Installing sound system on Comanche?
bermsurfer230 replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds good. I personally put new Pioneers (On sale for $15/pair!) in the doors, and two 6" bazooka tubes hooked up to a 500W 2ch amp. One tube behind each seat on the floor, cones facing the walls. Only takes up about 10" of height, plenty of room for other stuff on top of the subs. Sound WAAAAAY better than the 22 year old speakers that rattled, and the 6" subs have great response, with enough power for phatty bass lines :chillin: Just my $0.02, another idea for everybody. Paid under $100 for everything, and took a few hours to install. -
When your left front signal wasn't working before, did you notice any bumps or jars in the road? That would tell me to check for bad grounds or shorts. How long has this been a slight problem, and how recently did the lights stop working? Any recent projects with wiring/lights? I once cleaned a bulb housing and a light didn't work. Bad connection in the socket
-
Welllllll... You probably know about checking the grounds front and rear for ANY lighting problem. Check those first. Then make sure ALL light bulbs are working, and that you have the correct bulbs for the application. I recently found that I replaced a rear turn signal bulb with one that didn't flash, so lots of fun there. :rotf: Check under the dash for any loose wores, particularly ones that would go to dimmer switch, or multifunction turn signal. After that, it might be something major :???: But I hope not!

Sick flares! And waaaay stronger than anything you can buy. They're like a bulletproof (literally) prerunner fender

Ya Nells has a couple fast trucks! I love diesel, wish I had the time/money to convert the MJ :chillin:

Sick tips... I just had to cut off the last 16 inches or so of my 6 MONTH OLD CAT BACK PIPING because a co worker backed it onto a rock, crunched the pipe about 6 inches from the tip :fs1: But I had been debating about running the exhaust out the back XJ style with a turndown, so I cut the pipe off right in front of the 90* bend so it's a straight shot. Seeing the duals though... That might be an option! Did you use XJ tips? And how'd you route the piping? Awesome truck, too! Been reading all 35 pages last night and tonight, and your MJ has seen quite a transformation! Keep it going, your ingenuity is outstanding! And motivationg me to get out in my driveway and show my truck some love :chillin:

Welcome to the club! As you've seen, manner folks on here are knowledgeable and ready to help you with whatever you ask. Seems like somebody has an answer, or where to look for one  And it's cool to see another fellow FF! I'm a volunteer in WA, and i noticed your seat cover. That's pretty sick! Where/how did you get that made? Would be cool to get/make something similar for my seat rebuilds i need to do... Keep us posted on any updates about you or the MJ!

Me too! I've been fiddling around with the welder... Dad and friends are teaching me. I like the look of this design the best out of all I've researched, so maybe i shall try my hand this summer and I promise not to build them for money  Unofficial Comanche Club Copyright regulations :brows: -
Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
bermsurfer230 replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Man great truck! I love the headliner! Mine is falling down (again...) so that's on the soon to fix list. I had considered doing the 3D JEEP logo up top, but decided to keep it simple and faster and get it back in the truck cuz it was loud. I am also looking at the RRO 5 inch lift, was seeing how you like the ride. How do the shocks work with the springs? Anything you don't like? What DO you like? I also love the Dakota seats! It seems there is plenty of room for the midsize truck's seat arrangement. keep us updated on how the MJ, and you are doing! I will hopefully get my "build" thread up soon to share Good job again, really like the truck- 798 replies

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
bermsurfer230 replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Whoah... Just read through your project. Now I'm back to debating between dark blue or black... I'm diggin those black rims with white lettering too. They work well with the all black! Great build man! Seeing all of these projects gets me pumped to start my build up! So many great ideas and thoughts, that aslo help me change/modify my own plans and thoughts. Keep us posted on that interior too mate! Can't wait to see the end result of all your labor! -
Clicked over 201,000 miles last weekend! Woo Hoo! But today I cleaned my MJ out, vacuumed, replacing the weatherstripping around the door now, and then washing it! It'll look brand new! (Except for the peeling clearcoat...) :D

Heater core clogged...bad
bermsurfer230 replied to bermsurfer230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just an update. New heater core is in. Old one was flushed and worked ok for the time being. New one is waaaaaay warmer. Woo hoo! People should not be afrais of changing out the heater core like I was. took about 2 hours, but I did a bang-up job cleaning stuff up while I was under there  -
Is the cold air only noticable when the truck is moving forward, or all the time? I would check and make sure that your passenger door is still aligned, and closes properly. Make sure to check the hinge, they tend to start seperating and throw the alignment off. Also, check the door seals. They lose their pliability and squishiness/resiliance after 20 years... At least mine did so now a door leaks :fs1: Might as well check both doors he he... If the door is aligned, not drooping, and is sealed, then I would check out the vents. After that, I have no idea. :dunno: That's as far as I had to go with mine, thankfully!

