  1. Your truck already has an electric speedo, but it doesn't matter anyway, the sender in the 01 is different. However, your current sender should go into the 01's T-case just fine.
  2. Is the XJ an automatic? I believe the connectors and/or sensors are different for the 97+ XJs, but you might be able to get it to work. Front axle will bolt in just fine, but it will be a low pinion.
  3. Sure it's not a ballast resistor issue? (if you have one)
  4. Which is exactly why I'm thinking it's your CAD being problematic... which is all they're good for. Lock it, I'm betting your noise will go away, then forget the stupid thing exists.
  5. Lock the CAD and see if it goes away. http://comancheclub.com/topic/17377-cad-fix-1/
  6. That's actually quite a bit of trust, I imagine you could chuck the thing pretty far.
  7. It's just to quiet the fuel pump a bit, and supposedly lengthens the life of the pump. The resistor was introduced during the 87 model year, it's quite possible your truck left the factory without one.
  8. It's identical to converting an XJ to 4wd, with the except of the rear driveshaft issues.
  9. That's Pat's Dad's truck. I recognize it, and his brother's MJ in the background.
  10. Grab the front axle if it matches your rear. I don't think all the linkages will help you, especially depending on what 4wd system that 2.8's got. I don't think the T-case will help you, I seem to recall the 2.8's automatic having a 23 spline output. All AX-4/5s are 21 spline.
  11. Since you're doing so much under there anyway, you may want to consider just pulling the whole axle out and getting it out of your way. Just get some really good Jackstands.
  12. Disconnecting the track bar and sway bar links should let the axle droop a bit.
  13. Uhm, yes. Yes there is. The 2wd output shafts are considerably longer than the 4wd ones, as they need provisions for the speedometer gears. I know some people on here have been able to cut down a BA 10/5's output for a T-case, but it's a good amount of work, especially for a relatively junk transmission.
  14. Compared to where I'm from, Missouri is a rust free state. How the hell does that shift light sensor work? What does it monitor? The AX-4 I added the 5th gear to was an 86, and it did not have one.

  16. Out of curiosity, why'd you relocate it?
  17. Popping the driveshaft out is going to be, say 1000 times easier than removing the bed. Just be sure to tape the U-joint as soon as you pull it off so you don't lose the caps.
  18. Well said, Don.
  19. What do you need a longer brake line for? You need a 4wd trans. You cannot attach a transfercase to a 2wd transmission.
  20. He said it was on the T-case, but in the picture, it's clearly on the trans. T-case doesn't have a midplate.
  21. Second one should be your reverse lights, although I thought those were a 2 wire connector..
  22. It's a 2.5 litre, and 87-90 were throttle body injection, with a single injector inside the throttle body. You can use an AX-4/5 from any Jeep, but keep in mind the YJ/TJ units will clock the T-case up a bit, a little closer to the floor, but that shouldn't be much of an issue. 84-86 were also external slave, with the slave on the other side than the 94+ ones. Also, the AX-4/5 behind the 2.8 in 84-86 are identical to the 2.5 ones, including the bellhousing.
  23. No carb, your truck has throttle body injection. You might try some injector cleaner, and try spraying down the throttle body with some O2 sensor safe cleaner. Going to a 5 speed certainly isn't a bad idea, since finding an AX-5 is most likely going to be much easier than finding an AX-4, but without regearing your axles, that 5th gear is going to be all but useless to you. Shoot for 84-86 or 94+ trans for the external slave conversion.
  24. What version of AutoSketch? You may be able to download it for free if it's old enough. Also, USB floppy drives exist. I bought one a few years ago, I believe I paid about $15 for it with 10 NEW floppies.
