  1. Was cruising to the next county yesterday on my weekly beer run (I live in a "dry" county  ), and I spotted a red MJ in a guys yard. Cruised into the yard on my way back for a look-see. Knocked on the door, nobody was home. The house was beautiful, definitely not rednecks. :brows: The rig is an 89 Eliminator SWB, 2WD, A/C, 90K, on the odo, w. a 5-speed tranny. Paint was faded, but the body was great, NO rust or dents, and the interior looked new w. buckets and a full console. Even had a cargo light! I left a note on the door with my name and telephone, and the guy calls last night. He is the original owner, hadn't contemplated selling it, just uses it around town, runs great, nothing wrong with it, and said he'd call when he wanted to sell it. Turns out the guy is the city attorney. :D yeah, a lawyer. His wife called about an hour later, says she hates the truck, wants a new one, and is working on him to sell it - cheap (her words). Figured I might throw a paint job on it, and resell it. So guys, "What's This Worth"?
  2. I already had the 91 HO alum valve cover, so it was basically just a hose/CCV grommet swap for me. I don't know if the 91+ alum covers can be swapped easily to the 90 and below Renix engines. Maybe someone has done it? If so this mod should work just fine on the Renix engines too.
  3. Haven't finished it yet, prolly next this week.
  4. There is no PCV valve. Its a CCV system that uses an orifice in the rear of the valve cover to regulate air flow. Also there is no EGR (if that's what you meant) in 1991+ HO engines. Look here: http://www.madxj.com/ under "ENGINE" then "'93 XJ to '00 XJ CCV Upgrade". This mod allows the early HOs to breathe much better. Eliminated all blowby I had in my old 91 engine.
  5. Yeah, it was much cooler in the summer than the vinyl.
  6. No it's not. That sensor does not control the aux fan. Yeah, was dead wrong on that statement. I've since gotten smarter.
  7. Yes, but the Spal Automatic Programmable Fan Controller uses this voltage (must have a delta of ~.3V which it does) to control a fan. $48 on Ebay. This is what I'm using for my new electric fan that's going to replace the mechanical fan. Will let ya know how this works out Brett next week. http://www.spalusa.com/fans/automated/a ... anpwm.html
  8. Actually it is a switch and will work without issues; several (including myself) have done it without issues. The key is to use the wires as I stated above. They can be found in a ribbed protector running down the left hand inner fender. Out of this ribbed wiring sleeve will be a connector with a yellow and black wire. I just stumbled onto this thread after being away from it for awhile. I don't have a '91 FSM but I do have a '94 FSM, and I believe the systems are basically the same. The engine coolant temperature "sensor" in the thermostat housing is NOT a switch, it is a variable resistor. It sends data to the PCM, which in turn sends a signal to the fan control relay. Feel free to check it for yourselves. Correct, it's a varistor that takes a 5V signal from the ECU and sends back a voltage dependent on the sensed temp to trigger the aux fan relay.
  9. deziped; Your post reminded me that I did the same thing when I first got my MJ way back when and I dug up a couple of pics. Found a local upholsterer who did my bench for $80. (hey, this is 'Bama ). This is the way to go IMHP - all seat covers get loose over time.
  10. I listed on Ebay some new OEM factory upholstery pieces I got in a parts buy from a Jeep Chrysler that went belly up, ebay item # 330210507854. I'm getting ready to toss it all out, so if you see anything that might work you can have it, just pay the mailing costs.
  11. Went up river (Umpqua) today. Caught a steeelhead here Image Not Found Beautiful. But what I want to know is how big was the steelhead? I live on a lake here in 'Bama, no steelhead, no trout of any kind, but plenty of big bass, crappie, and bream. Slow now though in the winter. 'Bout all you can catch now are the crappies. Trout fishing good all winter?
  12. Ebay item # 230221852766
  13. Think you might be right. I've sent a few emails out to various Chinese suppliers - might hear something back - might not.

  15. Did a search on Beijing Super Cherokee, 7-slot grille:
  16. I've been looking at various Chinese parts suppliers (Cherokee 213 & 2500) and have never seen this grille offered or even pictured. Know where I can locate one Eagle? In CHROME of course. :D

Hey Pat, that's ugly. Not the XJ; the snow! It's a balmy 45* or so in Huntspatch - want to come back? We have plenty of O'Reilly's here too mate as you know.
  18. Famous last words. :D I said the same thing, and so far I've stuck to it, only because I've got to convert to 4WD before going any higher. But seriously, you might as well do it right now, 'cause you'll do it later and the AAL will be wasted $$. You will not be satisfied w. an AAL, it's a stopgap measure at best, like polishing a turd. New leaf packs now will save you $$ in the long run IF you plan on keeping your rig. Just my 2-cents.
  19. You're gonna need the alum spacer plate with the 95/96 booster. It does three things: 1. spaces the bigger booster off the firewall so it doesn't butt up against it, 2. provides a sealing surface for the booster arm gasket, and 3. effectively shortens the new booster arm 'cause the booster is farther away from the pedal. The hole size difference is compensated with a 9/16" x 1/2" bushing.
  20. Swilson; Did you ever get your headlights to go out? One good thing that came out of this is that I now have the Headlamp Sentinel delay feature. :D I had the delay module sitting around in a box of electrical stuff, and plugged it in. It works fine, just turn the key off, pull the key, then shut off the headlights. They stay on about 30 seconds, then click off. If you don't want the delay feature, shut off the headlights first, then the ignition. Another useless creature comfort........
  21. jt; It's all explained on the http://www.madxj.com/ site. Just go to Technical, then Brakes. Tells you how to use the 95/96 booster with the older booster arm like yours. Just be sure to use the 95/95 master cylinder with it. I used my existing combo valve and made up new brake lines from the new master to it. I also retained the load leveling valve in the rear.
  22. Yeah, I looked and looked down here and did find one MT MJ but the leafs were all sagged out. Just said the h#!! with it and got new packs.
  23. Speaking of grills; been meaning to ask this: I've had this pic laying around on my hard drive for ages. Does anyone know from what model/year the below comes from? Image Not Found
  24. You got any pics of that Pat? I might want to do it. Image Not Found
