  1. Ok, I got the harness earlier today and it looks 10000000% better. Big thanks to Boilermaker! Now I've only got a few loose ends to tie up! :D Here are a couple of plug-ins that I'm not sure about... I'm assuming that a couple of these will sort themselves out when I have it in the chasis, but if anyone has any advice that would be helpfull.
  2. I would like one more person to verify what hornbrod is telling me before I let boilermaker know exactly what to send me... just to make me feel at ease
  3. That is the best news I've heard in my entire life I swear... Somebody else agree with him Quick! lol
  4. Gotcha. I'll be looking into finding one of those electrical FSMs soon. I talked to boilermaker yesterday and there's still a little confusion about what what exactly I'm going to need to get from him. Mainly its the dash harness that's in question... can I re-use mine or do I need the '91 piece?? And if not, is my '90 guage cluster going to be compatable?
  5. What's the PDC? And IIRC the renix flywheel has a the reluctor for the CPS on it (at least that's what it looked like when I had my tranny out a couple of months ago...) what does the HO sensor use?
  6. Looks like I've got a line on straight-up trade for a harness and ecu from an AX-15 equipped '91 MJ, couldn't ask for much better! Now, what compatability issues should I expect with this swap (wiring wise)? I'll have a '90 truck with a '95 engine and (soon) a '91 harness and ecu... are there any "extra" plug-ins/sensors/do-dads that'll I'll need to deal with??
  7. I have a new appreciation for the saying about ASSuming things... I'm retarded. The wiring harness I pulled is from a '96 XJ, I ASSumed it would work just fine on my '95 H.O. that I'm putting in my '90 MJ. Well this doesn't seem to be the case :wall: But in hopes of not making another un-informed purchase/sale, I would like to find out for sure that there is no way I could get the '96 unit to work. As stated, the ECU and complete engnie harness is out of a '96 AW4-equipped XJ, its supposed to run a '95 H.O. in my Comanche. I don't particularly want to re-use my RENIX manifolds on the H.O. motor, I'm aware that is an option. If I'm really not able to splice'n'dice to make the '96 stuff work, then exactly what harness/ECU do I need to look for to make my swap work in the easiest way possible? Thanks guys
  8. Started tearing into my "new" motor earlier this week, she seems to be in great shape! More to come...
  9. I used an 8.25 out of an XJ (not sure what year) and a 30 out of an '86 to '89 MJ... I did the whole axle swap for the same reason.
  10. I went from 3.07s to 3.55s and couldn't be happier! It's close to stock as far as the speedo is concerned and I can actually use 5th gear now. And yes, you can swap the rear and wait for the front, just don't engage the case and you'll be fine.
  11. Well they DO bolt into the bores in the knuckles just fine, that's why I didn't have any second thoughts about it untill I went to do the brakes. I've only checked on NAPAonline, I'll be able to check a little more officially tomorrow when I'm at work... If you've got any pictures that would be good.
  12. So I have to either put my old knuckles on, or change to the correct hubs and rotors... fantastic, all I need is more money to spend! So that brings up another problem: I looked up the hub units online and the same number was listed for all years... BR930040 (NAPA number), I'll check at work tomorrow just to make sure.
  13. I'm literally in the middle of swapping in my new(er) HP30 into my 'manche and I'm running into issues that I didn't expect, mainly because the axle is supposedly out of another MJ, turns out she is full of surprises! My biggest issue right now is with the brakes. Evidently they changed for the 1990 model year (what my truck is), and now I notice that the "new" axle isn't the same... Both axles have the CAD so I know I'm pretty limited on how many years it could be from. -On my old one the caliper mounting brackets are cast in with the rest of the knuckle, this one has them bolted on. -My original pads are physically too big to fit in the grooves that they're supposed to rest in. I got ahold of some pads for model years '86 to '89 and they fit perfectly... So I fitted up some '86 to '89 calipers and pads and called it a night. Today I notice that I've got them on backwards (bleeder screws are on the bottom) and they just look funny to me... here's some pics. Is the piston supposed to come up over the pads??? The pads rest just perfectly. Sorry for the huge pics, I ran out of time to re-size them... any help is appreciated!
  14. Mine didn't take much to get off, just a couple of wheels and some patience. I've had good luck with DeWalt wheels
  15. Y? Don't you know XJ sliders won't work on a MJ? :rotfl2: Hardly Image Not Found
  16. Subscribing.
  17. I've had a kit waiting to be applied for around a year now, someone told me to use 80 grit paper as well...
  18. http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=7856 Are these the bushings that are set in the axle? The picture doesn't show...
  19. I'm about to undertake a similar swap, I'll post up the info I've gathered so far when I get a little more time.
  20. Woa wait a minute... I thought 2dr XJ rears worked as well. Good thing I didn't order a set yet
  21. Lucky for me I'll have to be taking it all apart anyways when its time to do my motor swap, I'll be waiting till then, lol. I priced a flywheel today, not that bad really...
  22. Yes, the "flywheel side" of the disc was labeled. I'll go ahead and get a new flywheel ordered tonight. I'll keep everyone updated.
  23. Ok, after talking to him again, here are the "new" parts he installed: disc slave cyl throwout bearing pilot bearing pressure plate Which leaves me with the flywheel as the most likely source of the problem... but no one has answered my question. Will warpage/hotspots always be visable?! I've heard you'll see blue-ish spots if heat related damage has occoured... this is the only reason I'm not entirely convinced, I was looking at the flywheel just two weeks ago (as was my dad), and there was nothing aparent.
  24. I was wondering the same thing! Turns out he was confused, he had the flywheel resurfaced before he saw that you weren't supposed to. Would this be my problem? Again, I did not see anything wrong with it... Also, he evidently did not replace any of the hydraulics, so that opens those up to question.
