So there are no long any Draw Tight or Tite (orginal name) class 3 hitches? Seriously? I bought mine from Uhaul about 8 years ago in TX for 129.00. Mounts to the factory bumper and basiclly forces you to keep the factory bumper. So custom tube might be a choice but you might as well forget Fey bumpers. The problem with Fey is and with any direct mount ball is you can not have much of a lift kit on your truck. The advantahe of a reciever hitch is you can get up to about a 9" drop ball (Harbor Freight). My 88 Comanche owners manual states that you should not pull a trailer if you have a manual trans. I do, but don't go too big as it will wag the truck and at 60 mph on the highway it's can get pretty exciting and it will sure make you wish you have rear disc brakes too.

Bearing in ba10 making noise
Sugarfoot replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How easy is the throw out bearing to replace with the BA10 4x4 4,0 set up? Can I get the trans back enough and just pull it back up? Is there a procedure write up on this replacement? -
91 AX15 into an 88 NEED INFO ASAP!
Sugarfoot replied to Sugarfoot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah Pete found that out, can't win them all, but I felt I got a great deal out of it and I just will have to find one ASAP on Car-part.com. I do have a reprieve on getting back to Ohio. FEMA is out of money either on Monday or Tuesday, so they can't pay the bills and my company has us on hold till notified. I got to say I lucked out and gained a few extra days and the best thing is I am at home too. I have been working NFIP flood work for FEMA on the Missouri for two months and it's my first chance to be home. Damn it's good to be home. As for the truck: I got a 92 AX15 trans <170K external slave bell housing shifter Clutch (about half life) throw out bearing flywheel mount for AC (a bolt had stripped years ago) open system radiator and recovery tank 75.00..... Rid of the Peugeot BA10 trans after 246,000 miles (and 1 rebuild) PRICELESS And made a fellow jeep owner a friend. -
91 AX15 into an 88 NEED INFO ASAP!
Sugarfoot replied to Sugarfoot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just spoke with seller on Trans. Some miscommunication has occurred. Revised discrimination 92XJ Trans is ax 15 with shifter, external slave, bell housing with cross member and mount he is throwing in. Has XJ drive shaft but I will measure when I get there for length. Anything else I will need other than drive shaft while I'm out? I'll grab as many extra bolts that I can. -
91 AX15 into an 88 NEED INFO ASAP!
Sugarfoot replied to Sugarfoot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Pete at least i know what I'm looking for in the drive shaft change and it is the easiest one to find the AW4 2x4 with D35 are a dime a dozen down here. The 4x4 are hard to come by down here. automatic's with 4.0 2x4 are soccer moms cars a plenty. So being a 91 AX 15 trans I should not need the CJ bearing correct? My cross member should work with some creative boring. I need a trans mount which like the drive shaft should be plentiful. Shifter is the remaining issue. AX 15 comes with bell housing, clutch, slave and everything else after fresh separation from 4.0. I thought the clutches were the same? In additional thought is the master line to the AX 15? but can that not be manufactured on site? Having redone all my brake lines years ago I still have the bending tools necessary to do so. Are there any changes in the AX15 shifter from 90-92 though say 96? Pete I appreciate the info and quick response. I have also read some other recent threads. As for the future I would like to pick up an later AX15 bell housing with the external slave. -

I also need to know about the cross member. Can I drill or adapt Peugeot cross member? If not what years will work? -
I have a line on an AX15 to replace the 88 Peugeot in Sugarfoot. Problem is it is not exactly what i want but cost prohibits the perfect world. But here's the deal it is a 91 AX15 2x4. the Peugeot is dead in the driveway. Trucks needs to run regardless. AX15 comes without shifter. So what am I looking at to make this change? Since I am an ex Peugeot is there an change in the drive shaft or length from the 4x4 I was to AX 15 2x4? What years can I pull a shifter from? The NP231 is gonna get parked in the garage for awhile so no interest is asked to make the shaft swap. I have only a couple days at home before i have to get back to where i was. So time is of essence here. I need all info ASAP. It's late Sunday in TX I have to be back in Ohio on Tuesday. Has to be able to pull small live in trailer to next site. Thanks.

I have a friend who knows nothing of his 91 XJ. It's has rear end problems and has offer the Xj to me for parts if I can use it. It is a 91 XJ with the 5sp and 4x4 set up. Since it is about 100 miles from me I can not identify the trans from his pic's, but I am assuming it is an AX15 with matching 231. Am I safe here? Anyone able to give me some advice on if this would be a good donor trans so I can get rid of the puejot. I was told the clutch will fit both but any info on or recommendation on a "new" clutch and brand for the price? I have no problem moving up to a better clutch if need be same is true for the slave. . All input appreciated. Needed ASAP Thanks, James and Sugarfoot , Denton TX 88 MJ Red Pioneer 4.0 4x4.

