  3. Yup, looks like more shooting than hunting!   Next time bring along some eye and ear protection. You will be thankfull in your "older" age.  Here is a couple lil videos I made, you might like. Hope you enjoy them. CW
  4. While this is very true, a truer response might be that with Jeep, almost anything was possible. :brows: :dunno: :shake: (There really are no constants. Jeep was a lady of the night, using parts from many manufacturers.) ALSO, don't forget that with ANY vehicle as popular and modded as a Jeep. The newest of the Comanches is approaching approaching 18 years. There is always possibly that someone was "in there" unbeknownst to you. CW
  5. I had about half a day today for the trailer. Last night I got the diamond plate. With some helping hands we cut the diamond plate on my table saw with a old carbide blade. It cuts pretty easily. With all the pieces cut I began applying the 3M double stick tape. I want to insulate the alum form the steel with more than a couple coats of paint. Plus this should do allot for banging where I cannot bolt it in. I realized I hadn't made enough tabs on the gate. SO, it was back to the chop saw with some 1" angle. I added four pieces to the sides, welded in same as the rest, only along the short sides. Then the gate plate was attached!! Now all sides are on and it really looks tremendous!! I had more time so I made up mt tongue support too! CW
  6. My MJ got a brandy new til pipe turn down!! Because its in the rear wheel well, it gets ALL kinds of road grime. Two years is about tops for its life span... CW
  7. Here is a couple more sites I have found with many great builds and information on offroad trailers. Both of these builds closely resemble mine!! http://www.redjeepclub.com/tech/offroad ... railer.php http://wildyoats.com/off_road_trailer_build.htm Some really good pics and information throuout. BTW, I picked up the 16Ga diamond plate today and tomarrow it gets mounted...along with the bigger tires!! CW
  8. Was it fine before? Did you "man handle" it to get it off the injectors? Are you sure its fully seated on the new injectors?? If yes, maybe time for a trip to the PnP for a new one... CW
  9. OOH, purdy parts......
  10. WO/ drop brackets its prefered to run all replacement control arms on any lift over 3.5-4". W/ Drop brackets you can get away with it but you willl still be better off with replacement arms. CW
  11. Those look GREAT TOO!!! I have been lurking on http://expeditionportal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42 some GREAT IDEAS found here!!! many GREAT BUILDS!!!! CW
  12. Hey Paul!! Great to hear from you again!!! I didn't even want to think about explaining one of those at inspection!!! :duh: :huh???: I haven't given it allot of thought, but book marked the link. I may just do something down the road. CW
  13. You are a MIND READER!!! This is EXACTLY what we did!! ITS REGISTERED!!!!!! CW
  14. A bit of soap on the inside will quire it right down.. You could also buy belt conditioner... You are correct be sure the pulleys are aligned correctly. maybe a new belt would fix it too!! CW
  15. Maybe so, who knows for sure. Pop also said this was a State Trooper, not just some jamoke. Someone you would think was at least a bit more on the "ball than your average Joe. The idiot kept pushing a piece of paper in my Pops hand. saying all information is in here... well, I read it and guess what... in THERE OWN WORDS.... "Trailer tires weight ratings need be approximate for the axle ratings" SO, I guess that is ambiguous at best. But I still read that the tires we had on there where just fine.... If we have problems tomorrow with this he is going to demand a supervisor. CW
  16. Well.... It FAILED!!! :wall: :wall: :wall: It failed because of the weight limit on the Goodyear 225/75R15 tires. They are rated for 1874Lbs max each. That totals over 3700lbs and the axle is rated for 2000lbs. Which is the same I am registering the trailer for. SO this genius inspecting the trailer said, someone could read this on the tires and surmise he could load the trailer to over 3700lbs. Seriously overloading the axle. My first response to my father was, following his logic, go look at any car/truck or van he choose in the lot. I guarantee any will have there tires rated max loads more than the GVWR of that vehicle. Yea, you guys know I know how to make friends and influence people. :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: I have the 12" tires mounted and its again ready for another trip to DMV tomorrow...... CW
