  1. That was a bit more that I paid for my NOS chrome bumper, but an excellent find nevertheless. But for sure, there are still more around. Keep lookin'
  2. Some hood vents come with drip pans, some don't. I used 98 ZJ 5.9 vents for awhile w. the drip pans, pics below. Water entry was never a problem w. this setup, but the drip pans didn't help the real purpose of why I did the vents originally - get the heat out of the engine bay. The stroker was running warmer than I wanted in traffic, and these vents really didn't help that much. The drip pans impeded the air flow. I've since installed a cowl hood, and this is the way to go. No H2O entry, and great evacuation of hot engine compartment air in all conditions. And no problemo w. heat in the winter. :D
  3. Pete, that's like strengthening a tank. :D The Grand Marquis (aka known as Crown Vics) had and have one of the best crash test ratings ever. Of course, more metal in the rear end sure won't hurt anything.
  4. Two of each of the following from the dealer: J5360058, VALVE, Vent J5360059, SEAL
  5. Back in the late 80s thru early 10s, I was stationed in various posts in the Pacific. Wherever I was, I most always had a Jeep RHD or LHD XJ because of family. Had always wanted an MJ (HO of course since I knew better by then), but since we were only allowed one vehicle, it was not an option. I had to leave the family six months early to return to the States permanently in 01, and searched the Internet grabbing all the MJ info I could find from the old Yahoo CC, and I stumbled on Ricks MJ Site. Found one I liked in VA, asked Rick for info and advice, he translated the VIN and concurred, and I bought it sight unseen. The rest is history. Thanks for your sage advice Rick-man, you are a true MJ Pioneer and well deserving the MJOTM award mate.
  6. Good thought. May we all agree to disagree. But we're all here, and we all drive MJs. Not a bad place to be.
  7. I know. Why should he. He made his point up front. Clearly. Yet we carry it on.
  8. I think the OP, Buckeye Charly, could care less about all the "discussion" his post created regarding the yea/nays of MJs (be they Renix or HO), Fords, Toyotas and all the rest of the crap posted that had nothing to do with the original topic. May Buckeye Charly live happily ever after with his Fords and/or Toys, while we live happily ever after with our MJs.
  9. Upgraded? The p/n for the CPS wiring repair package is 3300 4761. The p/n for the hi-altitude CPS is 5300 3659. Is this what you are looking for?
  10. No Homelink offered anywhere in the XJs though. :( What's the swap possibility on the ZJ visors to the XJ/MJ?
  11. No Homelink on that one Joe. The little black globe-looking sensor is an infrared receiver for keyless entry. Oh, and which Halloween costume did you wear?
  12. Most definitely OBDI Joe. Do you know what functions are on your ZJ console? Got a p/n? Look like this? I was going to put in one of the mini ZJ overhead consoles like this for the Homelink and ambient temp functions, but came up with other solutions.
  13. Good to hear Boilermaker. I guess there's still a little memory left up there.
  14. I researched this long ago and am depending on activating long dormant brain cells. :D Speed/distance functions (MPG, distance until empty, trip timer, etc.) won't work for the 91-92 OBDI MJs because the 97+ overhead consoles use the info provided from the ODBII CCD buss to function. Of course the the ambient temp, compass, dimmer lights will work fine on our trucks. Some of the late OBDI ZJs (93 and up I think?) had some of the above speed/distance functions because the ZJ ECUs provided a primitive CCU buss. The OBDI XJs/MJs did not. I remember reading quite awhile ago that someone was able to wire in a ZJ overhead console AND use a ZJ ECU in an OBDI XJ and all the console functions worked. Wasn't Boilermaker trying to do this here? :hmm:

