Interesting.....wonder how much $$$ (?) offroader461- nice pics, thanks. It's funny, too, because I'll be installing a set of Rancho's and BFG AT's when I put these in...same setup as yours LOL. Jeff

Just scored a set of almost-brandy-spankin'-new ACOS from a local club down here for a Benjamin and a case of Bud Light. Now I don't have any excuse not to get the front end lifted to match the rear..... but I have to go to Philly this weekend with the wife. No Jeep for me :headpop: Jeff

or check UNL1MTD on here. He had a set off a parts MJ he was selling...not sure if he's still got 'em or not, though. That was a couple weeks ago. Jeff

Well, there ya go.....mystery wire solved :D Id'a never guessed it was a second horn wire....never knew it was an option  Kenny, I learned something today..... Now you got me thinking about adding a second horn to my MJ! Jeff

You do sidework writing for Haynes/Chilton's? :rotf: Jeff

The AX5 in my MJ is about in the same shape as yours. It's got over 210K on it, and it sounds like a can of marbles in anything over 2nd gear, especially when coasting. But, it still pulls fine (knocks on wood). I just picked up another one from UNL1MTD last week that I'm going to clean up and swap in, sometime.... Jeff

I've got now two spare 2.5/AX5 rear driveshafts, in addition to the one currently under the MJ (yes, I'm a packrat....) Problem is that there all from D35 rears. I've got a '44 going in shortly, and can measure the pinion length difference between it and a '35, and measure one of the shafts if you want me to. Then you can just do some math and see what you need. IIRC, the pinion is 5/8” longer but don’t quote me on that. I’m hoping that when I put mine in, the driveshaft will remain the same because of lift. When I swapped the springpacks and got that 3” lift in the rear, I noticed my slipyoke pulled out about ½” or so. Hopefully it’ll all balance out (but if it doesn’t I have 3 driveshafts to choose to cut down :D) Jeff

yep, overflow for one thing. Also, water run as black and murky as you have ever seen, and there were some verrrryy strange sounds coming from the plumbing inside the walls and ceilings. God only knows what all broke, but there were alot of service vans and maintenence people running around the rest of the day. Heh, that was almost 20 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday.....good times.

synchronized toilet flush......and make sure you get the females involved too. Count the number of heads in your school and find that number of accomplices to man each one. At precisely the same time, EVERYONE flushes, then runs. It is destructive, though. I can vouch for that :brows: Jeff edit: this message will self-destruct in 10 seconds......

bench out....buckets in (finally)
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The driverside has a tiny lean to it toward the door, but I think I lost the little shims/washers for it when I pulled the bench out....I space it back up level on the final install. The black vinyl bench absolutely sucked in the summertime, and I'm glad the seats are fabric. Hopefully the won't get as skin-burning hot. Probably won't install the full center console, but I noticed driving it to work today that I need some kinda armrest in the center for longer trips. I might homebrew something or adapt something out of the junkyard for inbetween the seats. I kinda like seeing all that floor now....kinda like riding in a YJ...kinda....:) Jeff -
bench out....buckets in (finally)
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just stabbed them in in a fit of "git-'er-dun" emotion . I got the bench bracket I needed from Sean (that was holding up the whole install), and decided to see how it all fit up. Everything is coming back out, once I determine the final ride height, and getting sandblasted and repainted before it goes in for the final install. I was just so giddy that I finally got 'em in that I had to post up some pics :D -
bench out....buckets in (finally)
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think they'd be too tall for you. The one minor thing I've noticed (other than thwacking my skull on the door frame getting out a couple times) is there's alot less space between the seat bottom and the bottom of the steering wheel (even with the seat rocked the whole way back). Not so much an issue now, because it's summer and I'm wearing shorts, but come wintertime, with long pants/long coat it may cause problems. It sure is different sitting that high up inside the cab, though. Feels a bit "tipsy", even though nothing has changed but the seat height. Oh, and I also had the flip the rearview mirror over so I could sight out the rear window. Wish I had put the CC sticker on the bottom of the window, not the top across the center. It's right in the sightline now.... :D If I end up getting down to Pat's place anytime soon, maybe we can meet up somewhere and you can do a test-sit. Jeff -
and 86's were all longbeds, too. Jeff

bench out....buckets in (finally)
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I got that on, but it turns out I need the rear plastic clippy thing that the handle attaches to. Can you pull that off before you send the MJ away? Jeff -
Spent some quality MJ time this weekend. First, on Sunday, went up and met Sean (UNL1MTD) and tore apart his parts MJ…..got the tranny, TC, driveshafts, and some miscellaneous other stuff  Then yesterday, I got all inspired and mounted up the XJ buckets I pulled out of the junkyard last year. They’ve been sitting under the house all this time because I needed a driverside bench bracket. Mine’s trashed, and luckily Sean had a good one. Suffice to say, swapping brackets is a PITA, especially doing them in the driveway on a sunny 94 degree summer day. My weapon of choice was the angle grinder and punch to get the rivets out (almost set my lawn on fire, though….) The XJ rocker buckets do indeed sit a couple inches higher, but they’re not so bad. I’m only 5’8” and still have plenty of headroom, but if you were taller I don’t think it would be comfortable. I got the rockers because they were in great shape, and black (you know how hard it is to find black interior parts???). If I decide I don’t like ‘em that high, I’m gonna cut and weld/bolt the front bracket to bring the ride height down some, but so far I like them the way they are. I just have to remember to duck my head a bit getting out (already found that out the hard way). Here’s a couple pics….I still need the bracket cover for the driver side, but you can see how the bench brackets bolt to the slider. I also repainted the grill and headlight bezels, and mounted the front plate with a plastic bracket I got from Sean also. It's a generally accepted fact that XJ/MJ stock brake systems are inadequate (that's putting it nicely :D ). Larger than stock tires only make it worse. One thing to check is rear brake adjustment. The self-adjusters tend to not self-adjust very well......once you have the rears adjusted, bleed the entire system. That should help, some. Jeff

Blower Motor Resistor location??
mjeff87 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's inside the cab. Look under the dash beneath the glovebox for where the blower housing is. There will be a long, flat 4 wire connector plugged into the housing. The connector is plugged into the resistor. HTH, Jeff -
nice... no d35 edit post: crap! it is 35!
mjeff87 replied to bhorocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There's that route, or you could just pick up an earlier cover out of the 'yard, for about $5. Jeff -

tomken front rock bumper, updated (installed)
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Got inspired last night after work and decided to test mount it. For now, I tied the brackets into the tow hook brackets (including the L shaped front ones) I already have on. I had to notch out the front of the tow hook brackets a tiny bit, but other than that, it was a bolt-on job. I’ll probably end up taking the tow hook brackets off and building a new bracket altogether, so I can tuck it a bit further back toward the grill. But for now, it’ll work. Couple pics….. Sticks out just a wee bit Image Not Found got to clean up underneath, but here’s a front shot Image Not Found had to notch the bracket a tad (in hindsight, I should have notched the bumper instead of the bracket, but oh well…..)
