  1. I have a 30 minute (highway) commute. I like it, gives me time to mentally prepare and get a plan on the way down, and time to unwind before I get home. Congratulations on the job.
  2. Getting the v8 in isnt too bad. Chasing out all the weak links is another story. Take what you think you are going to spend and double it. Cooling is my major issue right now, I'm not sure that I don't have a timing issue or vaccum advance issue causing some of my troubles. Turns heads everytime it starts up however for whatever thats worth. Oh and getting headers to fit is another story too. Goodluck, it is still a fun project  . I wish I would have taken the time to locate an AMC 401 to keep it jeep in hindsight .
  3. :dunno: I have no sisters so I guess I never had the temptation
  4. Norwalk, IA is the closest to me so far at just over a two hour drive. There is a just jeeps of omaha but they are mainly wrangler guys.
  5. My wifes uncle works with Frank, Vicki's husband. Have met Frank once but thats about it.
  6. Interesting. The only twins that I can think of from that time that fit the description, would be the Alvis twins. But they are much older than me. I'm sure nothing has changed in woodbine since you were here last.
  7. I live outside of Woodbine, IA. It is like 45 miles up highway 30 from Omaha. I work in Denison, IA. Everybody around me is die hard chevy or ford guys and there offroad rigs are john deeres :wall:.
  8. I have owned jeeps since the beginning but am relatively new to the comanche scene, I was trying to get a quick feel for who on here lives in Iowa. The closest ORV park to me is timber ridge, and you have to be a member to drive on the property. I have been on trails in colorado in borrowed or rented jeeps but never anything of my own. I am jealous of you guys that live so close to the mountains. I need someone who knows lifted jeeps that I can learn from. This forum is great and has been very helpful.
  9. I have wussed out. I'm going to mount the better of the two up as a spare and sell the other to someone else as a spare. Has anyone ever run the Dunlop Mud Rovers I think they are called? Sams had a set of special order 35x12.50x15s sitting in the corner and they have good aggressive looking tread and the price was only $175 a tire.
  10. I just picked up a pair of 35x12.50x15 BFG mall terrains to replace the now worn out rear tires on my truck(damn V8  ). The tread is great probably 80-90%, but that is where it ends. There is cracking in the tread and sidewalls. My truck is not a daily driver, but will make 30 to 60 mile highway trips occasionally. Also has anyone experienced a blowout on the highway on 35s? I just want to know if these will be alright until I get my new tires down the road.
  11. Took my car to Sams Club to get the most of the free lifetime balance and rotation of my tires and go about my shopping. Walk back to get my keys and the tire guy asks if I liked my comanche. For a split second I was confused trying to figure out how this guy would know this information. Turns out that I had a comanche club card sitting in my passenger seat since I just got the stuff in the mail  . Long story short I may be picking up a new comanche in the near future
  12. CC Swag installed:
  13. Just received my comanche club swag in the mail...patiently waiting till quitting time to go home and install my new decals, with a cold beverage in my new CC coozie.
  14. I have a 700R4 behind mine that has held up thus far (knock on wood)
  15. Ron Davis radiators wanted $649 + shipping. I'm getting essentially the same thing shipped for $350 all aluminum 2 core 1" tubes custom built for superior radiator
  16. Try this place. I buy alot of stuff from here and the prices are always good. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
  17. Here is one I found today http://desmoines.en.craigslist.org/cto/1130688309.html This one tops the list today for me  , looks nice but being on a trailer is not a good sign unless the trailer comes with it  . http://mankato.craigslist.org/cto/1124632181.html
  18. Damn pontoons. They weren't even smart enough to steer the damn boat or raise the motor. I should have left them float. Otto after a full day of swimming
  19. Thanks for all the info, it has been very helpful  . Hopefully more is added if seen fit and this can become a tool for others wanting info on a V8 radiator swap since all the key search words are in the title. I went ahead and ordered the superior custom all aluminum radiator, and the guy assured me that if this doesnt do the trick nothing will. I am hoping that this doesnt just mean nothing will work :fool: . I am still going to look into the ZJ Rad. I just couldnt find much that was designed for a V8 but was narrow enough for a cherokee. I will post up pics of the progress. Also what are people paying for used taurus fans? Everyplace I have checked wants around $50 for a used fan? :fs1:
  20. Before anyone says search..I did, but what are the weak points of the 86 MJ for some reason I remember the engine compartment being smaller or something like that, is there anything else. All I know about the jeep at this point is that it is it runs its a 4x4 and a manual transmission.
  21. Thats a deep damn hole :fool:
  22. Back in the day before I wised up........My parents had a long driveway which once you plowed the snow several times had nice big banks on both sides. It was an unusual winter in iowa and we got alot of wet snow towards the end of winter..anyways...came home from a friends house alittle on the shouldnt be driving side :ack: turned to sharp and ended up on top of the bank on the side of the driveway in my stock 89 jeep xj. In the state I was in I got out with the vehicle in 4wd and watched it spinning the tires on its own on idle  :clapping: . My jeeps tires were 3ft off the ground all the way around. Luckily my parents were out of town that weekend, but i woke up the next morning and walked outside and couldnt figure out where my jeep was...walked the driveway and then saw it. I wish I would have taken a picture. Man the stupid stuff you pull when you are young, granted I am only 27 now but...... So i spent I don't remeber how long chipping the ice from under the jeep just to get it down. Lesson learned I guess :smart: That is when I knew I was stuck