Let's Play, "Why won't my MJ Start"....
bermsurfer230 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Agreed. It's only a matter of time (as pessimistic as that sounds) before it won't be a matter of unplugging and plugging back in. So I'd get a new one now. Or two. I replaced mine last year due to intermittent non-starting issues, and I also have a spare in the glove box. Just to be safe and not miss work again :headpop: -
Any news on MPG difference? i'm considering making a spacer if not just for better throttle response. I spend a lot of time in the lower RPMs. Wring it out from time to time though, too ;)

Heater core clogged...bad
bermsurfer230 replied to bermsurfer230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, I really appreciate that! But my dad ordered me a new one yesterday, and said Santa should drop it off via UPS in the 20th  Just in time for snow driving... I mean getting to work :brows: he he he -
Cool beans, thanks for the site. Now I know where to get the stickers when I get around to repainting my truck! :hijack: Comanchedude... do you know what color blue your MJ is? I like it! Maybe a similar blue will be my next color...

Welcome! Ya, I would recommend 4 people for bed removal too. My friend and I had a difficult time moving mine off and back in, and we're both fairly active guys. And yes, it is MUCH easier to get to some stuff with the bed off!

Wow 150 clams is a steal! Don't forget about extending brake lines and make sure you have all the front end goodies to complete it, too. And the alignment after the lift. Just making sure you got all your bases covered before the start of the project

Heater core clogged...bad
bermsurfer230 replied to bermsurfer230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ha ha ha I knew somebody out there had my answer! I love CLR!!! Have a couple jugs on hand always at my house. I can't believe I didn't think of that stuff earlier... So that should be my temporary solution till next paycheck, and then a new core is going in. Man, these antibiotics must be gettin to the smart part of my head... I've done stupid stuff all day. Thanks again everyone for your input and knowledge! Tomorrow might be a better day, one with some heat  -
Heater core clogged...bad
bermsurfer230 replied to bermsurfer230's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cool beans dudes/dudettes! So there might still be hope for the core I have, eh...? :brows: I still need to find a way to somehow pump water into the core to flush it, or find a friend who doesn't have frozen water spickets. But, once I can clean it out I shall repost with results! And Jakeman17, do you know what AUTOMAN gave you? Was it a tool or a cleaning supply? I'm wondering if it's really bad if maybe some Drano would be ok to use, as long as I flush that all out really well afterwards. Thanks again for all the help! Yall were fast, too  -
So since it is cold out (averaging 31*F highs) I would really like to have heat in my truck on the way to work. And on the way back home from a loong day out in the cold. Anyways, PO didn't take care of cooling system properly, so rust build up was BAAD! I flushed the system out last summer, so that's all good, but it seems the heater core wasn't flushed. I went to fix this problem today, only to have the vacuum actuated valve thingy, that flows coolant to the heater core, break off. Looked inside and the whole assembly was plugged with rust... and the line to the heater core is stiff from rust build up too  I now have done away with that valve and replaced the metal tee with a new plastic one, and replaced the hoses with new. Engine runs smoother and flows coolant MUCH BETTER now! I really would rather not remove the heater core and replace with a new one, cuz that would take a while to order a new one and switch it out. Plus, I'm very limited on funds :fs1: Our garden hoses around here are out of comission for a while due to the cold temps, so is there a way to manually pump water through the core to clean it out? Or will it just be better to bight the bullet and buy a new core when I have more money? I'm trying to come up with a system to do it, but can't tap into my genius at the moment I guess. Thanks again for everybody who contributes to this site! I've been able to log on and usually have my questions answered before I start a project! :clapping:

Fixed the coolant bottle, and burped the coolant system! Decided this weather sucks with a blocked heater core. Our highest temp all week was 33*F, and I'm a summer kinda guy  Let's see what else... Rotated tires, pulled out the snow chains and cleaned those up. Just made sure they were all good for this year... Remembered my 4X4 conversion never happened last summer, so maybe next summer. Anybody have extra AX15's, transfer cases, and front axles...? Oh, then I washed him and then me :D
