  1. :rotf:  :laughin: :rotfl2: Famous Last Words......Think I've hear that before-- J = Just E = Empty E = Every P = Pocket Just about every thing, from the "B" pillard forward are the some on the XJ and the MJ. Seat bracket are diffrent, and that's it. The drive train and front axel are the same, only diffrence is the rear drive shaft. If you can get the whole XJ, and a place to park it, your set for the 4 wd swap. But don't forget, going from a manual to an automatic has alot of changes, wireharness, pedals, shift cables, TV cable, TPS.....and so on. Very easy swap with the doner 5 feet away :brows: nah no way I'm going to auto... 4wd..hummm maybe,,,, you said the TPS is diffrent on the auto?
  2. I was thinking you might be able to find a file that thick and just take a little time shaving it out. The dremel will work I'm sure, but you won't be able to get it perfectly flat on the ends.
  3. I did look up and the only thing I saw for a overhead console was a small little console over the rearview mirror. I though it was a receiver for a remote door lock. The guy told me the xj was a donated from somewhere.. He didn't even try to start it. I may take a batt back there just to see if it will turn over. Then pull the 4.0 just in case kinda thing. IDK yet,, I'm not trying to spend a whole lot on this truck,,, but its looking that way now.
  4. Good I was hoping all this stuff would swap over. I mean it all looks the same! Try to stump ya here..... I have a new brake M/C off my old CJ- 7 will it replace the mj's?? Note: I went by the dealership today to get the rear ccv plumbing and was pleasantly surprised to see that it is only 16 bucks for the rear line. The guy at the counter was saying some of the factory parts are alot cheaper than after market. Kinda good to know. Thanks, Eagle ( the jeep yoda)
  5. sounds like a winner. I don't know why I was thinking you where asking about the manifold.. how you going to widen the shaft? I might try this at school next semester.
  6. Like the title says I found me a 89 xj with a 4.0. I got the alt., vacuum lines, some sensors and other nick-nacks off it today. It has some decent leather seats in it, doors, fenders, dash, front/ rear axles, and transfer case.. My question is will any of these parts swap? I know the fenders, doors, axles, and transfer case will (If I ever decide to go 4wd.) How about the dash, seats and other interior plastics? It also has a good center console for auto. I didn't study the MJ's enough to know if I can swap it too. If you guys could tell me what other parts I might need to remove I'd be really thankful,,,,,,,,,,,,,,jt
  7. Humvee's have hubs kinda like that, but theirs are taller because they use another set of gears and the transmission turns in reverse direction. Pretty tuff too. Never had a problem with them other then replacing a in/output seal on occasion.
  8. If this helps IDK, but I just took my throttle body off and cleaned it real good. I removed the butterfly and had a real hard time getting it set back in the right place, so it would close up correctly. Also when I had it out, The butterfly looked a little restrictive on the intake side when it was at WOT. I filed down the butterfly to make the edge that is facing the incoming air a knife edge. I would think you could just trace out the bore in the intake manny and just use a dremal to take it to the line you scribed. Like when you port match a head. Maybe make a template with a gasket.
  9. How the he!! do you know all this stuff,,,,, did you work for amc in a past life????
  10. What so bad about the Spicer ones?
  11. That's what I like to do  The main problem I've found around here is the yards don't keep those trucks around much. Scrap is up to $8:30 a hundred # and they may just pull the engine, doors, hatch, and few other things then send it to the crusher.
  12. so what years should I be looking for on the swap from a xj? keeping with the renix ecu'ed jeep or will a 4.0 HO do-able? I don't know if I'll be able to find a close year model thats not striped to the paint already.
  13. Keep It Simple Silly!! That just the Info I was needing! Thanks Wildman.
  14. I was thinking ..... if I remove the fuse box, can I remove the fuse connectors inside the box? Like push them though the backside. Then clean what I can, or replace what is beyond a cleaning??
  15. Hmmm, that's pretty close to violating rule #2... :fool: I'll let it slide this time. :D http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1239
  16. How much is the Painless bow going to set you back?
  17. Yeah it's pretty bad off. Like I said some of the fuses are twisted, distorted, and looked somewhat melted by the fluid. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go with the route of changing the whole thing out. Swapping may be the only way to fully fix it though. Whats the fuse box's design? Does it pass the wires through the firewall or through a large connector though the firewall? I'm having trouble describing my question.... OK, I know some random wires will pass though the firewall, but I know on some vehicles the main wires pass through the firewall with a large connector on the back of the fuse box, put together with some sort of wax seal and a single long screw/bolt, thats the way s-10's are.... I hope this is the design of the Jeep's.. It would be alot easier to just swap the fuse box and connections under the dash then have to do both engine bay and under dash wires. with my luck probably not though..... I know how to solder and shrink-wrap wires thats just a slow PIA to do.. but I sure don't want any fires, I've had that before on my xj because of a busted power steering line and I believe an injector that started to leak really bad. sorry for the long post..........jt
  18. I was hoping something like this would work.. I'm going to try it first. I hope it works in my case. I really wouldn't mind changing the fuse box. I'm just worried about getting over my head in wires. How hard was it to swap everything? Did you have to cut and splice any wires??
  19. ok I noticed the clutch m/c has ruptured a seal and is leaking down over the fuse box in my 89 mj, looks as if it been doing it a while (years) now. theres alot of corrosion on the contacts and a few distorted fuses. I mean these fuses look crazy! What's my best option to cleaning the fuse box? You think I need to pull it, or is that to much work? I might need to swap the whole thing. how hard of a job is this? I really don't want to cut any wires if I can help it..... TIA,,,,jt
  20. Here is a little write-up I found, it may help you out..... http://www.fordification.com/my67-p34.htm
  21. Yes, I think that is a very good point. But for snow and mud better then all terrains any day!!
  22. oooo ok i gottch .. thanks. I was wondering what the hell it was!! :D
  23. Pretty kewl,, looks kinda like a Snowspeeder in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back movie from the top view.
  24. Yeah 89 mj 4.0l might help right!! I think I'm going to pull it this coming weekend and take it to a shop to get rebuilt. I'll see if the shop knows any way to beef it up, or tell me if I can get the insides swapped with another higher amp alt.
  25. ok I'm clueless. What does SUA and SOA stand for?
