I searched on here, then went to the truck to find the identifying code...no luck. Where do I need to look, and what are the possible number/letter combos for an 88 Pioneer? I found this: Is there any identifying mark that notes that shows which number/letter combo on the plate is the code, or should I just look until I see one of the codes (above) somewhere on the plate? Firewall Plate: Radiator Shroud: Other tag on the firewall:

What stores carry u-bolts?

I cannot seem to find that on the TSC website...any suggestions? -
Why? I finance every vehicle (okay, not the MJ) that I can, because my credit union will do 3.9%. The drawback is that I have to carry full coverage, but the benefit is that I have more cash in the bank each month in the event that there is an unexpected bill. At the end of the month, I use leftover cash to pay off things with higher interest- credit cards, extra mortgage payment, etc. When I got laid off unexpectedly a few years ago, I was glad to only have to lay out $92/month on a car payment until I got back on my feet. The cash that I had saved (and left in savings) was what paid the mortgage while I was laid off. I am certainly not saying that it is a bad thing to pay cash for vehicles, but there are reasons to finance them as well.

Replacement stock leaf springs
phenryiv1 replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Get a set of Cherokee leaves and cut the eyes off the main leaves. Use those for your AALs. The Cherokee springs have less arch, so using the XJ main leaf will add capacity without adding a lot of lift. In reference to this suggestion, I have a set of XJ packs just sitting behind my house, and the eyes are already cut off. I have them listed up for sale on here. PM me for details/pics. -

Every time I see a set of 31"s, I wish that I had them and not 30"s...

Like I said above, after removing the hockey sticks, the actual color looks pretty good, and I also like the cleaner look of the truck with the stripes removed. That is making me rethink the idea of a color change. As much as I think it would be cool to have the truck yellow, it would be a LOT easier to leave it red, whether the stock red or Chili Pepper red. Particularly since I don't care about show-quality outcome, I could get away with blending the jambs and between the bed and cab, so long as I stick with a dark red color like CPR. If I went yellow, I was going to pre-spray the inner door skin, the jambs, the "sides"/top/bottom of the doors, and the lip of the fender and header panel in yellow. I was also going to shoot the underside of the hood in black. I figured that that prep work- with some good sanding- would be enough to give me a passable finish.

Grabbed a set of factory tow hooks and brackets off of an UC XJ at the local JY. Also grabbed a Rusty's AirTube knock-off on eBay, but it lacks the proper fittings for the small vaccuum lines. That is what I get for trying to save a few bucks. I think that I have more parts on the "to-do" list than I have bolted onto the truck.

Is there a How-to for adding headrests to a bench seat? I found an MJ with a headrest bench at the pick and pull, but it is the wrong color. I don't want to hack it up to get the headrests out, because I don't know for sure that I could get my non-headrest cover over the frame of the seat with the headrests. I considered just adding buckets, but I like the bench, in case I need to haul 3 people. Okay, strike that...I don't LIKE the bench, but I see the utility...

So roughly 31"s on a 4.5" lift?
-
What lift is under the truck right now? And what size tires? I scanned through all 10 pages, but I was a lazy reader.

I am glad that those tilt mechanisms worked so well. Sorry about the trim being the wrong color. I went back to the yard and they did not have the darker side peices. The seats look great, though. Had I known that you were using ZJ seats, I would have offered to pull the covers and/or pads off of that agate interior on the 97. You could have fitted them over your existing 97+ frames.

Where are you putting the jack when you say that they don't decompress? Are yuo putting it on the frame, or on the axle? -
HO valve cover on a Renix 4.0 UPDATE
phenryiv1 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not to sound smart (that is not my intention), but all that you need is a 97+ valve cover (including all of the associated hoses and fittings that you can grab), the bolts that hold the VC to the head, and a new permatex (or other reusable) valve cover gasket. If you follow this thread from the beginning, you can see that all that you have to do is disconnect the hoses, pull the stock VC, clean off the mating surface, replace the gasket, replace the VC, then reconnect the hoses. I would recommend that you also clean the airbox or take this opportunity to switch to an aftermarket air tube. Some of the hoses on the 97+ VC are larger than those on earlier models, which is why you need to grab the nipple fittings (like the one that I reference at the top of this page). -
Car is a bone-stock 2.5i (non-turbo). I wanted a baseline before I do any mods. Plans are for upgraded sways, stiffer springs, and possibly better struts. Right now, I am still under warranty, so I don't want to do too much for another 6K... Plus, mod money is going into the truck for now. After that, I will either buy a dedicated autoX car (another E36) or put more $$ into the SUbie.

So I am considering adding the XJ main leaf first, then seeing where it settles in. If I want more, then I can add the shackle lift later. I hate posting eBay links, btu I want to be sure that I am watching the correct shackles. I am looking for the 88+ 1500 Chevy/GMC drop shackles, correct? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-INCH-L ... 240%3A1318
