I found someone who is selling a 1986 and the ad says it has a six foot bed. I recall that ALL 1986 models were the longer 7 or 7.5 foot beds. Can someone confirm this?
-
Maddzz1, are you looking for specific parts or do you want a second truck? I really just want a clean 6' bed. Let me know if you want to split a truck?
-
You should ask Galford to check that truck body out with a magnet. That body looks too clean.

First of all, JeepcoMJ, your a good man for doing all this! I have stood in many a line at the Registry of Motor Vehicles here in Massachusetts holding my breath while the clerck inspects the title like its an ancient sea scroll. In my experience, your title-which is a legal document is ruined. You could try to explain your situation over the phone to your local RMV person-but in reality, you need to go down to the office with ALL of your documents and find out what your next step is. Good luck, brother!

Thanks, that's what I thought. Well, I didn't end up getting the truck. The owner told me late yesterday afternoon that it was still available and I told him I would meet him at 6PM (EST) tonight to look at it. So my phone rings at 3PM today and the owner tells me he is going to sell it to someone else at 4:30PM today. He said the guy just showed-up and handed over the money without even taking it for a test drive. I was really ticked-off because I was "next in line" to look at it and we agreed on the 6PM meeting. I know that money talks, but the owner should have told this guy to wait until after our SCHEDULED meeting. Am I off base here?

Question for you guys: My '89 has the 5-speed Peugeot transmission, the 4.0 litre engine, and is 4WD. Can the transmission from this truck be swapped-out when/if my Pegeot dies? This '90 truck has the 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed transmission and is 2WD.
-
Good point tjbliley! I still need to get the green light from the boss first. There are times when I spend the whole week-end working on it and she gets ticked-off.
-
Good eye maddzz1! The owner just told me that the box is rust free and at that price, I'll buy it for the bed alone! My bed is a rust bomb. There is one person scheduled to look at it tonight-is that you? If it doesn't sell, I'm next on the list.

Mattpioneer, is that $50 for the crankcase hose only? Is that from the Jeep dealer? -

I know what you mean. I "bought" my '89 for $400 and have put almost $4K into her in the past 6 months. And now a crankcase hose! -
Since I picked-up my current MJ, I have been to 4 area junk yards & called many others. None of them have MJ's. It would be interesting to know how many are actually registered. There can't be very many.

JeepcoMJ, can you tell us what you paid for your rig? Every time I see you post, I wonder how much could it be? -
Have you guys read this write-up about fixing the 4.0 engine blowing oil into the air cleaner? http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/a ... ?id=257985 My engine is doing the same thing! The crankcase breather hose that connects to the air cleaner is cracked at the connection point at the valve cover and is also blowing a small amount of oil onto the air filter. This write-up recommends buying a complete kit (part #4762592) from the dealer. Would you guys recommend replacing just the front crankcase breather hose-I’m thinking of just grabbing a used one from a Cherokee at the local bone yard tomorrow.

My 2 cents: Back in the late 80's, a Jeep Service Manager from Watertown, MA (not sure if they are still in business-they were a tiny dealership) told me that I should only use the Mopar oil filter and NEVER use a Fram. He told me that he had seen two 4.0 engines damaged from their use. Not sure if he was blowing smoke (to sell more factory parts), but reading this thread makes me wonder!

Giving a 21 year old motor some more pep.

BLHTAZ, I understand that changing out gears is best left to the repair shop, but do you think a modest wrench could change axles? Have you done this before? -

Ok, I won't let this post die. I found a guy in New Hampshire who has an 8.25 rear axle that came out of a '99 Cherokee with 3.55 gears and is an open differential. He said it will need rear brakes. He is asking $200. He also has a front axle with matching 3.55 gears for an additional $200. Is this a good deal? -

At the risk of sounding stupid, if I use this Ford axle do I need to change the front axle? -

Guys, What is your opinion on this available axle on Craigslist? It's a complete rear end out of a 2000 Ford Explorer with 3.73 gears and a factory limited slip differential-complete with disk brakes. Will this swap-out with my '89 Comanche with the 4.0, 5-speed, and standard factory rear drum brakes? http://buffalo.craigslist.org/pts/597868223.html -

Guys, what's your take on this auction item from eBay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-rin ... .m20.l1116 -
I'm with you, Jeepinmanch, but there are still lots of useable parts on her and how much can this thing go for at $20 with only a day to go?

Eagle, is a gear swap-out something a modest wrench can handle? -
The current bid id $20.70 for a Jeep Cherokee and the auction has NO RESERVE! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 14904&rd=1 Do you think the Seller is worried?

I have a stock '89 with the 4.0 & 5-speed. I have no plans to lift it, but would like to gain more power. What kind of gear change would you suggest? Lastly what would the impact on MPG be?
