HOrnbrod replied to stoney88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

Wow! Crazy rock-em sock-em race. Dale Jr. pulled it off, maybe 20 cars running at the end. Sorry y'all missed it.

In case anyone is interested: The Daytona 500 has restarted and is now showing on Fox.

Kinda figured that. -
2Wd Front Spindle Is Shot. What Options?

I think you'll have to do the other side the same way................ -
Just to follow up on this, I did fab up an extension cable from the stock MAP sensor harness on the firewall and ran it to a new throttle body mounted MAP sensor from a 96 XJ OBDII model (p/n 56028303). 1996 and up throttle bodies are a bolt-on mod for 91-92 HO MJs. Before installing it, I verified that the voltage outputs based on vacuum applied were the same as the firewall mounted 87-95 OBDI MAP sensors. The install took about an hour including making up the extension cable. In case it didn't work correctly, I used Weatherpack connectors so I could return to the old MAP easily. When complete, I started it up (it idled fine), waited for open-to-closed loop transition was complete, ran it around the block a few times, then shut it off and checked for any fault codes. There were none. I've run it now a few hundred miles with zero problems. It even seems to idle smoother than it did before. It's a cleaner install for the MAP w/o that long vacuum line from the firewall to the intake manifold that seems to get pulled off accidentally once in awhile when working in the area. And the newer throttle body MAPs are easier to find and cheaper too. The pics show the throttle body and MAP mounted on my 1999+ intake manifold, but it will fit and work just fine for the older pre-1999 intake manifolds too. Win - win mod I think. It's too bad the Renix throttle body has no provisions for mounting the MAP sensor, because all the MAP sensors from 87-95 (p/n 33000153) were the same and the 56028303 MAP would work just fine on a Renix too if you could mount it.

Sorry Joe, have to disagree on the USA hockey team's performance against Finland. They would normally beat those guys nine out of ten games. After the Finns scored first, they looked like they were just going through the motions. Sure they played their hearts out against Canada yesterday, then had to suck it up against Finland today, and they just couldn't do it. Maybe they were gassed, and I'm sure someone will be whining about that. It just showed me they didn't really give a damn about the bronze.

Five to zip. They laid down after Finland scored their first goal. Terrible........

^^ This is the key. Their customer service people (who I'm sure are multitasking and have more work than they can handle) are most likely overworked and underpaid. KISS..............

I've been ordering stuff from Team Cherokee for years, mostly NOS things that you can't find anymore or stuff the dealer charges 3X more for the same item. I've only had one problem; an aftermarket power antenna i ordered from them. Installed it; it lasted a week before it froze up. I called, they sent another, same thing happened. I called they refunded my $$ and sent another to try. More junk. They admitted I was not the only one to have problems and they took them off their inventory. I was okay with that, all it cost me was some time. One week later a NOS Mopar power antenna showed up in a factory box free of charge from them with a note thanking me for testing the other antennas. The antenna incident was quite awhile ago though. Just recently I ordered some NOS power window plates from them correct for a 2DR MJ/XJ I never could find before. Again, no problems. :dunno:

It started when kids born in the seventies became adults, and has become progressively worse every decade. :peek:

Yep - one shot and done for the USA the whole game. Tough loss. :( Go get the Swedes on Sunday.
-
About the middle of the second period now and it's Canada up 1-0. Canada has about three times as many shots on goal as the USA, and Quick is stopping most everything so far. If the USA doesn't generate some offense soon, it's going to be a long game........

D35 Disc Brake Conversion
HOrnbrod replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, you'll need to pull the axle and bearing. If you send me an email address I can sent the Teraflex Ford Explorer disk brake installation manual for older Jeeps - it's not on their website anymore. The procedure will be the same as converting to ZJ disk brakes. -
Agree with all the above in that order. Just don't pick Japan's figure skater Mao Asada for #3.

D35 Disc Brake Conversion
HOrnbrod replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The preload spacer is required because the ZJ backing plate is not the same thickness as the drum brake backing plate. So to make up the difference and keep the axle seals (not bearings) preload correct the spacers are required. Otherwise it's leak city. The dimensions for my D44 (your non-c-clip D35 should be the same) were .225" thick x by 2.90" OD x 2.45 ID. But you should do your own measurements to be certain. Your favorite local machine shop can fab them up or you can get them from Teraflex for about $6/ea. -
Cruiser's Mostly Renix Tips

Cruiser, I'd like an appetizer of teriyaki beef with wonton soup, a main course of shrimp w/ lobster sauce, and fried banana for desert. And a six-pack of Miller HL to wash it all down. -
I happen to agree with that statement. Always have regarding the Olympics. So do all the athletes deep inside. However, it's such a fine line between gold and silver / bronze. Any event that utilizes human judges is inconsistent. Today you might win; tomorrow you might lose depending what some judge had for breakfast or had a hangover. Depending on the event, winning gold or another medal could be a micro-second or a micro-inch. Weather has a huge effect on event results. And so does luck. A good example is the women's hockey game. In the final minute of the USA / Canada game, Canada down 2-1, the Canadian ladies pulled their goalie. A USA player intercepted a pass and took a long off-balance shot at the open net while going down. It hit the goal post and careened left and out. One-half inch to the right and the puck would have been a goal - USA wins the gold. I still feel gold is what counts most - just pointing out the extremely fine line (and luck) that determines who gets the gold.

Just in: Canada 3, USA 2 in womens hockey. USA scores the first two goals, then forgets about offense and starts skating backwards. Right then I knew it was over. Canada scores two goals in the last three minutes of regulation to tie it up and force a sudden death overtime. O/T is more of the same; Canada attacking, USA skating backwards. About eight minutes in, Canada scores - it's over. Canada wins the gold. WTF do teams go into protect mode when they get the lead? It never works in hockey, football, or anything else. I blame this on the US coaches. Congrats Canada, you guys deserve the gold.

D35 Disc Brake Conversion

^^ This. The non c-clip D35 uses the same preload spacers as the D44. The axle flange holes and spacing are also the same. This is not the case in a c-clip D35. Rusty pic example: -
Be advised that if the truck never had a factory front skid plate installed, the front mounting studs will not be there, only the holes. If this is the case you will have to weld in nuts or use nutserts to mount the plate.

The column shift lever is splined, not threaded. Gluing/epoxing a heavy cast iron fake grenade to the lever is not a good idea (forcing myself not to say stupid idea). It'll work for awhile, then over time the combination of vibes and knob weight you will create an auto shifter, possibly not shifting when you want it to. Forget about it..........
