  1. Replaced the sway bar links. One was broken, I figured I might as well replace the other before it breaks.
  2. Yes, Diamler (Same company that ownes Frieghtliner and Mercedes) was the previous owner of Chrysler, Chrysler still uses a lot from them (parts and designs).
  3. Are 4WD ZJ Grand Cherokee ball joints the same as 2WD 1989 Comanche ball joints? I had purchased some for my old ZJ, but ended up selling it and it looks like the Comanche could use them. I've been checking part numbers online and almost all of the ball joints are listed for all years of Grand Cherokees and Comanches, except for Moog which has different part numbers for 1990+ years. Are the 1990+ ball joints different?
  4. I'm in the process of replacing the alternator main fusible link with a Circuit Breaker and spotted this. Does anyone know what it's for, and the amperage fuse I should replace it with? My electric cooling fan wasn't hooked up, and the wires going to it were melted, so I'm thinking it's for that? Image Not Found
  5. Yup, that bolt is tapered, so it presses itself in when you tighten the nut on it. I had to completely drill the bolt out, spray it with PB blaster, and heat it with a torch before it would budge. Good luck!
  6. Went to the store to get some parts for the Comanche. My WJ is on the left. 8)
  7. I upgraded the positive wire from my alternator to 4 Gauge, the old wire had a fusible link on it. What is the purpose of the fusible link, and is it still needed with the 4 gauge wire I upgraded to? I also plan on installing a higher output alternator in the future, does that affect anything?
  8. Replaced some of the wiring. What were they thinking using that little 8 gauge wire for the alternator?
  9. Does anyone know the size of the bolt that mounts the bottom of the power steering pump to the bracket? While underneath the Comanche today I noticed that bolt was missing. Also, is the adjusting bolt supposed to sit flush against the bracket, or stick out? It's sticking out about a 1/4" but it did not seem loose.
  10. Put the interior back in. Also tightened down the valve cover bolts a few turns by hand. I guess that's why it was leaking. :rotfl2:
  11. Trucks! Is building an 88 "Cheap Cherokee" right now. Might want to check it out if you haven't seen it.
  12. Got the seat out and the carpet out. I also cleaned up the carpet, looks great now. Tomorrow I plan on applying the rust eating paint. :)
  13. I took out the carpet today, and found some rust on the passenger side. I have a few questions. Do I need to put that black tarpaper thing back down? And I just vacuum it up, and put down some rust converting paint right? Image Not Found
  14. Change the D35 gear oil, installed new rear shocks, greased the drive shaft U-joints, and noticed my rear brake flex hose is cracked. 1995 Dakota right?
  15. The full cluster I pulled from an '89 Cherokee had the posts for the indicator. It had a blue casing, not the white casing like that picture.
  16. All of the gauge clusters have the mount for the shift indicator. When I upgraded to the full cluster, I just cut out a hole in the tach and mounted the shift indicator from my old cluster. A hole needs to be drilled in the bottom of the cluster housing for the indicator's cord to run through. But it was all fairly easy to do.
  17. Fiat is not buying Jeep. Fiat and Chrysler have a partnership. The main reason for the partnership is just for Fiat to get some of their cars over here. Cerberus has stated many times that they will not split up the company. If someone were to buy Jeep, they would have to buy chrysler and Dodge too. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/20/brea ... rtnership/
  18. The Grand Cherokee section on http://jeepforum.com is also very popular.
  19. I fired up the Comanche today and took it around the block. Probably won't get insurance on it for another couple weeks so it's been garage bound since I bought it. I have a quick question though, the front orange lights (below the headlights) are not evenly light. This is the strange part though, the drivers side is dim when just the lights are on. But the passenger side is dim (and drivers side is the normal brightness) when the flashers, or blinker is on. What would cause that?
  20. I noticed today that the rod connecting the rear proportioning valve arm to the axle is missing. So, the arm is just hanging straight down. What should I do about that?
  21. I traced the wires up into the engine bay. Looks like an aftermarket cruise control system. It's strange because I also have the factory cruise control switch on the pedal (But no vacuum line connected to it). Does this mean I don't need the cruise control speedometer cable?
  22. This box is zipped tied to the steering wheel brace, has a ton of wires coming out of it, two of the wires are crimped on to the brake light wires.
  23. Nice copy and paste from WJ Jeeps.com :nanner:
  24. Got the oil pressure and coolant temp sensors in for the new gauge cluster. Changed the oil and filter. (previous owner let it go way too long) I also continued the Dual Diaphragm Booster upgrade. I put my modified pedal assembly in, and made the new brake lines from the Master Cylinder to the Proportioning Valve.
  25. I know some of the guys from Iron Rock, they are great guys down there. (They are about 20 minutes from my house) I talked to them about a lift kit and they said they could whip something up for the rear of the Comanche (Their XJ lifts will work on the front). If they needed any info they could look at my comanche too. So give them a call, I'm sure they'll help you out. Talk to Derrick if he's around.
