  1. The project will be easy, just simply unbolt it, drop it, then put the new pan on with the gasket. *Do a filter while you're at it, they're dirt cheap and usually come with the gasket anyway. I don't know if you can drain the trans first or not...I've never worked on an AW4. The only automatic I did a pan on did not have a drain plug.
  2. Saw it in the flier and couldn't pass it up. Larin 2 ton engine hoist with folding legs and load leveler, $130 at Farm and Fleet.
  3. That oughta look nice....still not sure what I'm doing for my 4.6 when it gets built, but my converted Ax-4-5 will be Green with a black midplate P.S..weren't you going to bed? lol
  4. I was just going to suggest the same thing. Just find the wiring for the fuel pump and slap a regular toggle switch on it. The fuse for that is one of the big honkers, a 60 amp in the fuse box on your passenger fender.
  5. Well my intentions are to eventually be running 30s, and when whatever rear end I get gets locked, I'll be paying the money for an air locker. I e-mailed the guy that has it, but he still hasn't responded.
  6. I have no idea what it's out of yet, but I can find out. I really wish I'd scrapped my J10 instead of having to have it hauled, it had (probably) a D44 front and either a D44 rear or a D60 rear. Oh well :(
  7. I have a possiblity of picking up an AMC 20 rear end for fairly cheap. Does anyone know anything about this axle? If it's good, would I be able to use it on my MJ?
  8. Well, my XJ was an 88, and had many AMC badges/parts on it..... An 88 model year anyway, it was actually manufactured in August of 87, so that may be where the debate comes from. I guess my 91 doesn't exist then either!
  9. Really? what's it called?
  10. Is there supposed to be a lock ring between the thrust washer and bearing for 5th gear on the layshaft? There's a lot of space between them, and the gear itself can move too much for comfort
  11. Yeah, in War of the Worlds, the white Comanche saved Tom Cruise's life...and he saved the world...so in a way, the manche saved the world!
  12. Stroke it! I was originally gonna do a standard 4.0 swap into mine, but I was talked into building a stroker since I was gonna be rebuilding my extra 4.0 anyway.
  13. You don't have to pull the rocker arms, that's way too much work. Just unbolt the head and pull it off, leave the push rods sitting in the block. When you put it back on, just have someone line them up when you set the head on it.
  14. I got it all together, the internals anyway. It shifts into all 6 gears. All I need to do now is put the case on, make sure it still shifts, then seal it and fill it. How much fluid does a 4x4 Ax-5 hold? Plus, I'm thinking I can't, but can I use the T-case linkages from an 88 XJ with the BA/10 on an 86 Ax-5 T-case?
  15. If you go to power steering I have like three pumps-2 from XJ 4.0s, and one from an XJ 2.5. I'm pretty sure it's the same pump for the 2.5 and 4.0.
  16. From what I understand, you'll have to cut a hole in the floor, and find the floor shift kit for your trans, or get another trans that already was a floor shift (like out of an XJ. Then just pull the linkages off that went from the trans to the column, and open up the column to pull the branch out.
  17. Alrigt, I got the parted out Ax-5 yesterday, and so tonight I figured I'd go out there and see what I couldn't do with the ax-4 sitting in the vice. Turned out a lot easier than I thought it would, the only difficult thing I really had was that stupid plate on the back of the layshaft. But two vicegrips and a breaker bar later and it was off. I basically have it put together, other than getting the 5th output shaft gear the rest of the way on, and there's something with the rods for reverse and 5th that I can't figure out, right now the shifter will put it into reverse but will not take it out. If anyone's rebuilt one of these could you please tell me how to fix that problem? Everything I came up with wouldn't work.
  18. I think it's more like.. 4.0 + 5spd = 3.07 4.0 + auto = 3.55 2.5 + stick = 3.55 2.5 + auto = 4.10 I have a 2.5 with a 4 spd and I have 3.55s
  19. Ok, I kinda feel somewhat dumb for asking this, but what, specifically, is the difference between a YJ and a TJ?
  20. I don't think it matters between the 2.5 and 4.0, they use the same TPS. I'm running a throttle body off of a 92 4.0 HO XJ, on my 91 2.5 MJ. It's the same throttle body, and the TPS is the same too.
  21. lol I know it won't bolt on as is, as the motor side of the bell has the 4.0 pattern, but I'm guessing that there's nobody that makes a bellhousing for it
  22. Just thought of something...from what I understand, since in 86 they didn't come with the 4.0, the firewall design was different, and you can't fit a 4.0 in there without pounding in the firewall. I know the 4.0 in my 88 XJ sat pretty close.
  23. I think the 66 years one is like, the coolest commercial I've ever seen. I seriously laugh every time I see the part with the snow half pipe.
  24. Yeah UPS is crap, anything I've had shipped by them took forever. I've always had good luck with DHL
  25. Yeah I'll definitly get one too
