Headers for 4.0 liter MJ...Banks or Pace Setter
CWLONGSHOT replied to jiffyjet2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
DITTO.... I didn't know they made a renix header... -
I picked them up used, locally for $100. They have better then 80% tread remaining. I took BFG 31x10.5's off, these appear just as wide, and at least an inch taller, but the BFG's where very worn... The BFG's where mounted on a AR 589 8" rim where these are on a factory 7" rim. CW

Pat, Great minds, you know... :brows: I just hook it to the ahooga horn. MAN that thing makes an obnoxious racket!!!  I have the same thing!! I also have a battery kill switch. I have put these on my winches in both Jeeps and they work very well. I now have them wired into the battery cables. No key... no do nothin'!! I also have a neat electrical disconnect system on the TJ as I figure its more of a target than the MY. I never have to tell anyone how it works course I can turn it on or off with a hidden switch. Like if it goes to the shop or someone else is driving it. The other thing I do is NEVER leave anything I cannot loose in there and NEVER LOCK THEM!! All the local neighbors know who and what I am, many of the neighborhood hoodlum types will not even walk in front of my house. If they walk down the street and see me in the yard working on the jeeps. They turn and walk the other way. Like jmnjim, guess they think I'm a bit crazy, that and I have that big freakin' dog!!! He has a great eye for the troubled, he lays in the yard and growls, lo and loud till they move on to cross the street. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: He is a GOOD BOY!!! :D CW

Chassis Ground isssues
CWLONGSHOT replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have said it before but it bears repeating. Your on the right track checking and replacing your grounds. If in doubt of any REPLACE THEM. Too many is NEVER a problem!! Neither are EXTRA grounds!! One other big one is the battery cables. I made my self a custom fit set with the correct cable ends and a big crimper made specifically for big cables. I for get the size I used, but its as big as your thumb and has very fine wires inside, the insulation is also quite thick. They where made for the medical industry in a X-Ray machine. MAN what a difference it made!!! the engine run smoother, started better and the lights are brighter as well!! Good luck, CW -

MAN, get some NEW glasses, a wire wheel will NOT CUT IT!!! Forget about using a wire wheel!!! A reg 1/4" cutting wheel used to clean the steel is better than that wire wheel!!! Get yourself a couple flap discs!!!! CW -
ya another couple questions

This is what you need, combined with a high speed grinder!! The will remove EVERYTHING RITE QUICKLY!!! Wire wheels on your drill motor are fine for loose scale or to clean up weld slag, or a bolts threads but they SUK at actually cleaning steel. You NEED a high speed grinder!! I cleaned everything under the patch panels, but only cleaned the weld areas to bright shiny clean bare metal. CW -

That's still not bad, and a bit better as far as amps!! IIRC mine is 20% and 130amps max.... BTW, my frame repairs was done with a mix of .030 and .035 but ALL flux wire. Did I mention that clean steel makes better welds... just saying.. :D CW -

40% duty cycle is good, but 80Amps is low... Sounds like a 110V unit. (Mine is too Mine is a Hobart 140 115V 140A machine) If so your at or very near the max you can do with that machine. The flux core will burn hotter and get you better penetration. Be sure you have the pos ground setup properly for the flux core wire... If you need more and your machine will handle .035 wire it will be hotter for you. CW -

LOL, I have two good scars. One on each biceps from weld slag dripping on me and burning Thur my shirts. they both look like someone put a cigarette out on my arms, almost in the same spot on each arm. My left arm has been burned like this a couple times. Comes from welding upside down.... FUN STUFF!!! What is your machines specs and what wire are you using? Solid or flux core? What is your gas mix if solid wire? CW -

BEFORE!! My frame was no where near as clean as this when the bed first came off!! An hour with a wire brush and wheel removed most of the scale. Then a 60grit flap wheel on my grinder cleaned the frame steel to almost a mirror. Believe me, this goes a LONG WAY to good looking and performing welds!!! I'm lucky to have a good steel yard about a mile away. But 90% of what I buy is scrap overages sold for 1$ a pound. I just have to wait sometimes for the exact material I'm looking for to come in. If I cannot wait, I pay full cost. In this case, I paid for the bottom cap to be made up and got the rest as scrap. Remember this, Anything worth doing, is worth doing correctly. You could have the best setup and skills creating a bead, if your steel isn't clean you won't get good looking or performing welds. I cannot express this strongly enough. CW -
I replaced the crappy Ahoo-ga Horn from harbor freight with a "real" one form JCWhitney... Sounds good now!!! :clapping: :shake: (Yea, one of you guys told me it was crap.. you wha rite!!) CW

I hate to keep beating you up here, But you really need to listen. All this effort will be completely wasted!! Even tho this is off road only, it will be just as useless when it snaps in to first time you flex it!! Making it for off road only eliminates damage to innocent bystanders, your still driving this thing and your still making and investment here. PLEASE take the time to do it rite. Here is some pics from when I did mine. Please notice the lack of full width 90 degree welds and the clean steel both on the frame and the patch panels. Take your time and do it rite the first time, maybe it will last a bit longer for you to enjoy once your done. CW -
Need shock absorber advice
CWLONGSHOT replied to glundblad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is nothing "harsh" about the Bilsteins sans the initial prices. LOL I have them and they are by far the bast shocks I have ever had on this vehicle. But they are costly. For the fact height vehicles, try the Monroe sens-a-tracks. EXCELLENT shocks!! Another really nice shock available in small lifted heights is Old man Emu. These are excellent shocks as well. CW -
Remember, just cause its new, doesn't remove it from suspicion...... I agree with others, "burp" your system. Not usually as big an issue on an HO like yours, but it sure sounds like it could be the problem. Besides its free and easy!!! Also whats your ''mix" in the rad? You mentioned adding water, was it from the tap, or distilled as it should be? How old is the anti-freeze? Might be time for a flush and fill. (An easier job, if done back in October as part of a reg maintaince interval) Good luck, CW

How to fix frozen door latches....

Once thawn WD40 is a good choice!! The WD stands for Water Displacement 40th version/attempt!! I have this problem with my MJ as well. I have tried many things and WD40 is as good as any of them!! Good luck, CW -
Personal protection with a firearm is a big step. With out a devotion and complete understanding and willingness to completely do this. You may be the one introducing the major factor. Should someone take that handgun from her by her unwillingness to actually use it. Threatening/brandishing with a firearm is a sure way to have it taken away from you have even have it used against you. This to me sounds like your decision for her. This is dangerous and is the variable that makes all the difference. I would recomend you have a really good sit down and even look for someone in your area who can better advise you. Maybe a personal protection clinic where you shoot, shoot, shoot. One excellent one I always recomend is done all around the country by Massad Ayoob. EVERYONE will leave this with a crystal clear understanding on what it entails. For now a better option may be a less-lethal option. Like KIMBERS excellent pepper-blaster. http://www.kimberamerica.com/shop/section.php?xSec=2 Now, I am making assumptions here, but experience in these matters proves out my opinions. Wives/girlfriends tend not to have the "stomach" for 100% comitment to these things. Along the same lines the macho kill-em all let god sort em' out mentality that sound cool... in today's realty, well...it isn't. Good luck, CW

I have a set on my MJ. My opinion of them mirrors EAGLE's. @ 4" on the street fine, off road OK. Move to 6" OK on the street better off road as they are higher up out of the way of the rock trolls. Ride quality MUCH IMPROVED!! The better option would be long arms, but you HAVE the DB's.. just use them!! CW
