Go to the JY and get them off a 4 door cherokee that has the vent window. I need to replace mine also but won't buy them from teamcherokee

Is the speedo cable for an 89 pioneer 4.0 one piece or two? I went to price one and it says lower.

Don, How do you manage to sneak these DIY threads in with out me seeing them? First the window fluid bottle in the fender; now this.

I took out the speedo gear and reseated that; then I undid the bolt behend that and made sure the cable was inserted into the end of the speedo gear. Still nothing. What should I do next? When I first give it gas the needle seems to "float" up to about five and then drops back down. Is it possible the cable went in at the top of the sleeve?

Thanks for all the replies. Mvusse, I guess i will wait and see what happens when i get stuck in traffic :popcorn: . Thanks, Don. That is way to complicated for me. I will try to take the temp near the sender and see if it reads near the same as the gauge. If it is off I will just add the difference to what the gauge is saying.

What size/style lug nuts are on our jeeps?

I just swapped in a cluter and my temp gauge is reading about 160. I have a 195* thermostat. I will check the temp near the temp sender,somehow. But how do i calibrate the gauge to match? Also, should the oil pressure gauge be around 20 at stop and around 42 when driving?

I think alot of the smaller ones may be closing up. I think they are taking advantage of the high price of scrap and moving on. The trend I notice most is that alot of JY's don't want to let people into the yard anymore.

On mine, when i looked up in front of the oil pan I could see the crank spinning and the oil was pooling there before it dripped and ran down the dust shield or whateverit is (thin sheet of metal on front of bell housing). I thought for sure it was the RMS. Atleast you don't have to drop the tranny.

Mine was leaking exactly like you described. I thought i had a RMS leak but it turned out to be the valve cover gasket leaking down the back of the engine, down the oil pan past the drain plug and flying back onto the exhaust. The crank pressure probally messed up the valve cover gasket.

Since its only like $8 for a complete kit for both wheels with all the springs and hold down pins i would get new ones. You can also get a kit for the E brake parts. i think you have to buy the adjuster parts and the e brake levers seperate from the kits tho. Check out rockauto.com for the parts. they have the best prices.

There was another post on this exact thing a little while back. I think the shaft itself is grounded so the wire is supposed to just ground on the shaft. I forgot how the other guy solved it. The fork type end has to go toward the axle on the uppers.

It also look like your rear pinion seal is leaking (where the driveshaft connects to the rear axle).

I just finished swapping in a gauge cluster from an 89 XJ into my 89MJ. Everthing seems to be fine (temp gauge working; oil gauge around 20 at stop and 42 while driving) except my speedo isnt working. I pulled the cable pretty far out to get to it. Is there a chance I dislodged it from the speedo gear or do you think i broke the cable or the gear?

I was trying to figure this out. I think it was a 15/16 wrench that fit on mine. Which I think was 25mm when I measured the gap across the wrench. I have an 89.

The D44 alone is worth the $300 you paid for the truck. I would hook the sway bar up if you will be driving it on the street.

Yeah the cable could be binding or it could be loose where it connects to the speedo gear.

The registry can be one of the most frustrating places on the planet. I mean, it took them 40 years to figure out they could have you pull a number and sit down to wait instead of standing in line for 4 hours.

I don't uderstand the whole ohm/impedence thing. Could someone explain it in very simple (think idiot) terms.
