    Poor MJ.

Ran across this on my MJ searchings... At least the current owner knows hillbilly engineering when he sees it. http://www.marketmyauto.com/search08/cl ... id=4245620 "1987 Jeep Comanche 4x4 auto long bed clean California body. Runs great Newer transmission. $1000 FIRM The suspension will need to be redone as the previous owner hacked a lift together. 99.9% rust free. VERY VERY Clean Taylor - Cell- 574-220-1287 More pictures can be seen at: http://s161.photobucket.com/albums/t240 ... /Comanche/" From the Photo bucket acct:  Overall, a nice clean truck if you look at the pics, but needs a rescue from an inbred death... This guy rescued it, it just needs a good doc... But once I saw that lift, I had to share it. :rotf: Rob L. :D
  2. I think you must have misunderstood the gas mileage description Jeepco. It converts to 22.62 miles per US gallon for my V6 compared to 15.47 miles per US gallon in my 4.0L. That's a considerable difference in the V6's favour and definitely ain't crappy mileage in my humble opinion! Anyone know what mpg the 2.5L gets for even better comparison? I don't understand this either, if the 2.5L motor gave as much power as the V6 what was the incentive for anyone to buy the V6 over the 2.5L? They were sold at the same time weren't they? '86 - '87? Pat, the mileage in Metric is weird. Instead of Gallons used per Mile, its How many liters are used per 100 Kilometers. So a lower number is better. Luke, I think the incentive was really just the V6 is better than I4 mentality, as was the torque. The V6 has the L4 on torque, and thats more of a "Seat of the pants" measurable thing. I bet the @$$-dynomometer preferred the V6 back in the day. Rob L.
  3. Went to the mugbogs in Genoa City, WI today, hoping to see a few MJ's. I was not disappointed. There ended up being 4 that came to run, but one was under the minimum tire size (33"). 88MJXLS also tagged along, bringing the '88 that I used to own which is now his DD. The 2 MJ's I knew that ran were from a lurker on the group, IRISH. He's starting his own offroad shop, and just happens to have a couple MJ's for shop trucks. One is a '92 that was a 2.5L AX5 2WD, but is now a 4.0L AW4 4x4 with fullsize axles. The other is an '86 they got awhile ago that has the stock drivetrain 2.8L, auto, D30/35. He had told me the plans for the '86... They hate the 2.8L, and are taking it out anyway, so they planned on running a 600 HP shot of nitrous to help with the removal of the engine. :brows: So I just had to go. It was kind of crappy, once the first few trucks went in the 33" class there was this huge berm that was hard to get through. Here are some pics and vids:(All taken with my cell phone. 8) ) The '86 '86 Go BOOM! video Turns out that they were able to drive it away later on. His co-owner was driving, and let off on the gas and nitrous at the same time, and blew it out through the carb. The '92 '92 Run video There was also 2 guys whom had never heard of the Comanche Club that were there, they both got business cards and magnets... :D They seemed pretty juiced to know that there was a club that loved the little trucks. Here are their trucks: Only the guy in the short bed got to run though. Video And my favorite, a 401 powered CJ that just tore it up! Good day, and hopefully we get a few new guys stopping by... POST UP IF YOU STOP BY FELLAS!!! Rob L.
  4. Its built around Scott, his son, who is about 6'2"... But a skinny 6'2". :D Rob L.
  5. I just went to a mudbog where a CC member put a 600 HP shot of nitrous into it, and it drove away. Video is uploading now... :brows: Rob L.
  6. Welcome! Beer is in the fridge, pull up a chair... Rob L.
  7. That's been in the comanche club family for a long time. First, it belonged to "Girs86MJ" then I sold my '91 Eliminator to him, so he traded it to "Beaterjeep" who used it as a driver, who lost space at his storage unit, and sold it to its current owner, "JeepdocDave". Its a solid truck for sure. Just has the crap V6. Dave!?! Why didn't you post this here first!? Rob L.
