It's easy, go to the photobucket slide show that he posted on the ad. -
Yup, direct swap then.

Was the 89 an auto or manual?

Comanche Inherently Unbalanced?
Geonovast replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is because of torque. He's saying that they put all the weight on the side that doesn't drop when you rev the engine to help it to not drop down too much and kill the suspension. If our motors spun counter clockwise, they would have put all the weight on the passenger side. -
I thought the BA 10/5 had aluminum sychros?

Top bellhousing to motor torx bolts...

A 10mm 12 pt works better (even though it's bigger, I think it grabs deeper), but if they're already starting to round off, forget about it. And yeah, I was a little irked at first seeing a topic I had started but didn't look familiar(being almost 4 years old). -
I do remember seeing not too long ago that there was a change around 91 with the draglink, tie rod, and TREs, but all the trackbars should be interchangeable. Even if it was changed, they should still swap just fine.

Also keep in mind that 2wd and 4wd use all identical suspension parts, so don't turn away from them if they specify 4wd.

Transmission Tag Help - Manufacture Date
Geonovast replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it went in just fine, then yes. Since the newer transmissions had a bigger pilot tip, it wouldn't have bolted up to the motor. Did you happen to get the crossmember with the AX-15?- 9 replies

Transmission Tag Help - Manufacture Date
Geonovast replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Most things on our trucks have a generation of years, not being changed every year, unlike some vehicles. There were only two sized pilot bearings used for manual 4.0s. 87-91, and 92+. The transmission was changed halfway through 89, from the BA 10/5 to the AX-15, but they used the same pilot bushing, and didn't change until 92. Measure the end of the input shaft on the transmission you have to put in, if you're not sure. If it's about 1/2", you need the 87-91 bushing, DORMAN Part # 690044. What year is your truck? (MODEL year) When it comes to most things, model year is what's important, not manufacturing year. I ask because, when they changed the size of the bearing on the input shaft end, the hole in the crank was also changed, so mounting a 92+ behind an 87-91 4.0 needs an oddball bearing.- 9 replies

Comanche Front Leaf Conversion - Steering?
Geonovast replied to awc737's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
SOA and 4" leaves in the back is going to leave you with (about) 10 inches of lift in the rear. I'd just assumed you were going with SOA in the back on stock leaves, and getting the rest out of the XJ shackles. You may want to get small lift springs for the rear if you're wanting to net about 8". -
1992 Jeep Comanche 4.0 No Start/no Spark
Geonovast replied to monkbonk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It shouldn't, since the coil grounds out through the spark plug. But I would get the whole area cleaned up and get both bolts back in, since, IIRC, the HOs have the main battery ground at that point. -

I'd swap the coil before the computer. Awhile back a buddy was able to grab a coil for his ZJ (should be identical to yours) from O'reillys for about 30 bucks. -
Picked This Up Today...

The older 231s will not bolt up without a new input shaft. AX-15 needs 23 spline. Your best bet for driveshaft is to have yours cut down. Keep in mind that going to an 8.25 down the road will result in another driveshaft change. I think you and I discussed that in a classified thread awhile back. If you're going to put in an 8.25, best to do it at the same time. I believe the auto computer will be fine as long as the pins for the NSS are jumped. Nice score, BTW. Sucks you didn't get the external bell with it, but it's rare to see someone grab the crossmember with it. On a side note. If you end up sucking it up and putting in an internal slave :ack: , make sure you swap the bearing retainer. And internal slave will not work with the external retainer, and vice versa.- 3 replies

Comanche Front Leaf Conversion - Steering?
Geonovast replied to awc737's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't know about the steering, but are you planning on getting 1.5" of lift out of those XJ lift shackles for the rear? Factory MJ shackles are much longer than XJ ones, so XJ lift shackles won't do you much good in an MJ. -
Not following you. :hmm: I think he means that he wouldn't mod it and just leave it as-is. :yeah that:
-
If I had something the got 35mpg, I wouldn't touch it.
-
That took me a minute, too. Pretty sure he's meaning Jeep Comanche.
-
Where are you getting the shackle? An XJ lift really won't do much for an MJ since factory MJ shackles are much longer than XJ ones.
