They are exactly like the ones under your 76 F-150. :D I love my suspension! I used the Ford design and built my own crossmember, drag link, track bar, and tweaked the coil buckets a bit since they don't quite line up with the MJ. The flex isn't the greatest when compared to a four-link, but the stock rubber C-bushings are light years beyond the crappy poly ones I had before. I went with the Ford stuff rather than converting my 2wd truck with straight MJ/XJ stuff because I wanted a bit more "project" than a pure "bolt-on". I don't know about Holeski's intentions for his bumper, but the hitch in my custom rear bumper will never see a trailer. I built it for extraction purposes. :D The hitch pin is on the other side of the bumper for maximum pull-out resistance.

That's why I did the vast majority of the prep work for my rollbar and tried to keep the design as simple as possible. Plus I found a local guy that did quality fab work out of his garage (and yes, I examined his work before letting him touch my baby).

I know it's not quite what you're looking for, but my 88 does have long arms. :D It's just that Ford made them back in '78.

Any 5"+ lift kit that claims to offer a good ride should have drop brackets for short control arms or full long arms in their design. At the very least, longer short arms are required to maintain the caster angle and keep the tire centered in the wheelwell. That ebay lift doesn't include any replacement control arms and should be avoided. Notice how close the front tires are to the rear of the wheelwell. Plus, why the heck don't they offer full lift coils? :nuts:

It essentially boils down to "you get what you pay for". Cheap parts are cheap for a reason. Lesser quality processes and less R+D equate to a less expensive product. That isn't to say that everything that Rusty makes is crap, just that I hear more grumbling about the cheaper suspension products out there than the high-end stuff like Rubicon Express. I got 3" coils from Rusty and I love them, but rumor has it that the springs are actually made by an outside vendor. I also have his track bar bracket and it has held up just fine so far (I remember hearing stories of failures with the early batches, but I have a later one). That is, aside from the rust. But then, EVERYTHING on my truck rusts, so it's not like I can tell if it's anything special. :mad:

I would avoid any plastic brackets for sure. The one on the house broke off during a wind storm, that can't bode well for traveling behind a truck. I wonder what exists for like RVs and such?

Swapping a Dana 44 into the front is not easy, but you can swap in Dana-44-sized U-joints into the axle with very little effort. What size tires are you looking to run?

Depends. Personally, I would certainly take some cash (but somehow try to hide that I brought a trailer). But then, I can't say that the truck is worth $500 without knowing more about it. It could be worth less or more. A poor running engine could be a sensor, or it could be a hole in a piston. Normally I'd say rust would be a deciding factor, but I just spent $300 on an MJ with no floors. :D

Nothing's been made just yet. I intend to do like PBS and just ask for donations. All money will go towards the costs of maintaining this site and the costs of the magnet/stickers.

I was under the impression that all AX-15s were the same and the GL-5 thing was a mistake in the early years. no?

I like the idea of stickers for these, the biggest obstacle I'm hitting is the enormous minimum-order. My dad just told me that he swims with a guy who also does this sort of thing, so I'll see what he carries before I do anything. Maybe I can get everything at a discount! :D Jeep on! --Pete

Specifically 4x7? :USAflag: The minimum purchase quantity for them is smaller than the 2x3.5 magnets, although the overall minimum purchase price is still expensive. My picturetrail account is currently in the middle of being transfered to a new server so I tried out a free photobucket account and this is as large as the site would make my image (even after cutting off the words to keep the file under 1mb). "Junk" in this article means "someone else's Jeep that they think is a piece of junk so you can buy it for cheap and turn it into a great wheeler". In other words: great buys. We're behind only the YJ, XJ, and SJ on the list. My favorite quote: "If the truck runs at all and doesn't smoke or knock, grab it..."

I would start researching the AX-15 swap. Never hurts to be prepared. :D

There were some very minor changes between 88 and 89 (mostly wire color differences), but the 89 manuals are Chrysler's version and are still in print.
