It looks like they offer a "Smoothie SLS Bumper: Exterior fabrication is a totally smooth steel finish." http://www.detoursusa.com/xjbumper.php Not sure how these would work on an MJ, but I like the look, just not the price... SW2

As an Uber Geek, I have used a Freeware Program called "Easy Thumbnails" that seems to do a good job making Avatars and such... http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/index.php SW2

Oxygen Sensor Removal Questions
SuperWade2 replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From underneath the MJ, a Big Open ended wrench (7/8" or 13/16" I think) on the Nut end of the thing and my old one just unscrewed... Unplugged the wire from above first. I didn't see a shield or a need for anything drastic like busting anything off. Didn't need PB Blaster or anything.... Same 89 MJ with 4.0 :wrench: SW2 -
Seems pretty "beefy" to me, but I don't have much to compare it too. Let me know if you want a pic of something more "specific". http://www.leishman.net/Photos/Jeep/Macspack/index.html

Yah, as soon as I get my little ones down for bed, I'll take some pics... WooHoo... exciting New Years Eve for me...

I just got the same Mac "Ultra Pack"... I'm borrowing a 16 Flatbed to pull my TJ to a run in February... I plan on getting my own trailer at some point this year... hopefully. SW2

need a switch solution?
SuperWade2 replied to Oizarod115's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Pretty Sweet... I have the sPOD/Source in my TJ (http://www.4x4spod.com) and would love something like that for the MJ Too... SW2 -
I tried to get a Tach Dash Cluster out of an 89 XJ (4.0L) that had about 186K on the dial, but darned if I couldn't get the thing out... I did all the screws and it was moving arround, but couldn't get it out past the steering column.

Nice...sounds like you did better than me at the JY... I went down to the local Pick and Pull (Moss Landing, CA) this AM for the first time. They actually had an 88 Manche, but it was pretty worked and stripped already. 2.5L with very little left and long bed with a Tomy Lift Gate that looked hosed. Inside was pretty much gutted. From a couple XJ's they had, I did pull a few dash switch panels, some with 2 switches and a couple with 1. I did get 1 Dome Light from the Manche (not in great shape), and a Door Light Switch (kinda rusty), and a Middle Vent that didn't appear too "floppy", and a couple clock Covers (all the XJ clocks were gone or busted). Overall, not really that great of a haul... I was actually looking for a couple things for my 2003 Tahoe, and they didn't have "Squat" for newer stuff. SW2

1 piece axle conversion for 86 d30?
SuperWade2 replied to Scott86mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got similar Outer Tube Seals from AlloyUSA on my TJ...Sure seems easier than opening up the diff and trying to get that inner axle out... How much "overfill" are you talking about? SW2 -
1 piece axle conversion for 86 d30?
SuperWade2 replied to Scott86mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't mean to hi-jack, but a similar query.. If I wanted to toss the Stock D30 shafts from my 99TJ into my 89 MJ (both 3.07's) I would have to replace the Inner-Seal as the article in that link describes? I don't have a great reason to do so, other than I'm going to be doing the ball joints and will have everything torn apart anyhow and the D30 shafts from my TJ have 170K less miles of wear and tear on them and are just sitting in a box in my garage since they got yanked for some AlloyUSA Chromoly shafts when I upgraded to 4.56... SW2 -
I saw that in my Parts PDF, but my Label on my 89 didn't look like they described and the 3 Digit code they mention didn't match anything on my Tag.

Ball Joints / Front Steering Components
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Last Night, I ordered the MOOG's off of Amazon.Com actually... was cheaper than a few of the other online places, "No Tax' ;) and Free 2 Day Shipping... Probably won't to get to the task until Mid-Jan anyhow since I have to leave for a Vegas business trip early next week. Wade -
Ball Joints / Front Steering Components
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cool... At least initially, it might be nice just to do a direct swap of the 18 year old/205K mi steering stuff in the MJ for 9 year old/38K mi that is still in good condition from my TJ. Also gives me incentive to get the Currie setup on the TJ...Which I'm upgrading for the "beef" more than any issues with mine. Since the TJ is primary Off-Road Vehicle right now... If I'm going to be doing the Ball Joints anyhow might be able to do everything at once... maybe... Might toss on new Shocks on the MJ while I have the whole front end tore up anyhow :brows: SW2 -

What to look out for?????????
SuperWade2 replied to shdbriding's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought they switched midyear in 89? My 89 was built in June 1989 (per the sticker on the Driver door) and has the AX15... -
2 questions... Q1: I think my Ball Joints on my MJ are in need of replacement. I have the Ball Joint Press kit/Jeep Sockets on Order. Is there an On-line place to order the replacement ball joints? Is there a Brand Preference, or any that might last longer than others? Part Numbers? My selection of local Auto Parts stores is pretty poor, so I get most of my Jeep stuff thru the internets... Q2: Is there a difference between the Stock Steering components (Tie Rod/DragLink, etc) between the D30 on my 1999 TJ and the 89 MJ? I have some looseness feeling in my MJ TRE's, etc and was just curious if I were to pull the stock stuff from my TJ to install a Currie HD Steering setup, if any of that stuff could be reused in my 89 MJ. My 99 TJ has only 38K Miles so the stuff is still in good condition, I am just looking for an excuse to upgrade it to the Currie HD Steering setup. Thanks Wade

I got a room full of HAPPY girls (Well my Twin 2 Year Old's and my wife) playing with a HUGE dollhouse and other toys... That's all a Christmas present a guy really needs.. I guess me buying my MJ a couple weeks ago was my Christmas present to myself... SW2 MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ok, that's what I was thinking, but could find no mention of APA as a paint code on the 1989 Parts List PDF I have, or on sites like PaintScratch.com SW2

This is the only panel/sticker I can find inside the engine compartment, and it doesn't really match up with any of the tag identifiers. Just looking for the correct paint/interior body panel codes...

Per this link the 6th digit 6 is only for the 91+ models. AAAAAAARGH, who knows. But it sounds like it's a regulation Eliminator.......... ??? 6 - Trim Package (1989) 1 * "S" (E) 2 * Base (L) 3 * Pioneer/Islander (M) 4 * Sahara (H) 5 * Laredo/Grand (P) 6 * Eliminator (S) 7 * Limited (X)