Have to admit, they look pretty good from that angle. The KJs froghead-like front end looks right at home.
  16. The MJ belts with the pilar retractor assembly are the hard ones to find as they are MJ-specific. The short inboard belts w. the buckles are the same for XJs and MJs and are everywhere.
  17. If you have the column shift w. auto tranny, that's the shift indicator wire. It clips onto the steering column collar. Just slide it off. BTW, if this is what you have, I'll take the old cluster if you want to sell it. :D
  18. makes sense. except that the vast majority of MJs made had renix in them. :D Okay, good point since MJs died in 92. Go over to NAXJA and the other forums that cover the full Jeep range and check the HELP ME!s regarding starting, idling, stumbling, hesitating, dieing out, etc. etc. At least 10 to 1 in favor of Renix sensor junk. C'mon Pete, it was designed as a last gasp AMC alliance w. Renault and was a bastardized kluge ignition system and still is. I can see the point of carrying on the tradition of beating the Renix dead horse for tradition's sake or for maintaining a classic vehicle's original status for some, but none of the Renix era stuff will ever be a classic.
  19. Agree with most all you say Dave, and what you say kind of proves my point - experience is king. But unfortunately, not all of us do what you do for a living. I get by, but I'm not a tech. On those rare occasions when I know when I'm licked on a problem and although I hate doing it, because I don't have the test equipment or "specialized" tools required to fix a problem, I'm forced bring it to someone who can. While I watch and learn so it won't happen again. I'm not a Ford lover, but my first car was a 53 flathead Ford Victoria, so I have a soft spot. :D Had a lot of Fords since then (and GMs, Studebakers, and lot's of foreign stuff) and the Fords were all okay. The best reliability for me were the 6-cylinder Benzs, fairly simple and logical to work on, but repairs were expensive at times depending on the parts you needed. Your Renix reliability is all based on your tech experience. The Renix system is a hodgepodge un-logical bastardized system with too many sensors that all interact with the others. I've had many, don't like them, and will not have another. The 91+ HOs for me are mostly cake to repair. Just take a look at all the HELP ME! requests that come in on CC, it's about a 20:1 ratio in favor of Renix problems.
  20. I'll say what Jeepco said - I don't know why I'm posting on this thread; guess because everybody else is. :D First of all, the man exited the forum and Jeeps with class, something some of you clowns know nothing about. He was unlucky (or more to the point, unexperienced) enough to pick up a poorly maintained MJ. But he sunk a lot of time and $$ into it, persevered, but never could make it reliable. He tired of beating on a dead horse both financially and emotionally, and decided to cut his losses. He's an older gentleman, needed reliable transportation, so I applaud his decision. Anyone who says MJs (especially the Renix junk) are reliable vehicles as compared even to Fords is living in a dream world and on crack. They are not. They need constant TLC, parts are getting more difficult to find and more expensive. And they are difficult to work on if you don't know what you are doing. One forms opinions about vehicle reliability through experience in previous ownership. And this older gentleman went back to what served him well in the past. What gets me is these twerps that post up the merits of Jeeps because they have some rustbucket they picked up for cheap. The MJs are not reliable; there is always some nitpicking thing that needs fixin. All that said, I still love them, will always own at least one, and it will be well maintained.

  22. enu? Wrong. rusted junker? Wrong. Those axles are axtually (pun intended) Mopar NOS, left over from the 01 XJ assembly lines. They are available only in 3.55 ratios, and are offered by many online vendors. Some are selling these for less that $850. Too bad they were not D44s. :(
  23. I got my hoses from NAPA at about $25 apiece four years ago - so far so good. They were not the Dorman (Chinese) brand, but you never know the manufacturing source unless you get OEM. And even then :hmm:

Opinion: KJs, KKs, Patriots (MK74), ad nauseum are all designed to appeal to the soccer Moms and soccer Mom wannabes in my mind. None of them turn me on - at all. The various Grand ZJs, WJs don't either. They all look like they were created by imported Chinese 2500 design engineers. I haven't liked any newer Jeep stuff since the 01 XJ was canned and would never consider any of them. Freaking crossovers.... Just my humble opinion.
