  1. Older computers are much better. I cannot stand Vista or 7. I run only XP Pro or 2kpro. Every "new and better" computer I've ever used was a total POS. My wife just bought a new laptop with a dual core processor and windows 7 YESTERDAY. The damn thing takes 5-10 seconds to open anything after you click on it. My netbook with XP Pro and my 6 year old dell with XP Pro run a ton faster than that. d'oh! I knew that. I swear. :D S'ok. We have the same issues with gear ratios. Drives me nuts every time I see 3:55 instead of 3.55.
  2. Sounds like you have a problem with either your 1-2 fork or collar. The 1-2 collar is also the output shaft gear for reverse.
  3. Depending on what's wrong with it, you shouldn't have to take anything off the output. Just to clarify, you're not trying to go into reverse from 5th, correct?
  4. Reverse works nothing like your forward gears. There is no synchro, no fork like you're thinking. Reverse uses straight cut gears from the layshaft to the output shaft, and the idler isn't meshed until you put it into gear. When you try to put it in reverse, what exactly happens? Does the shifter go into position like it's supposed to? There really is no way to fix a problem like this without opening it up, so you might as well crack it open to see what's going on in there. Also, tell the junkyard to f*^k off. You can buy rebuilt AX-15s for less than that.
  5. Do the TBI 2.5s have the ground strap going from the back of the head to the firewall? That's a big cause of no spark.

    mouse pad

    Who uses a mouse pad?
  8. The T-case was on a bench.
  9. I've seen your videos. Good for you. But the point is, many of us, including myself, have put a 231 in Neutral, and the rear and front yokes WERE locked together. If you're worried about losing fluid, put the T-case in Neutral, and pull the FRONT shaft. No fluid loss, and no chance of damage.
  10. Are you sure it's a turdy-five? I know it was an option up to 01, but personally, I have never seen a D35 on a 97+ XJ, and even the 93-96 ones usually have an 8.25.
  11. Picture would be great, there shouldn't be any pins in the pan..
  12. Did you RTV the two parts of the RMS together?
  13. XJ/MJ tanks are very different. You cannot fit an XJ tank under the bed. I have an XJ tank in my 4.0, but it's in the bed.
  14. 87 2wd will have spindles for the front, not the hub bearings.
  15. Don't tell me you put a cork gasket on the pan...
  16. They did launch a libby into space in one of their commercials a few years ago...
  17. Definitely not Death Wobble. I've had DW, it's not fun to have to slam on the brakes at 75 mph and slow down to 25 in the middle of the interstate just so your truck doesn't fall apart and kill you. I doubt it's a U-joint. If that was it, it'd get worse the more you turned, not better. If it has anything to do with a U-joint binding, then chances are you have worse problems. First thing I would do is swap the two front tires and see if there's any change. If it goes away or switches sides, you've found your problem.
  18. Getting it out is 1/3 the battle. You still have to get the new one in without destroying it, and many, many prayers that it won't leak.
  19. 87 never came with a Chevy engine.
  20. Block and head are the same from 87-90 for the 4.0, and 86-90 for the 2.5. ALL 4.0s are MPFI. 86-90 2.5s are TBI.
  21. Uhhh... not really. First gear with 3.55s should not be that bad. Try driving a 2.5 sometime. 3.55 or 4.10 with a 3.93 first gear. You could(bleh) swap in a Pukey. All the ratios are the same, except the pukey sports a 3.39 first.
  22. What's wrong with 87? (I can understand not wanting an 86)
  23. Gotta love the front wheel drive and rubber band transmissions.
