Here's a couple pictures of my jeep
Pete M replied to JumpinJeepy's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I knew you could do it. :D I was just about to ask where you wanted them, but now it's a moot point. It would help a bit if you could get the whole truck in the photo though. ;) Sweet rig by the way. -
Workin' on it. :D

NO VACUUM ACCUATOR on front axle
Pete M replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup. Can't ever be certain when it comes to Jeep. Just going by the number/years of axles listed on car-part, there was a huge dropoff in the number of discos after 90 and 91. -
NO VACUUM ACCUATOR on front axle
Pete M replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As far as I can tell, the disco survived in XJs through 93. Then was abolished in 94. There are junkyards in car-part.com that have 92s and 93s listed as disconnects. Although there are way more 90s and 91s listed than 92/93. -
pilot bearing help with 2wd to 4wd Ax-15
Pete M replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think bronze is what you're looking for Mini. Brass is too soft and will likely adhere itself to the engine and transmission. -
Yup. I'm staring at it right now. :D

Those are trip computer numbers. Typically they are a couple mpg higher than actual, but the only way to know for sure is with careful tabulation of each fillup, and there's little chance of that happening.

Project CRD MJ is born:
Pete M replied to Sir Sam's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
My plan (and it was a very unofficial one) was to yank the entire CRD harness and dash and stuff it all into the MJ as whole as possible. I was never going for looks, just functionality. Wiring just isn't my specialty. I can do it, I just don't like to. (Which is one of the reasons my 90 sit there. It needs a new fuse box. :( ) -
Yea, but whats gonna happen when they go back UPHILL :brows: I usually seem to get better mileage going downhill into Florida from Georgia :dunno: From Atlanta to Florida it's pretty much all "downhill". But technically speaking, Atlanta is at a higher elevation than Detroit. (~800 vs 600) But anyway, the 33.3 is unofficial, but on the return trip on the flatter sections of Ohio we were getting 32.4 mpg. And that's with 3 adults, 2 dogs and a rack on the back of the Jeep. It's on the tail end of the oil change interval, so it might have been even better with some fresh 0w50. :D

I had a similar problem and squirted in a whole bunch of silicone and let it sit overnight.

pilot bearing help with 2wd to 4wd Ax-15
Pete M replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh, you're going the other way. Bummer man. To my knowledge, no one has yet located a stock replacement. Take your calipers to the store and poke around and you might be the first. :D Don't forget about length if you find a bearing. A stock bushing could be easily cut down. -

The bushing will work for swapping a later AX-15 in to an early 4.0L. As far as I know, you don't need to lube it (I didn't when I swapped a 99 AX into my 88 ). -

So you're swapping an 93 AX-15 into an 89 Jeep with the stock 4.0L? Or vise-versa? If the former, have you tried the CJ pilot bushing yet? -

The one and the same. :D Thanks for the help getting a replacement hose. And please keep me posted on the Samco hoses. I might miss the announcement. -
Fronts for sure. Rear TJ springs are different in shape.

Dang it. Someone might beat me to a CRD MJ! Of course, our CRD Libby is still running great (a new record of 33.3 mpg on the trip computer this past week) and I won't get a shot at the conversion unless we total it somehow... Good luck and take LOTS of pictures!!! (I'll need something to copy off of :brows: ) -
Update. The Libby set a new record on the way down to Georgia. Dad said he got a best of 33.3 mpg on the trip computer. I've cleaned the sensors and dropped in a fresh air filter since last time.

A set of Explorer leafs (retaining your main leaf) would provide drop in the back and they are about the same length as an MJ leafpack.

power steering upgrade - Durango?
Pete M replied to dunl's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As far as I know, the 2.5 and 4.0 share power steering boxes. -
power steering upgrade - Durango?
Pete M replied to dunl's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, the Durango box is supposed to be a good upgrade to the Jeep boxes. There's a post somewhere on NAXJA about it. I'm not at home so I don't have my saved addresses. If you haven't found it by Tuesday I'll post it when I get home. -
So I got this tranny........
Pete M replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The AX-15 is the one that came from behind a 4.0L. The AX-5 goes to the 2.5/2.8 Yes, it looks like an external AX-15 to me Yes, your CPS will work If your current backup switch has a different plug, just splice in yours. Yes your mechanical speedo should work, but you may need to swap shafts on the gears. -
I disagree. I've watched the electrolysis in action and my engine sucks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more air than these devises can produce. Besides, what keeps the H2 from combining with 02 in the intake air and forming water before it ever reaches the engine? Bottom line, when a legitimate and trustworthy source like popular mechanics or a scientific newspaper says that this is for real, I'll believe. When fly-by-night websites and youtube videos are selling the concept, it's bunk.

Upload at a site like picturetrail.com and bring the pic's address here. Highlight it and click on the IMG tag. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

The alternator can only produce so much H2. I have strong doubts that it's enough to actually affect anything in any way. Also, it doesn't make any sense that GM or Ford wouldn't be jumping all over this crap to make their big trucks get 40 mpg. Or are they in kahutes (sp?) with big oil? Maybe big oil is secretly balancing out the big 3's losses with oil's huge profits?
