How *low* will this go?
GreenF350 replied to jpnjim's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I've actually seen this truck in person not too long ago. It was at Southern auto auction in East Windsor CT, and right away it caught my eye. (It was the only Comanche I've ever seen there) After checking it out closer, however, I noticed something strange. The auction had placed a sticker across the windshield stating that it could not be sold, due to a VIN discrepancy. I thought that was interesting due to the fact that I had never seen that sticker before on the 1000's of cars there weekly. I actually took cell phone pics with the intention of starting a thread on here about this truck, but must have deleted them :dunno: Anyways, it was very clean in person, and looked very good, but the auction must have dug up something about this trucks past that isnt clear here. Not to mention the price seems a little steep........... -
I remember the add for parts off this truck on NAXJA, it woulda been a shame to part this one out. Glad to see its alive, good work!

Thanks....My only regret is that I didnt take any photos when I originally brought it home. Now when all this work is done, its really just gonna look like it does in the photo at the beginning of this thread. At least it will be alot more solid though.

Time for another update. I stripped all the paint off the cab, did alot of body work, and shot the whole truck in primer. I found some older photos that I just uploaded to document the process. The floor was welded in and the surface rust ground down before it got a nice coat of paint..... More body work......my whole garage is covered in dust :fs1: Another shot I found before it all came apart

Sounds like the same spot I just fixed. The 1st thing I would do is clean the area ( wire wheel ) to see just how far it actually goes. Mine got worse as I "poked" around. Its all fixable, and now you'd never know mine was rotted. The way these trucks are built though, I would make it a priority.

1st, I was eyeing that truck on craigslist too. I'm really glad it ended up here, so make sure you post pics of whatever you do. Second, having a decent "driver" MJ would be my goal for the truck. Not that Id be driving it every day with that milage, but a basic freshen up with the intention of always having something reliable that still maintains the "cool" factor. Last year I sold a clean 2wd 89 Eliminator that had a perfect body ( supposedly from Cali) simply because I figured I had no need for a 2wd truck. Well now I feel like an idiot!! Rather than view it as another project, I should have enjoyed what it already was. The truck ran great, was fun to drive, and if I just registered it Id probably be happier today!! :wall: Anyways, thats my 2 cents

97+ front clip or not.....
GreenF350 replied to GreenF350's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Blue XJ, that really does look good! Never considered the chrome insert like that......Hmmmmmmm. Well I guess that just another option to consider. The other problem I'm having is if I make it too nice, I won't wanna take it out and kill it. -
As it sits after a night of sanding, filling, sanding etc. All this started as a frame patch and a new bed, and soon Ill have a new truck.
-
Fixed the rocker, patched the floor, painted the entire "frame", new steering box, new brake lines with XJ prop valve, etc etc. I'm stripping the truck down now for paint again, possibly adding a new front clip and alot more. More pics to follow....

I'm putting this decision up for discussion, should I update my front end or not?? Normally I know exactly what I want and have no problem deciding on it. This time however, I'm not sure. I like the way the factory grilles look, but the new one has grown on me quite a bit.....I can get the new one for next to nothing, and have the truck in pieces, so now would be a good time. I know the newer style grille has become really common on our trucks, but I think thats why it growing on me.......thoughts?

My new years resolution is to stop buying junk projects and finish some that Ive already got............although I did just notice a grey SWB Eliminator sitting behind a house the other day though, I wonder why its just sitting there :dunno:

Reverse if for those to scared to go through it...........

Nice truck, good to see another power wagon owner on the board. But power steering? Power seats? Power windows? Hell, .......heat??!!!! I still can't find how any of that stuff works on mine :dunno: Nice truck, I considered one myself a couple years ago, good luck with it!!

Still stock axles, 30/35, but a new rear and a re-gear is part of the planned upgrades. Anyways, I had today off, so I pulled up the carpet and found some holes. No surprise there. Also, I went to a local junk yard and bought a bed. Its not perfect but it is usable. Its also alot better than my old one, even if it doesnt look like it in the pics. I tried buying the whole truck, but they'd rather sell it piece by piece......but at least Ive got parts available now. I have to go back to get the bed off sometime this week, it was cheaper if I pulled it.

Ive had this truck for a couple years now and never made a build thread, so here goes. I bought this truck bone stock, with a cap and some rust for $600. At the time it only had 90k on it. I don't have any pictures of it then, but it came out pretty good compared to what I started with. I lifted it,fixed the rust, and I had it painted etc. Anyways, after two years its starting to need some more attention, so this time I plan on taking some pictures :D This is after I was finished working on it, all cleaned up And here it is yesterday after phase 2 began The plan is to fix the frame rot that I didnt want to deal with the 1st time around ( stupid decision ) Tonight I brought it inside and got some more work done I plated inside the frame rails with steel and built up weld on the outside, then grinded it flush. Theres still more work to do, but its coming along. Originally this was supposed to be a quick patch job, but now I think I'm gonna go through the whole truck. Also, I found a nice parts truck......
-
You know,I havent started a project thread.......I should begin now. And thanks CW, believe me, ill probably have a question or two :D
-
First off, Ive been wanting to address the frame rot that I knew was hiding under there, so the bed had to come off. Since the bed was really just a patch job that was rotting too, it went to the crusher. I got all the stuff i needed off of it first though. Next off,a picture of the rot.. And the other side getting patched......I still have some grinding to do.. I plated the inside of the frame rail with steel and built up the weld on the outside, and am in the process of grinding it flush. You can see the finished product above the tire where its bare metal. Should work out. Anyways, from here I plan on going through the whole truck once again, but I plan on taking pictures this time :D

Around here 800 - 1000 seems average

Ill hafta check that site out. The guy I bought my 33's from told me to join up too. BTW, the ACOS leveled the truck out perfectly! ( even though it took me almost a year to get around to them )

I'm only skeptical because I called the owner after I talked to my friend. He told me that hes pretty sure that jeep only made one size bed for these trucks  and without him being next to the truck, he couldnt measure the bed for me. It would be a let down because the bed is really what I'm after, but you are right, its worth it either way. Pics soon......

I thought so, but wasn't sure. Well looks like I will find out on Saturday. Either way, It sounds like a decent parts truck, not to mention it was headed for the scrap yard when my buddy found it. I was told I had until Saturday or it was gonna be crushed :ack: So even as a parts truck, I'm still sort of saving it
-
I just called my buddy who hauls for a local junk yard, tomorrow hes pulling me another set. And I was just gonna leave them there
-
So I mentioned to a friend a few weeks ago that I was looking for a decent bed for my Comanche. I figured he would be the one to talk to since he hauls junk cars to all the local yards. Well , I was right, because he called today and said he found me a whole truck, with a decent bed, for $300. The catch is that the cab caught fire and burned up the whole interior, wiring, etc. I guess the front clip is good, drivetrain is good, and the bed is good, plus a few other things. He thinks its a short bed, but Ill belive when I see it. I'm told its a 4x4, 4.0, 5spd etc. and has a factory rollbar. Now I know what your going to say......THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS! Well, your right, so Ill post them up when I pick it up Saturday. If he is wrong however, and it is a longbed.......well, Ill pretty much be pissed off. So my question is this, does the fact that it has a factory rollbar guarantee a SWB?

How about an address so I can, um, make sure that they, umm ,get there OK. Wouldnt want the delivery guy go to the wrong house, I'm just sayin.. :brows:
