Dang it. Well, the pics of the MJ in action will have to wait as I didn't press record in time to get those scenes, but I did catch something I've always wondered about and I have a new theory about the MJ stand-in. In the scene leading up to the burning XJ, there was a wide angle shot where you could see most of the village. Sure enough, the XJ is there, not the MJ. The I snapped a shot of the burning SJ and compared it to a shot of the driving SJ seen earlier with the MJ. Sure enough, it's a different SJ. So my new theory is that it's possible that the village scene was shot at a different local than the earlier locations and that's the best they could do. Seems with all the money they blew on the flick they could have done a better job disguising the XJ... :D Driving SJ: Burning SJ: Notice the differences in side mirrors and light bar.

And the winner is ... (Death Wobble Poll)

Did you do things one at a time? If so, what was the last thing? -
True, and yet still better than burning an MJ. :D

And the winner is ... (Death Wobble Poll)
Pete M replied to Eagle's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This particular poll is about what people believe causes it. Do you think it's directly translatable into what fixes it? Meaning that if I had deathwobble and balancing the tires fixed it I would vote for that. Maybe we should have a poll only for those that have experienced it or directly know someone that had it and then they could say what it was that actually fixed it. I'd be curious how that compares to the first poll. -
It's an okay adventure flick about a couple guys looking for a lost confederate ship that end up searching for the source of a poison that's spreading across Africa. Or something like that. More importantly, the MJ comes in somewhere in the middle when the doctor and her caravan head across the desert in a hoodless MJ and a fullsize Cherokee. I got the DVR to record it today and I'll see if I can zoom through to the MJ and snap some pics of the truck itself.

Maybe he got the wrong link? :dunno: I'll move this over to the pub.

Quick tips off the top o' my head: -Do internet searches on every bit of info you can get on the guy: phone numbers, email addresses, names, etc. -Figure out a way to slide some of the info you've found into your conversations with said individuals. -Meet in brightly lit, public areas when possible. (the local police station is always a plus :D ) -Never go alone, never be at your house alone -If you're really paranoid or get a weird feeling from an individual, never underestimate the benefits of having a video camera rolling from a house window or from in the back of your minivan. Just don't ever mention it to the guy with the gun or he'll steal that too.

My guess is that they fabbed it up to look like the MJ they were using earlier because they didn't want to burn the fully functional truck. It's not such a good idea to burn up a prop, cough I mean the star of the movie :D , if you might need it later. They could have even shot the scenes out of order. :dunno:

Sahara was on last night and the thought occurred to me to grab the camera and see if I could snap a shot of the burning "MJ". Well, here it is:

This project is taking a break until I return from my trip to Georgia (22-29th) so I'll have time to contemplate my next move. I'm very frustrated with it and a breather will be good for me. As to the sleeved bolt, check out the project's page and you'll see. :( http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopi ... 5&start=15

I was hoping for something stronger than 10.9, but I guess I'll be making due. Thanks guys!

Wait, you're not going to spend 200 on those rims alone are you? I'm not sure they are worth it if you're going to buy more tires later.

Neutral meeting locations can be used sometimes. But with the internet, it's not really all that hard to track down someone's address using a phone number, email address, etc.

By my calculations that comes to a 30x10.5" tire. I think it'd work just fine. The worst that happens is some mild rub on the control arms, but that can be fixed with a washer under the steering stop. If you ask nicely, the guy may even let you bolt one up to the front of your truck to check fitment.

You should be able to pick up a decent XJ for like a grand. Then you'd have parts-commonality. :D And there's always the option of used tires.

I've got 3 (one of wheelin', one for haulin', one for drivin') and have been guilty of eying a 4th (whose purpose I haven't figured out yet). Thank goodness I don't have money or space for more. :D

One is bent, one was cut, and another other has permanently bonded itself to the bushing sleeve. I would use the ones that came with the rust-free florida packs I'm installing, but I think I scavenged them for use in the '90 after I had to cut several of its bolts to get the leaf packs off. Rust sucks. I'm going to use half a bottle of anti-seize on the next ones.

Yes, 30x9.5 will fit. Although some individuals have experience a small amount of rubbing on the lower control arms when at full lock (and sometimes only at full lock and going backwards). The 15x6" rims may exacerbate this. I wouldn't even recommend the 29x10.5s on the 15x6" rims. Too much difference in widths Look for some 15x7 stock rims at least. 15x8 would be best. And I would look for a used tires/rims combo before considering new. There are plenty of good deals out there. Heck, I sold the tires/rims you see below on the 86 for like 400 and the only had a couple thousand miles on them. craigslist.org is your friend. :D I picked up a set of decent Jeep 15x7 steelies last year for like $40. This is my 88 on 30x9.5" BFG ATs on 15x7 Jeep rims. I experienced no rubbing.

For those of you that needed to replace the 14mm leaf spring bolts, where did you get them? Online source? Or what did you go with if you couldn't get an exact match? The best my local hardware store has in 14mm is an "8.8" strength (comparable to grade 5) and I was hoping to find some in "10.9" (or better if I can, since I somehow managed to bend one of the 10.9s I had previously).

Yeah, they are having trouble giving the dangs things away. You didn't turn the MJ in as a "trade", did you?
-
I gotta imagine either one would work. Free stuff can be cool. :D

Nice find! Having the dana44 rear should mean you have 3.73 gears.