  8. Shooting for noon. Kitch is coming (88MJXLS), I'll be there, and Shawn will be too. Rob L.
  9. Earlier in the week, Peter (WFC) was looking for someone with a stock height MJ to come by and perch next to the landspeed record truck for grins. The only MJ that I have thats street worthy was the Unicorn (the Hunter green Eliminator), so I took that. It sits a bit lower than standard MJ's, but I don't think its ever been played with. Close enough. We also measured how much the LSR truck was dropped compared to a stock truck. Turns out its about an 8 inch difference when we measured here and there. He has about 2-3 inches from the ground to the bottom of the LCA mount on the frame. I saw the Rusty's offroad sticker on the back, and asked him what he trusted with them on a truck that goes crazy fast, looks like he's running the upper and lower controls arms from Rusty's... They look pretty beefy though. He also showed me the counterweight that they are making up, and are going to fill with concrete. He said its going to be about 450 Lbs, and will go into the bed just forward of the rear axle. While I still haven't heard it run... :fs1: I got to sit in it, and so did the girlfriend. Lets just say that the cockpit of that thing is not for the claustrophobic. I had to squeeze in sideways, and shimmy into the seat. Couldn't even imagine being in it and having to make a quick exit. Peter said they are shooting for 180 MPH this time around, and are leaving next Wednesday for the flats. We discussed aerodynamics, and possibly removing the flares for speed. He mentioned about the Lakeview Cruiser (350 Powered Landspeed MJ) lost the cab vents on a run, so he glued his on, and will put something on the top of the cab to keep the windshield in at 180+... :D Here are a few of the pics I took, enjoy. Going to have to thank the GF for getting this one with my eyes shut. :shake: I have always thought my '92 Eliminator sits a bit low to begin with, here is a pic of it next to the Metric ton: I wish someone with a lifted MJ could have been there to really make that LSR truck look goofy. :rotf: Rob L.
  10. Got it all tucked in next to the other MJ's. :D Rob L.
  11. No explanation required: Rob L. :rotf:
  12. Nothing is impossible with the right skills. Rob L.
  13. Its been done. Someone had a 5.2 ZJ'ed MJ for sale on CL awhile back... Rob L.
  14. Its been 80-90 up here with 80-90 humidity... Like working in sweat stew. I knew we were going to pay for that incredible summer last year. Just think of it this way Don, the hotter it is, the better the High life tastes coming out of the fridge. Rob L.
  15. Was listed as a package, but I only needed the one. :D Rob L.
  16. Thanks fellas. Finally got a chance to go through the new purchase, and this caught my eye: It appears to be stock, but in all the MJ's I have torn through, I have never seen one... Maybe someone else here has? Its a map light / visor clip / storage deal. Its matched to the factory interior color, has two map lights, and has a little trap door (the thing that looks like a compass display pushes into a compartment). Just curious if anyone else could fill me in. Rob L. :D

    Yowza!

Today my boss strolled in with a little gift from his enclosed trailer... I guess he had lent it out to a friend to move... They stopped at a gas station to fill up, and just happened to catch that little guy. Amazing eye too, because its a triple axle enclosed, and the bulge was on the inside. Also found it funny, I took all these pictures after my boss had pulled the valve stem... 8) The tire itself is flat, but the bubble was still rock hard. Can't say I wasn't a little afraid when I was moving it around for pictures. I was waiting for it to burst in my hands. Just thought I'd share. :D Rob L.
  18. ...Own more than one. ...At one point could measure your fleet in "halves". ...Have more open titles floating around than registered vehicles. ...Have a DD, that isn't an MJ. ...Could find one in a where's waldo book faster than you could find waldo. ...Only speak in "Jeep Code" and have to explain to others what an MJ/XJ/ZJ is. ...Get excited as a school girl when you find another. ...Have to look back at it everytime you park it. ...Everyone you know calls you nuts. ...You carry Comanche Club cards everywhere. ...Carry pictures of your MJ, be it wallet, cell, or other. ...Can actually buy "Fleet insurance" because of the sheer number of cars owned. ...Can tell the year +/- 1 year from 20 feet. ...Can Decode a VIN in your head just by looking at it. ...Catalog parts with a paint marker because there are just so many. ...Cataloged using a code, to make it a pain for anyone else to cash in on your wealth if they don't know what a driveshaft marked 92MJ40LAX15231D35 goes to. :D Rob L.
