  1. How does rim width affect wheel base? Obviously it affects track width, but wheel base does not change with the size of your rims or tires, or with backspacing.
  2. The only track bar I have experience with (besides stock) came from MO, and the heim went bad on it after just over a year.
  3. RRO does not have a very good reputation. RE is considered quite good. But I can't make judgement without seeing tha parts in person.
  4. Since you're going to mess with the alignment, it can't hurt to get a tape measure and double check your toe in to make sure it's correct, and adjust it if not. Toe in is controlled with the sleeve on the tie rod. Should be 1/16"-1/8" IIRC, but some sources say 0.
  5. Steering wheel is adjusted with the sleeve on the drag link.
  6. Trying to get it ready for an invite only ride in southern Ohio this weekend (and tenting in the snow). Popped a bead to remove gravel from between the rim and the tire, then adjusted pressure in my tires (they ranged from 10 to 40psi  ), rotated the tires, hooked vent tube back to front differential, drained chocolate milk from front axle and replaced with oil, checked rear axle but it was fine, installed new passenger mirror, McGuyvered driver mirror and ran out of time to fix my exhaust, so for the time being I rigged a glass pack straight to the front pipe and held it up with a piece of wire. Immediately after posting this I find out the ride's been cancelled...
  7. What didn't go as planned?
  8. After replacing a bad alternator I cleaned the snow off it, as well as the ice underneath the snow (water crossing deeper than the bed floor a week and a half ago, with snow already in the back) out of the bed. Broke both my snow shovel and broom in the process. But now I can drive it to work tomorrow, park it in the heated shop without flooding it, and rotate the tires and change gear oil in the axles after work to get ready for an invitation only weekend on private property. It'll be fun setting up my tent on 20+ inches of snow. I think I'll leave the broken mirrors until Monday. Did somebody say something about spring? I got more snow on the ground than I've ever seen since I moved here 17 years ago. With a bit of luck I'll find my lost keys back in June when the snow finally melts. Anyway, back on topic, I had to use a crow bar to put the tailgate back on. Turns out I got a new dent on the passenger side lower rear corner, pushing the tail gate hinge piece in a good two inches. No clue where that happened. Probably a chunk of floating ice, or when I fell through the ice.
  9. $90? That's ridiculous. I have my u bolts custom made to order by a local spring shop for right around $7 a piece. I specify length, width, round or square, and thickness. Then wait about 15 minutes and I'm done.
  10. I love pap. Closest is 20 minutes from here, next one about 40, and two more a bit over an hour. Problem is I'm going through mirrors faster than they get new vehicles due to ^*$%^#% tree magnets where I wheel. Closest two are pretty much out of door mirrors.
  11. Got the Cherokee stuck in the mess the snow plow left in front of my driveway. 4wd and snow tires let me down for the first time ever. Then had fun getting the Manche out as it was pretty much blocked in by the Cherokee. Eventually had it out and a few tugs later she was free. Got both vehicles parked in the drive only to find out I lost my keys somewhere. Looked everywhere I've been since lunch when I last saw them, still unfound. :(
  12. Axle U bolts should never be reused. They stretch. They are designed to stretch only once. New ones only cost about $7 a piece.
  13. D44 rear axle. Have yet to see a factory installed one in person.
  14. Removed the bad alternator only to find out both my relocation brackets had broken. At least now I know why the belt kept getting loose. So 18 gauge sheet metal is not strong enough. I will make a new straight bracket out of 3/16 plate I have laying around, but have no clue what I'm going to do for the angled one yet.
  15. Front bumper is dented, rear bumper is bent, after market trailer hitch, and a $50 brake controller make this a $999 truck at best. Maybe the extra 9 must be a typo.
  16. Not TO the MJ, but FOR the MJ went to pull-a-part in Both Akron, and Canton. (Akron admission got me into Canton for free :D ). Scored driver and passenger side mirrors, 2 almost brand new air filters, passenger vent window assembly, and a full gauge cluster with tach for the XJ. Now I just need the oil pressure and coolant temp sensors to make it work. Akron yard had an 89 SWB Sport truck, but all MJ specific parts were gone already safe for the fuel sender. And it had been mangled by somebody that evidently just needed the pump
  17. Looking good. Almost done, too!
  18. In the process of bartering a custom (built to order) pub table for a brand spanking new awesome custom front winch bumper from JawzJP Customs
  19. At around 10mpg they're not that terribly bad. Assuming diesel is about the same as gas, about the same as a 454 Suburban. Guy wheeled one at JS. Got stuck in a mud pit, but got himself out with a 40 ton PTO winch. He was either getting unstuck, or uprooting the tree. That one was for sale at the time for $3500 on military tires. But to get some better Michelins on it at $1000 per tire for ten wheels plus a spare would be $11,000 in rubber.
  20. Tired of snow. Ready for summer.
  21. I ran 33x12.50s for a few weeks with 4.5" and adjustable upper and lower control arms. It was almost impossible to get it adjusted to clear both the front and the rear of the fenders while steering in parking lots. Adding 1.75" spacers made a world of difference.
  22. Hit a few good pot holes at 70mph to be sure ;) If new lcas fixed it, I'm guessing the bushings were shot on the old stock ones. Good job on fixing it.
  23. Can't remember any more. All I remember is it popped off the old one, and fit on the new one without modification.
  24. The rear axle is not centered on the leafs. It's more like a 40/60 split. That means for 2" of lift the shackles need to be not 4, but 5" longer. I don't know of anybody that makes a shackle that length. Some companies mistakenly believe that an XJ 2" lift shackle lifts an MJ 2", but that is wrong. An XJ 2" lift shackle is 4" longer than a stock XJ shackle, but only 2" (?) longer than an MJ shackle, and thus only 2" longer than a stock Comanche shackle. This means it would lift a Comanche maybe 3/4".
  25. My 87 has a build date of November 86, which I assume means it's an early one. Original cluster was full gauges minus tach, speedo ticked every 1 mph. I switched it out for a full gauge cluster with tach, and the newer speedo ticked every 2.5 mph out of an 89 Cherokee. Swapped right in with and had the correct speedo hookup.
