  1. Back when my 88 was a 2wd daily driver, I could notice the engine getting noticeably sluggish around 2500 miles. Changing the oil felt like adding a super charger! So I change the oil at 2k in all my old Jeeps. Also, cheap oil is fine, cheap filters should be avoided.

Until my 90 MJ is finished, my driver is a 97 Chrysler minivan. Pluses: we are the original owners so I know its entire history, gets a consistant 25 mpg on the highway, accelerates and handles great for being a minivan, heat and A/C function just fine, can load a couch or fridge into the back and close the hatch, hauls axles and tires with aplomb (could also carry 7 people if I ever put the seats back in it). Minuses: only a couple hundred miles from 200k, needs a new wheelbearing, rear hatch no longer stays up, drivers side middle door doesn't open, lights no longer come on when you open the front doors, stock foglights long ago died, stock headlights SUCK, gauges mysteriously shut off, engine mysteriously shuts off (but no relation to the gauges), various fluids leak, wipers are haunted, radios likes to pop or go silent at random intervals, and some other minor issues. But on the whole, it's aged better than any of the MJs I own. :D I love it and I see myself owning a minivan for the rest of my life. I can't get enough of the stow-n-go seating and power doors in my parents' new van. :D

If someone handed me the keys, I'd have no problem thrashing the pavement in that, Jeep or not. Word to the wise, get a Jeep with a diesel. It can make up for the other shortcomings. :D
  4. Some of them have gone as high as $2, but usually they are between $0.85 and $1.50 to ship. Of course, then there are the overseas packages I've sent out. :brows:
  5. The sun needs to be directly behind you so you aren't taking a picture of the shaded side of the truck.
  6. It's been done before. Don't know how easy it was though.
  7. MJs never got a center mounted overhead light. I've long since forgotten what the lights behind your head do. But I do remember that the SUCK, even when working properly. I use a flashlight in the 86, a battery operated "touch" light (center-mounted overhead) in the 88, and a 500 watt halogen lamp in the 90 (it's still only half-built and in the garage so I use the garage lighting). :D

Dunno. We certainly have "discussions" over points of difference, but nothing like I've seen on other sites. Maybe Comanche owners are all just simply nice people? :dunno: But then again, the buck stops at my computer and I will NOT tolerate truly mean spirited posts. And you'll notice there isn't a smilie flippin' the bird. I'm all for the freedom of expression, but there has to be a balance so new members aren't turned away by a bad atmosphere.

Yeah, about the closest thing to flaming here is when the "all Jeeps should be lifted" guys whine about an owner dropping his 2wd MJ.
  10. Yeah, illegal wheeling is wrong. But not taking any pictures while you're doing something dumb is even worse. :needpics:
  11. Nope, you are right. The fullsize ford axles will make the tires stick out more than now (especially up front). Of course, that didn't stop me from putting 78 Ford axles under my 88 MJ. :D Plus, if you tried to install only that Dana 44 front, then you would have mismatched axles width AND a mismatch in wheel bolt pattern.
  12. I'd ask for proof of that engine work. Heck, I'd ask for proof of any repairs or replaced parts he claims. New cigarette lighter? Where's the receipt? :D
  13. The tubes are, well, I don't want to say good, but at least they have proven to be stronger than the box thus far. The one time I sent a rolled up sticker in a box, it got crushed. :( The tubes I use are wicked strong with a 4" diameter and like 5" long with custom ends that are securely taped on. Never had a problem before now. :dunno: Hopefully it'll show up soon. I'm thinking of adding something to the tube so it can't roll around. :hmm: I'd hate to lose one because it simply rolled away from a worker. :(
  14. Look to see if both filaments in the bulb are out. :D
  15. jcw.com seems to have them for $13 each in 2.25, 2.5, and 3" varieties.
  16. It'll be an AX-5, but the procedure for the internal slave cylinders is the same.
  17. Ahhh, if they are both 2.5L 4-cylinders, then the 4 speed is an AX-4 and the 5 speed is and AX-5. :D One mystery solved. Now you just need to track down why they couldn't fix it in the first place.
  18. Last monday I think. It was shipped in a small cylindrical tube. Jeep on! --Pete
  19. Yup. I was a couple days behind in mailing it out, but you should have it by now. :hmm: Stupid post office. Keep me posted.
  20. Yup, that is the question of the day. No 4 speed manual trans was ever offered behind the 4.0L and the AX-4 won't bolt to the 4.0L. So is it a Peugeot with a broken 5th? Some really old 4 speed that used to be behind a different Jeep 6 cylinder? :dunno:
  21. And some upgrades to the front axle shafts and U-joints. :D
  22. No prices. It's all donation. Send whatever you'd like. All moneys go towards supporting the site (and paying for the sticks). Jeep on! --Pete
  23. Yeah, the stainless steel band clamps are friggin awesome! I'll be using more of them on the 90 when I finally get to the exhaust. I get them at the local speed shop.
  24. See the Announcement post at the top of the pub. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1569
  25. He says they are both 4.0Ls. Hopefully he'll read my other post and check to see what on earth trans he has in the 88.
