Making progress. The motor swap is 100% complete. I even fired it up for about three seconds until I noticed a three foot long jet of fuel coming out of the pressure regulator. Turns out the o-rings are next to impossible to find. I really don’t want to spend $50 on a new regulator just to get the o-rings, anybody have a source or part number? Also got started on the suspension drop. I used the rear coils off a ZJ to drop it down 2”s in the front. It’s almost sitting on the bumpstops now so I’ll need to trim those up, but I’m pretty happy with the look. We’ll see if the coils are too soft or not. Alternatively if they are I can cut the stock coils. Used so drop blocks for an S-10 that I got off eBay for the rear. It’s fairly level from front to back, pretty happy with the look. Still need to dial it in a little more, align the toe angle and shorten the swaybar links, but considering the pace I’ve been going on this thing I’m happy to have gotten this far. Before: After:

I stopped dicking around and ordered the clutch kit, the difference between the new and old friction discs was about .5mm on average, but I'm glad I replaced everything hopefully won't have to touch it again for a long time. Ended up replacing the input seal on the AX-15 as well while I had it apart. Also drilled and tapped the head for the temp sender, that was a little nerve racking but went super smoothly. Got the two halves mated back together and all the accessories, ignition and fuel components from the '92 installed. Just waiting on a new crank seal, harmonic balancer and CPS and this thing should be ready to go back in. Then on to suspension and the rear end.

Finally getting back to paying some attention to this little truck. I've been daily driving it for over a year and a half now with zero problems. I rolled and totaled my XJ on a wheeling trip over new years and ended up getting a 2007 4Runner Sport Edition to replace it. That will get daily driver duties now so I can keep the MJ in the garage and actually work on it. And it needs some love. Poor XJ (invest in a roll cage): The Replacement: The MJ failed smog three weeks ago due to high NOx. I'm troubleshooting the problem, but it's kind of a moot point because I'm swapping my 125,000 mile XJ motor into it anyways. Other plans for it include finally getting around to trying to lower it a few inches, fixing the dents on the passenger side and eventually a new paint job and Eliminator body stickers. Gonna swap in a D44 with 3.73 gearing and a trac lock, and freshen up all the suspension and steering joints and bushings as well. I hope to start updating this thread more frequently with pics and questions, I WILL have some questions for the gurus when it come time to swap the motor over.

Well, this will be the only time I need to do it, unless I sell it. My vehicles are registered in a county that only require testing upon change of ownership. What? I had no idea that was a thing here. Getting ready to take mine back for round two of smog testing next weekend.

1990 Pioneer project "Swap Over"

Looking good Jon, I like it. Is it a long bed? It's gonna look good once you get a lift and those 33's on it. I saw that truck on CL with the Seadoo deal, time to hit the lake! -
Hah! Did you get an MJ?

Lookin good Bo!

Long time, no update. I actually did this a while ago, stripped the flares down to the original Colorado Red. They aren't in the best of shape, but look okay for now. Used acetone like I did for the rest of the paint stripping, worked well. Now everything is back to OEM colors for better or worse. I have dreams of getting it painted a sweet metallic gray, but that's not in the cards right now. Next step is to get the dents pulled and get a quote for Line-X. The DIY bedliner that the previous owner installed is fading off bad. Also picked up this MJ44 from a local NAXJA/CC member. The gears and spiders were toast but that's okay. I picked up a set of 3.73's with a trac-lok from a Wrangler guy. Should be a nice pairing with the 29" tires that are currently on there. The D30 has 3.07's in it now. The axle didn't look like this when I got it... full of leaves, grease and cobwebs. Going to get some discs off an 8.8 at the next half off day.

I know, just have to get the dents pulled on the passenger bedside and door then I'll order up the Eliminator decals. Need to start looking for a good paint less dent repair guy.