Hello Jeff, Merry Christmas. Yeah, I should get on here a little more often. Me and Sugarfoot we still get on down the trail. We have not worked a disaster in a while though. No real hurricanes in a couple of years now. I'm being kind to her. She likes her stable mate. A 91 Infiniti M30 convertible. Best 1200.00 car I ever bought. 3 years ago I bought it, jumped in and drove coast to coast and border to border about 90% with the top down. Runs like a top and the best steal out there. 15,000 made over 3 years. It doesn't have to work so hard to get to 80 MPH either. Did I mention the gas mileage?

So this write up and pics never got posted? Has anyone else done this. I would like to see some final pic's. Also looking for some other ideas but they have to be chrome!

In a few months your going to see a lot of OEM dealership parts on Ebay. So save your money and stock up when they are cheap cause sooner or later we're only going to have 3rd party manufactures. Which is fine if your totally into building off road. But for some of us that prefer to keep our trucks stock than 3rd party parts are the last thing I want. I'm into the long term investment and return. Classic and antiques cars have been giving an 8 to 10+% return over the last 15 years. Any Pontiac GTO or Firebird just went up 30% in value without doing a thing to it. Sooner or later a younger generation is going to want my MJ. By then I will more than likely be in the wheelchair at the old folks home after they take my drivers license away. By then maybe Sugarfoot will be worth 13-15 K, hopefully more but she's an 88 so no doubt worth less than a 92. But by then I can just hire a limo and take out one of the hot nurses that like dirty old men cause they think were fun but safe. Mooohhhaahaa "Well I'll show you safe honey, did I ever tell you I used to own a Jeep Comanche?". Hey is beer thirty somewhere, later boys JD with FEMA Region VI

The state labor laws are where the problem is. If your a free labor state like we are here Texas. You can work for either and neither one dominates or dictates how and for what something is done. If you were smart, as a business owner than you had a general policy of "if the union men get a raise you gave your people a raise" best way to keep control of your company, remain competitive and your employees remained with you and were happy and it kept the union out. Thus if the unions went on strike and you personally did not feel the need to strike at your workplace than you did not have to walk off the job, and honor the strike. Times change and there was a time when the unions were needed to improve safety and honesty. But today with collective bargaining and OSHA and other watch dog groups the need for a union is no longer needed. HOOKEM HORNS! and GO Mavericks!

Really sorry to hear of your loss of a best friend. In 1999 I lost my dad. In 2000 I lost my downs syndrome little sister, In 2001 I lost my mom. In late 2001 I had to put down the last thing I had left, a 17 year old Shiz Zue named Sophie and the only decent thing I got out of my divorce in 89. I still miss that dog. I'd clone her in a heartbeat if I was rich. I kept her sweater which I realized years later had some hairs still in it. Maybe someday when prices come down and I don't travel all over the place for a living. I'd like to have another one for those retirement days. Very smart little dog.

Just to keep this bumped; So Obama fires the CEO and Chairman of GM (to send a message or not?) GM is days away from bankruptcy and restructure. Chrysler is more than likely watching what happens to GM. Ford probably trying to figure out how much money they should consider borrowing as it is now April now and nothing has changed other than millions have lost their jobs. Gas is back up to 2.00+ for no reason as it is still under 50.00 a barrel. James and Sugarfoot Now in Denton TX... lost job in Austin TX I swear I will return!

Filled up for a 1.86 today. Good price as most around here in Denton TX are 1.98

I changed to the Hella type and upgraded the wiring. Best safety upgrade I have done yet. Huge differance. Have had no problems with inspections for the last 2 years here in TX. Pretty strick here too as they are tighter than CA on smog.
-
Yes but your going to need to upgrade the wiring to a heavier gage and add a few relays. But can be done and is defiantly one of the best upgrades I have done on mine. Laterally the difference of night and day. Field at night under a no moon status or cloudy situation on a two lane country road... priceless. Hornbrod helped me out on what to get off Ebay and through a Hella vender he found. You might PM him or maybe he will chide in. Not cheap though but again well worth it. Transmission Mount Question
Sugarfoot replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Try Glen in Bethany Oklahoma he has a new one in stock for 85.00 and freight is 7 lbs. His number is 405-789-5715. Cheapest freight in this area is Fed Ex green but I'm not sure if he uses them. but I'm sure he uses UPS. No insurance needed as it is auto covered up to 100.00 James and Sugarfoot 1988 Pioneer 4.0 4x4 Austin TX Today gas was 1.39 a gallon, but had no place to go. -
Transmission Mount Question
Sugarfoot replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is a guy in Oklahoma that sells jeep parts on Ebay, "Mustang" something or other on Ebay. You may have to look around on Ebay. I think I paid 79.00 for mine. It was identical. freight would be kinda high as weight is around 5-6 lbs. Wish I could tell you exact name but its been 3 years or so. Any BA-10 mount will work I think. Anyone got a Cherokee with a BA-10/Peugeot that can confirm? Peugeot is such a PIA to spell. -
