contacts. Rob L.
  21. Finally got the chance to get underneath it. Looks like the carrier and such would still be save-able, but with a local junkyard charging $85 an axle, it'd be cheaper to just replace the axle. I Just replaced the pinion seal to keep it on the road, and allow some time to search. It looks like there were no-external causes that did this... I didn't see any obvious mechanical failures... the pattern is off, but I am assuming due to the lack of fluid/wear there of. So I am inclined to think the only reason this happened was that the pinion seal failed, and set it on a course for self-destruct. (Eagle: I knew a pinion seal will make the fluid piss out, I just meant that I think the pinion is the SOURCE of what happened.) Did my research(thanks for the link dunl), and I think I'll keep the NP249 for the time being... Also looked around nagca.com... Contemplating looking for a 98 5.9L ZJ to replace mine :brows: . IF the price is right. Its drive-able the way it is right now, just a bit noisy :ack: . The front r and p are pretty checked and scored up, bearings seem suprisingly fine. I also decided to check the pattern on the rear, since I was under it, and removing the front cover anyway. Rear pattern looked ok. I took some pics, tell me what y'all think. Front Damage: Front tooth pattern, in current damaged state: Rear Tooth pattern: Rob L.
  22. Well tomorrow is the day. I am pulling it into the shop, and pulling the cover. :brows: I nursed it to and from work today, and put some of this super-gooey gear lube (called gear-up, by certified labs) in hope if would stop any more damage. The guys I work with in the shop used to race in the local circuits, and seem to be pretty sure that with the small howl its making, with no grumbles, the axle assy might still be save-able. They have seen some diffs take a beating. Upon a quick visual inspection, it looks like I might have had a pinion seal failure, and thats what caused the loss of fluid. :fs1: All bets are off, I find out tomorrow. Wish me luck! :D Rob L.
  23. I think thats just an inspection date of the interior panel. The "true" birthday is the date of manufacture on your door sticker. Should show a month and year of when it rolled off of the line. Rob L.
  24. I raise you an old photo pete.... Rob L.
  25. Hmm. Wonder why he didn't post it here first. :hmm: Rob L.
