  1. The way I see it its one of three things. 1) The steering box is not centered as Pete is describing. 2) The stops on the knuckles are set differently. 3) Something is binding/bent. CW
  2. Just FYI... A shackle will only provide a 50% lift for its legnth as it is only lifting one end of the spring. A factory shackle is about 5.25 eye to eye, so your 6" long shackles (If thats a eye to eye measurement) will only be netting you about 3/8" of lift from the shackle alone. To attain 4" of lift from a shackle alone, it would need to be about 13-14 inches from eye to eye.  :D CW
  3. Arn't you awful "tipsy" in an off-camber situation with your shocks setup like that? The shocks don't have any bearing on "tippyness" They merely dampen out the bumps. BUT, You are correct in that they do not work as effeciently mounted like this. :D Ideally they should be mounted as far out towards the tire and as straight up and down as possible. CW
  4. Anyone hooked on the TRANSFORMERS? I went and saw the movie, I was a bit old for them when they where originally on TV, so didn't know the characters, but it was a good movie anyhow! Found this on another forum... http://www.funflip.com/quiz/transformers BTW, My score was 69% Optimus Prime. ;) :D Enjoy. CW
  5. Glad it worked out so well for ya!! factory length coils are pretty easy...once you get into 4-6" lifted coils with stock CA's the fun really begins!! BUT... if you graduate to Long-arms or Drop brackets. Spring work is again a SNAP!!! Here is a shot with everything attached sans the shock. In this shot, I needed the jack under the axle to hold the spring from falling out. When I was trying to put in the shock. This is a 4.5" lifted front coil. CW
  6. Flexing it out and measuring it is the best way to see what you need. I couldn't get there using the factory top mounts, so I made new ones!! CW
  7. Fronts YES, Rears NO. Easiest way I have found is to remove shocks and flex out until tire lifts and measure. You will need a compressed as well as extended length. Bilsteins are AWESOME SHOCKS!!! CW
  8. OH MY GAWD!!!     Are you serious, TWO QUARTS for a Comanche headliner?????? CW
  9. don't get all worried about the SUA setup snagging every rock you go over. Some SIMPLE changes and you will be just fine!!! Every wheeler thats worth his salt has moved a lower shock mount up. Its SIMPLE!!! Then buy a set of thick lower U-Bolt plates that protect the nuts OR get/make a U-Bolt flip and again your DONE!! Many could argue the attributes of having the spring below the axle as it acts as a ramp to slide up and over obsticals that may snag on the axle tube when SOA... Once these type of additions have been made. Just something to ponder. I have been over and trru some nasty stuff since doing these changes...never have I been snagged by my rear SOA set up, never. CW
  10. I have been driving the TJ for about a week...its been over a month since i had it out so I figured before it gets too cold I'll drive the TJ!! Next time ya see me, flag me down!! CW
  11. WOW!! SMALL WORLD!! I am just up the hill, in Meriden! :D I am also running the Rustys rear leafs. No issues clearing 33's with them spring under. Check out my post in projects section. CW
  12. I agree, look at your EGR. CW
  13. I would like to have that clip...anyone know how I can get it?? CW
  14. Sorry to say your engine is on borrowed time...gas is one of the poorest lubricators... breaks down the oil until its not worth Dukie. Dukie = technical term meaning CRAP!! :D :D Sorry its been a long day!! CW
  15. Seemed to be something in the sir here in CT a couple weeks back..... One of mine, two of my pops and TWO friends MM went all in about two weeks time!! We changed them all here., All but one replaced both and one was a 4cyl all others where the 4.0 6cyl. My buddie with the 4cyl figured he would be cheap and put in a set made up from a couple used ones that where in good shape. his where completely separated. The 4.0 bolted in to the mount on the frame, but where too high and too wide to fit between the 4cyl's engine mount. We had both in hand and didn't immediately notice they where different!!! EASY TO DO!!! CW
  16. This is a very nice looking combo!! CW
  17. Yes they do... BUT side by side examination will show the 4cyl are lower and narrower where the single bolt goes thru the mount to the motor. Where they mount to the frame mounts IS THE SAME. CW
  18. The MM's on a 6 cyl and 4cyl WRANGLER is different. So I am going to say its likely the MJ's will also be different. Although I have not had both MJ mounts in my hand at the same time. CW
  19. Nope, not at all. I kinda was worried as well...but I have had it very twisted and nothing even touched!! The pics are deceiving. It would have to invert the leaf to get contact, let alone damage the pipe. CW
  20. I also got tired of crushing mine. But I also do not like all the loud resonance that you get from exiting the exhaust under the bed of the truck. My solution was to wxit it out the side, Just in front of the pass side tire. CW
  21. WHY on gods green earth, would anyone in there right mind what them!!!!!???!?!?!?!?
  22. Ideally you want a post 1996 model from a FORD EXPLODER/MOUNTAINEER. CW
  23. I'd put money on its a case of "MISTAKEN IDENTY"!! Either the guy hasn't a clue, is outright lying or has been miss informed (AND hasn't a clue). HA HA HA!! If you notice, they are both still 5 lug wheels in that truck. While its possible to get this, the level of work and parts to get there, dosen't jive with a $2000 truck... IMHO CW
  24. I did the whole jack up and spin thing. I still don't know. I only got 2 turns to 1. It's not the original axle and will be getting replaced anyhow but WTF? If you turning it by the tires, you need to turn BOTH REAR tires at the same time or the spyder gears about half your numbers. Pop the cover and read the numbers stamped on the ring gear. Its fool proof!! CW
  25. YUP, MANY other differences, but the big one is YJ is LEAF sprung and TJ is COIL sprung. YJ= SQUARE head lamps Image Not Found TJ= ROUND head lights Image Not Found CW
