  1. Welcome.....back! Don't know if you got word that you were being  over here just recently as I posted a link to your JF build thread, but needless to say, I'm sure all us MJ nuts are glad you posted up again. Sure as heck looks like you have a lot of skills and could offer a lot of great input here. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24449
  2. i bought mine from outside of St. Louis w/out seeing it other than about 15 pictures emailed to me. found it on cars.com. i happened to know some people in St. Louis that worked for the same company i used to, and they called a couple people for me to recommend a reliable local shop to have the compression checked and give it a general look over. i paid that shop $75 over the phone with a CC, compression all checked out (it had 210k on it when I bought so I wanted to know it wasn't on it's last breath) and they let me know about a few things to keep an eye on. set up with a transport company and had it delivered to VA. No real surprises. The shop in Missouri that looked at it for me told me it needed front brakes, but it did need a new wheel hub on the right front to pass VA inspection, so about $150 more I had to spend to get it on the road. No biggie.
  3. :hmm: Your YJ is rated to tow 1400lbs I'm assuming, but it weighs a lot more than 1400lbs. So to your question, if you had the "properly equipped" MJ capable of towing 5k lbs, you could pull it if the YJ and the flatbed don't weigh more than 5k lbs combined.
  4. that's good info, cuz I have the factory Tow pkg. w/class 3 hitch.
  5. Even though anything I've ever read did not say you HAD to have Big Ton AND Tow Pkg, I assumed that was the case for a mid size truck to haul 5k lbs. So probably Tow Pkg got you to 3k lbs, then add Big Ton to get to 5k lbs capability. Still want to know if 5th wheel would increase that at all. Not that I'd want to have much more than 5k lbs pushing behind me, but again, just nagging at me to know. :wall:
  6. LOL, yeah, trailer = kids/family. Nothing wrong with a tent, just did that with my son over father's day weekend.
  7. "OTT"? Over the top? If that's what you meant, were you referring to a camper as in a towable camper, or a truck bed camper like yours? I love the look of a truck bed camper on an MJ, it just looks "natural" if you know what I mean. the pic on the bridge could be a ad for an MJ back in the day. awesome.
  8. reviving this thread.......ok, so with factory tow pkg, it is agreed that an MJ can tow up to 5000 lbs, proper weight distributing hitch yada yada yada. One thing I have not seen is if this is limited to the 2wd longbed, some other configuration, or is the same rating as long as you have the factory tow pkg. Almost ALWAYS when you see a "max tow rating", it is in one particular configuration. Anyhoo, what I'd really like to know, is there any info out there to say what an MJ could tow under 5th wheel configuration? Is there some formula a slide-rule geek can use to figure it out? Logic tells me in a small truck like this, it's still gonna be the 5k lbs, limited more by the strength of the trans, frame, etc. At least you'd gain the more stable setup and better weight distribution of a 5th wheel setup. On full size trucks, especially 3/4 and 1 tons, they are often rated for up to 10-20% more capacity under 5th wheel towing. I'm already assuming 5th wheel was never a configuration the MJ was rated for, but it'd be cool to know. Just one of those little tidbits of info that will bug the crap out of me forever if I don't see it in print somewhere. :dunno:
  9. oh, and he's selling a pair of bilsteins that didn't fit right. cheap. *edit: and a bunch of other stuff too... http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f127/pai ... s-1064948/
  10. i thought so. :hmm: i did a little searching to try to find it, or him, on here, but i'm sure he hasn't kept it up on here like he has on jeepforum because we'd all be sh*tting bricks over it if it was.
  11. Ever since mkbruin posted his little 5th wheel for sale on here, I have been OBSESSED with seeing if there are any other lightweight 5th wheels that could go behind and MJ. There are not many but they are out there. Pretty cool if you ask me; I would love to have one. With that I also started looking at campers that would fit an MJ since there are a few on CC. Again, not many, but there are some out there for mid-size trucks. Then I ran across this site last nite, and not only do they have something that would work in both a short or long box MJ, they will custom build a camper for just about anything you want, as evidenced by the Cheromanche below with it's own custom camper. http://www.coyoterv.biz/default.html
  12. For some reason I think a link to this has been on here before. If so, and you've seen it, you know why I'm putting it up. If it hasn't been on here, or you haven't seen it, well, give yourself an hour or two and some snacks because you won't want to take your eyes off the screen. I've got a feeling this guy may be related to mfpdm because the thoroughness and attention to detail of this MJ build is awesome, and easily makes my "Top 5 MJ's of All Time".  http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f22/99-mj-build-881250/
  13. smithe, that would be great. what parts would you be looking to get out of it so we're not hoping for the same thing(s)? **just saw that a guy posted on jeepforum today asking if it was still available. smithe, how 'bout you call old Lou on this and set up to go look at it and hopefully we have dibs on it. :brows: like, tomorrow!
  14. shhhh... ;) i've been trying to talk myself in to making a low ball offer and going to get that truck, because it's a 91 HO. i just want the motor for when mine finally gives out some day. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f149/91- ... s-1055303/

  16. :jump: Laslo just stepped out of the closet again. I thought Chico was Laslo...will need to find another analogy for The Deuce (yes, I just referred to myself in the 3rd person as "The Deuce") LMAO. You be right, I crowned Chico as "Laslo" first. I'll put some thought in to the character most representative of the now sporadic and unexpected appearances by "The Deuce". :chillin:

  18. i need those tail lights!
  19. Jeffrey!! Damn brotha! That is flat out gnarly. Hope the recovery goes well!
  20. Everyone please note the pristine and freshly epoxied garage floor.
  21. :agree: $3k for a complete 97+ changeover including HO motor? I finally have to say what I always bust nads on for everyone else saying............if it were only closer. Wow.
  22. i was waiting for someone to post a pic of that 715 concept. friggin off the chain!! http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/04/mi ... r-715.html the Unlimited has the same wheelbase as the original Scrambler, and only 16 inches shorter overall which is all in the bed. there are a few outfits on the market that convert the unlimited to a 1/2 cab with the "bag of mulch" size "bed". i'm amazed that i haven't seen a true Scrambler conversion with the 16 inch bed extension. I know it would involve extending the frame and fabbing the 16" bed extension has challenges, but I'm still amazed I haven't seen ONE done. :dunno:
  23. they also have regular 5qts. of quaker state and purolator filters on sale for $15, the valvoline (at least here) was $17. i'm good for now but i keep a close eye on their sales. fyi for everyone here, you should at least sign up for advanced's email notices. every once in awhile i'll get a special coupon code that is not advertised on the website. about two weeks ago i got one that offered $10 off of any $30 order, $20 off of a $50 order (40%!), or $30 off of a $100 or more order, as long as you ordered online. Well, since the 2yr warranty was out on my 28 month old muffler that has a seam split, I ordered a Thrush all-welded muffler, threw in a gallon of 50/50 coolant, 6 champion spark plugs and a bottle of zinc oil additive. Total was $64 - $20 discount for $44. Oh, and I chose the "store pickup option" since everything was in stock and paid no shipping. Pretty sweet deal IMO.
  24. i've said it before and i'll say it again, bridgestone dueler a/t revo's. awesome tire...