  17. Today I reread the DMV regs and when I got home wrapped all my wires, tied them up nice and high and routed them away from any moving parts. I finished the front marker lites and installed the mud flaps on the fenders. (Just in case) Then hooked it up to pops WJ and did a final light check for the trip to inspection tomorrow. I cannot be there so I don't know if he will be able to reg it for me, but as long as it passes inspection, I can run down and reg it afterwards. Wish us luck!! I'll post up the results tomorrow. CW
  18. CAD is Central Axle Disconnect, Its in the front axle of most pre '93 XJ, MJ and YJ jeeps W/ a 231 T-case. It control's a two piece pass side axle shaft that is connected or dis connected via vacuum (the CAD) and a shift fork that moves a splined collar to connect (Or disconnect) the two axle shaft pieces. It gets dirty and gummed up and dosent fully engage the two shafts. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found CW
  19. So you are driving around without a prop valve? I did so for a very long time.. no issues what so ever. Every PU I ever had will generally lock rear tires first anyhow. CW
  20. Thanks Art!!  Tonight all I did was spray the underside of the fenders with rubberized undercoating. Then I decided to repaint the frame in Rustolium HAMMERED black paint. I really liked the flat, but it was far too fragile. I mean LOOK at it funny and it was scratched. My biggest reason for straying form my beloved Rustolium was the sprayer on it SUX!! The Krylon nozzel is head and shoulders better. It lays down paint almost as well as a air gun, just smaller. Well the newest cans of rustolium offer a fan nozzle that works very nicely!!! CW
  21. Hence my suggestion to GO CHECK YOURS OUT. :shake: :brows: :brows: :brows: CW
  22. I learned long ago, not to take the phone they offer in the "fishing" offers. For the last 6-8 years, I renew for two years and take the biggest rebate on the top or near top phone offered. I have had a RAZOR for four years and really like the phone. But the batt need charging nearly every nite ad its not a durable phone. If you choose one, DEFINEATELY take the offer for the insurance. Back in April my plan was up and I renewed again for two years with a Motorola mill spec flip phone. (forgot the model) I like the durability, dislike the slow processor. I kept my razor and will likely switch the chip and go back to the razor for a "dress" phone as its slimmer and trimmer. Good luck, CW
  23. I don't like the short add a leaf set-ups. As advised they will make the pack very stiff and in the long run, have adverse effects on it. Better bet is a LONG add-a-leaf OR better still is add a full/main leaf (eyes cut off) from another MJ, JX or Ranger as Pete has suggested for some time. the overall lift will likely be less. But the payload of that pack will be better, sag will be reduced and your truch will NOT drive like a tank. CW
  24. I picked up some fenders @ Tractor Supply!! First time in store, some great stuff there!!! I'll be back for sure!!!! I wanted diamond plate, but they didn't have it and I really don't care to mail order as the ones my brother-in-law ordered can in mangled. His where steel not more fragile aluminum. SO, as I am now under some time constraints with DMV, I grabbed the nicest looking ones in stock. They are 9" wide, not 10 like the aluminium ones. So I needed to move them out to better center them on the tire tread. No biggie, I took some 1/2 x 1" stock. I chopped it @ 2" and drilled and tapped the center with a 1/4x20 stud. Then I welded three of these to each side of the frame. Then I made up studs and installed them in the fender mounts. The fenders are attached with nylock nuts and fender washers. I'm sure you noticed the fenders are not centered on the tire. This is because the tire moves rearward upon compression. I get quite a bit. Its a 2000lb cap so @ 1000lbs The shackle is just past vertical and the tire moves about 2" rearward. @ 1700 lbs, we estimate the sale will be at 50 degrees and the tire will have moved almost 4" to the rear. As it sits with no weight the fender is almost 2" from the front of the tire and 5" from the rear of it. Then we wired the lites. I decided to move them up to the sides where most people put them. I don't want any problems with DMV< so its as status quo as possible. The last thing I did tonight was install the 2" algle in the bed. Its bolted along the sides and in the front. CW
  25. Could very well be a burnt out lite. I also suggest you start there. THEN, if yours is a CAD axle, go take it appear and clean it up. I'll bet its not completely engaging/dis-engaging. This is VERY common and something ALL CAD owners shoulc do every couple years. CW