Grille with more coats of paint, plus I shot it with some clear: Also hit the tail lights with some rubbing compound and shot them with clear as well. Plus my jeepsticker.com decal which I actually put on a while ago. :chillin:

I always heard no towing or heavy off-roading for the first 500 miles and change the gear oil at that mark as well. This is from two different gear specialists.

Man, awesome looking truck, that rust scares me though. I wish my Eliminator had the matching flares and side decal on it still when I bought it. Good luck with your decision!

Been a while since I worked on this, mostly because I was getting my XJ ready for a Moab trip and got married, in that order, but finally had some time to wrench on it the last two weekends. Installed a few parts that I had sitting around for a while; Hella H4 lamps and an old Putco harness that I had laying around, a ZJ 28mm swaybar and the master cylinder and booster out of a '96 XJ. The truck brakes and corners so much better now, it's a lot of fun to drive. I'd love to get the Addco rear swaybar as well to tighten it up even more in the corners, but no way I'm dropping $200 on it. Also been getting around to this for a while. The previous owner painted the grille, headlight bezels, flares and cowl cover black. It looks fine but I'm a big fine of color matched parts and wanted to bring it back to stock. I found a cowl cover in Colorado Red at the junkyard and swapped it out but was having trouble finding the rest of the pieces so I ordered up some spray from automotivetouchup.com and went to town: Before: During (I figured out why he painted them, faded and chipped): After: Also, I finally fixed my dash light problem. Turned out when I pulled my carpet to check for rust I shorted a wire running underneath the carpet. Nice to finally have dash lights again. I'll be changing the rear main seal in a few weeks and plan to throw some ZJ rear coils and a modified MJ pack on to bring it a little closer to the ground...stay tuned.

I paid $2,750 for my 92 2wd and it was pretty mint except for high miles on the motor.
-
Auction ended at $5,300 without the reserve being met. Do want...

Would love to find a solution to this problem as well. On my '92, all dash lights, minus turn indictors, fuel and upshift light, went out after I pulled my carpet. I assumed that I had knocked something loose, but have checked multiple times and I can't find anything wrong.
-
I'm planning to throw some ZJ coils on next weekend, I'll report back when it's finished.

Holy hell, and here I thought I was doing you a favor by packaging them in boxes. I've never heard of 'dimensonal weight before', although after reading through the UPS site I'm not really sure shipping them unboxed would have saved much. The only extra dimension the box added really was length as the fenders were pretty snug in there, and even the added length was not that much more. http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/dim_weight.html Bottom line, it sucks. Major rip off for something that weighted 10lbs. Sorry to hear that Troy, I know you were trying to find the most cost effective way to get them out there.

Finally getting settled in at the new place, time to start working on Jeeps again. Pulled the carpet to check for rust... Sweet, I love native SoCal cars. Only problem is when I put the carpet back now none of the back lighting on the dash works. Not a fuse or headlight switch, thinking i might have knocked a ground loose, haven't had time to check it yet. Annoying. Also, the seats had been switched around for some unknown reason, when I switched them back so the adjustment controls were on the correct sides I found out why. Something is broken in the drivers seat causing my left @$$ check to slide into the door while driving. Need to fix that. Replaced the coolant temp sensor and oil pressure sending unit so now I have working gauges. The 4.0L has a pretty healthy oil leak, need to replace the OFA, rear main and oil pan gasket. Hopefully since its 2wd it won't be as big of a pain in the @$$ to get access. Also picked up a brake booster and master cylinder off a '96, need to swap that out. The brakes are straight up scary on this thing, I've almost ended up in someone's trunk on several occasions. Unfortunately I've been spending money like a drunken sailor on my new house so fixing the body panels might not happen as soon as I'd like, but there's plenty to do in the meantime including prepping my black jeep for Moab.
-
Yah no major body damage and the engine was there, interior was a little trashed though. I'm not positive about the rules, but I think unless the whole car is specifically marked 'for sale', you can't buy a whole car off the junkyard lot.

Saw this at my local junkyard last weekend, felt the same way. wanted to pull the 44 just on principle, it was half off day too.
