  1. The track bar is one of those rare things that, if the truck is at stock height, the best replacement is another stock bar. Get yourself a quality one if you can. Dealership stuff should be pretty good.
  2. If you ever want to replace the control arm bushings, I suggest complete WJ arms.
  3. Not originally, but I caught it soon after. I decided to leave it there to see if anyone noticed. To this day maybe 5 people have pointed it out. :D
  4. :rotf: My junk is measured on a completely different scale (mainly the scrap yard's) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
  5. Good call Pete. I normally have glasses on for that reason, but the ear plugs make sense. I've found safety glasses to be barely better than my regular glasses at keeping falling debris out of my eyes. I reach for goggles if I'm doing anything that involves a grinder or a hammer (which is just about every project underneath my trucks).
  6. Probably. and since I can't easily transfer all of these numbers into excel for a simple tally, we may never know. :dunno: To scale up, the top 1.3% of 103000 is almost 1400 people, and I just don't have that much patience to copy paste all that. :ack:
  7. Clearly we're being out-posted :D but I'd be curious as to how the breakdown of members goes. For example, the most prodigious 1.3% of posters here account for fully half the posts. I wonder if that scales up. :dunno: Is this just a case of our small group, or is this more like the bell curve, which can be applied to all sorts of things in the world. :smart:
  8. rust, grease, dirt, and oil all fall from my trucks with enough regularity that I generally have earplugs in when I do any underside work. :fs1:
  9. Any year WJ. WJs are the grand cherokees from 99 to 04
  10. the old Yahoo group site was founded in late 2002 the CC forum site was created in March 2005

found another shot of the CRD "workin" (delivering a CJ-8 carcass for a friend) :D
  12. I just noticed that we're approaching our 3000th member. :clapping: We're also approaching our 20,000th thread and our 200,000th post (these numbers come from the bottom of the "Board Index" page). So here's a bit of the breakdown, just for the heck of it. These numbers are all rounded off. I'm not that bored. 1900 members have at least one post 700 members at least 25 500 members at least 50 300 members at least 100 80 members at least 500 The top 40 posters have 100,000 combined posts None of these numbers include the old yahoo group site, which has about 28,000 posts and 1648 members, many of whom are duplicates of guys here or spammers. I wonder how we compare to other Jeeping or other niche sites. :dunno: Although, I know some of the other sites will go through and delete non-active accounts or they have a fee system and that might skew the numbers.
  13. x3 on the cleaning. You MUST clean the rust and paint and everything else off the areas to be welded!
  14. Seems like an opportune time to replace all the rubber pieces in the fuel lines too.
  15. I'm not sure what years, but Chrysler made an awd minivan too.
  16. Firefox spellchecking ftw!

the 86 was rust free until some guy brought it up here from a farm in Oklahoma (originally a california truck). She was beat up, but pristine when I bought her. :( I'll never let another clean MJ touch a Michigan winter. :fs1:
  18. chances are very good it'll have a Dana 35. And 3.07 gearing, which sucks. Dunno how that padding comes out. I always cut the thing out. Better ask the guys  (tech questions should really go in the tech forum anyway)
  19. Sprinkle baby powder all over the suspect area. as the water seeps in, it'll make trails through the powder, leading you right to the source. :D Then let it dry out and vacuum it up. It's helped me find 2 leaks so far that I never would have found otherwise.
  20. Do the rear main seal while it's out.

one in the same. But you might want to put a past tense in that statement. as with all my Michigan trucks, they look better from a distance. :(
  22. That's a huge chunk o' dough. for under a grand you could buy a whole XJ and part out all the unnecessary stuff. Or buy the XJ, swap the 4wd stuff for your 2wd stuff and re-sell the XJ. :D cluster won't work, you need an 87-90 era. the baby powder trick can help you out with the leak detection. and welcome to the club! :waving:
  23. Only an MJ axle will bolt-on. but it's real easy to get perches burned onto that XJ axle. check with your local muffler shop.

the family CRD, hauling yet another load of stuff. My 86 in its current employment; as my storage locker. :D
  25. getting the right gear ratio is far more important than perch location. getting perches welded on is pretty easy.