  19. Sunday are the mudbogs, I'm going, as well as a lurker member, Irish. He has a '92 Swb on 35's he's taking, and an '86 on 33's with the 2.8L, he's running 3-4 setups for nitrous on... Estimated to be a 600 HP shot. They want to blow the engine, or make a full pass. He's happy with either, since the 2.8L has to go anyway. He's got a 4x4 shop he's trying to get off the ground, and is using this as a free chance at some exposure. Should be a good time. Beer, sweet corn, all the normal fair food type stuff. A few years ago it was $20ish to enter your truck into the mud bogs... It goes by tire size, and I think there is a prize for top finishers. They line you up, hook a cable up, and let you go ballz out, then yank you back out... Good for some fun and entertainment. People bring some sick rigs. I believe Pat is coming, Wade, you in? Anyone else? Rob L.
  20. Well, I can finally break the silence, as its at my house, and officially mine. I recently sold the Rev, and my half Metric Ton to JeepcoMJ, with my sights set on a rust free MJ. I was going to H.O. the Rev ('90 LWB) but it had soft rockers, no floor, and a crap bed from rust :ack: . The prospect of a truck that was already minus a trans, engine ready to pull, a Factory Metric Ton, and NO RUST got me excited. I had found it on CL as a package deal, with another MJ for $2200, but had to have this one. Quick stats: 1987 Jeep Comanche Base 4.0L / AW4 / D44 Bad Engine, Trans removed NO RUST!!!! Originally delivered to West Los Angeles!!! Has a ladder rack made at a welding shop in CA Socal Surf shop sticker Contacted the seller, and turns out he's a member, XXLMJ. This was supposed to be his rust free shell to put the drivetrain from his other MJ into, but is playing with a Duster, and baby on the way (actually inducing labor tomorrow), so projects need to clear out. He doesn't know much about it, he didn't even know that it was a California truck. He bought it from a farmer, who bought it from a farmer who used it to haul watermelons in Michigan. Once I told him the dealer info, he pointed out how he always thought it was weird that the rack was welded in Cali. Now the best part... Upon inspection, no midwest rust. Not even the floors are rotted. Just a little bit of surface rust on the floors! The bedsides aren't crunchy over the wheelwells, the cab corners are solid, and overall very clean. The only thing with midwest rust is the tailgate. That's fine though, we know how how easy those come off. 8) I picked it up for $500 from Dave, and got it home with the tow dolly from Pat, and the enlistment of a buddy who volunteered his F150. Spent the day driving from IL/WI border to Darn near Michigan in Indiana. Stopped at a pizza buffet, a Bass Pro shop (HUGE!), and spent it with the GF, My buddy, and his fiance. And, since I nickname all of my trucks, let me introduce... The Melon Farmer. :D Dave and I after loading it up: (I am on the right, I think my GF snapped the pic while I was making a face :rotfl2: ) At the gas station getting into town: All in all it was a great trip, and I am happy to have it home. Just happened to be my birthday today, so it was a good present to myself. ;) Plans are to do the AX15 HO conversion I had waiting for the Rev, 4x4 Conversion, 4.5 Hell Creek lift, 31/32" tires, and 4.10's. Make it a utility truck that can still have fun when needed. I am just all sorts of excited to be not having to fight rust right off the bat. You southern guys have no idea how lucky you are. I can't wait to start putting it together. Rob L.
  21. Replace the starter. If its as new as you say it is, it should have a warranty. Rob L.
  22. :needpics: COME ON MAN!!!! FIND A CAMERA!!!! Rob L.
  23. Peter I have that '92 Eliminator I could swing by, and I am close. Should have just called me! Rob L.
  24. Can't say I can help much, I have had one of everything with the amount of MJ's I tear through. Rob L. :D
