Need a New CDI box....
87ComancheLB replied to Beachbum1236's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the truck was running fine until you hit some @$$ big potholes, then it leads me to believe something got disconnected or more or likely got shorted to the chassis and discharged the battery or something got damaged. I will be looking for that, before changing out any electronics components. -

Are you getting fuel in the combustion chamber? are your plugs moist with fuel when you pull them? -

87ComancheLB replied to offroader461's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sometimes you can tell that a converter is clogged because you don't go any faster when you push the gas pedal. Also, there usually is a noticeable drop in gas mileage associated with a clogged catalytic converter. A partially clogged converter often acts like an engine governor, limiting the actual RPMs to a fast idle. A totally clogged converter causes the engine to quit after a few minutes because of all the increased exhaust back pressure. :brows: -

If it used to at least run before you did the distributor swap, but now just cranks over sounds like maybe your timing is off, since your getting fuel and spark. Did you check for cracks in your exhaust manifold also been known to cause stalling problems. -
Hey sometime when I do a search it may show up to 20 pages, yet when I'm finish with the 1st and want to go to the next page I get this message. No topics or posts met your search criteria

So Eagle is it worth getting since I already pulled it and I know what is involve to do the swap and converting it over to R134, since R12 is being obsolete, and is very expensive if found. The system might be good it did let out a good amount of freon, hoses etc looked in good shape same as the compressor and condenser, Oops I guess releasing it into the atmosphere was illegal. What was strange was the date code on the box, said 2002? I'll probably get the rest of it tomorrow since it looked fairly new.

Hey guys as you know I wish I had air so today I went down to the local yard and pulled the box out of a late model 4.0 HO cherokee took about 45 minutes it wasn't that bad, system was still under pressure and looked fairly new on the box dated 2002 my question on the compressor it says recharged with R12 I thought it was switched over to R134? I left it behind but they will hold it for me they wanted $80 for the box $25 for the controls I told them I will get back with them tomorrow, looks like I can probably get the whole system going for maybe around $300 isn't there some items that cannot be reuse and must be new? Also let me know if anything else I might have forgotten.

Electrical nightmare
87ComancheLB replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey WahooSteeler, I'm in the same boat what up with these weird problems. I just change out my valve cover gasket and I notice yesterday it was running kind of rough, so today I started her up seems to be running ok now, did have a hard time starting this morning like the battery ran down a little, but it fired right up ran it for a while to check for oil leaks and to recharge the battery. When I tried to start her up again I got nothing, all electrical working ok. So I thought maybe my battery crap out or something so I decided to take the battery out of avalanche swapped it out, but still nothing like the starter solenoid not getting any juice. I havent checked the fusible link but why would that have opened up? :headpop: Did you ever figure out the problem? -

87ComancheLB replied to Maveric's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:hmm: I have not seen one without and electric fan. Do you have AC...maybe the ones with no AC are without a fan?? Anyway...I know there are easy ways to make the fan work with a manual switch, but I wanted it to work the way it was designed so it was a real pain to figure out and definitley not worth the effort. Taz, If you don't have AC there is no electric fan. I don't have AC and just have the mech fan My 87 came with a electric fan, but no AC. -
Adding air conditioner universal kit?
87ComancheLB replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am not sure how many people on forums have installed our systems into a comanche. We have done one and the pictures are included. Please take a look and ask any questions you have. The system we used in the Jeep is not on Jeepair.com it is on our other website nostalgicairparts.com. This is a universal system that we used to put into a comanche. The system takes about two days to install, and will include all the necessary parts to add the a/c. Thanks again Jon Image Not Found WTF? Image Not Found Cut firewall? Image Not Found Uses same old controls to handle air? Image Not Found Passenger side only? Image Not Found Junkyard looking better everyday! :brows: -

Adding air conditioner universal kit?
87ComancheLB replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I might take another look at the JY, I just figured after they nickle and dime me for all the parts would have been close to the price of the universal kit. These guys prices are not so cheap as you guys back east and your all you can carry for $50 bucks. I wish we had deals like here you could make a killing on ebay just doing that. :brows: I never got a response from Jon for pictures of the universal kit, and all the specifics. -
I was just wondering if the design ever changed in the later models that can be adapted to the MJ? I remember going through quite a bit of slave cylinder rebuild kits there for awhile, were the rubber piston cup would collaspe and allow fluids to leak into the cab, seems like they knew they had a problem because the next one I bought (3rd time) had a double piston rubber cups, but I still didn't trust it so placed a small spring around behind the rubber piston so it couldn't fold back and cause another leak, so far it's been holding up for quite a few years now anyone else experience this?

Adding air conditioner universal kit?

Thanks John, would be nice, sounds like they have a lot of experience 35 yrs, but Eagle right I havent seen any distribution in their kits only those that small vents that hang low. I asked Jon for some pictures of the setup and all the specifics. -
Adding air conditioner universal kit?
87ComancheLB replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree I will asked them for specifics. I don't want some mickey mouse looking setup but if it looks almost factory I would have thought it came with a new distribution box to be install which requires to removing or sitting aside the dash. JY might be a cheaper route but then again you don't know what your getting and requires more work. -
I need AC because I'm cooking out here! I went to the local JY they looked bad plus the horror of removing all the parts in the freaking hot sun. I decided to try these guys, I emailed them for a quote on my 87 comanche, seem reasonably price. I got the time to take my time. lol Anyone here ever use their products? http://www.jeepair.com/ We have a universal heat and a/c system that works in the comanche. We actually did the same Jeep here a few months ago. The kit cost $895.00 plus shipping. Thanks Jon

Correct brake booster?
87ComancheLB replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Stock close system, right now it's just sitting in there wedge between the air box and MC, not bolted down, it's not going anywhere. I didn't want to drill new holes if I'm planning this mod, but I may have to.
