diesel question Need help.....6.5 diesel fuel gelling
bpm4x4 replied to 90eliminator's topic in The Pub
Change your fuel filter and put in Power Service 911 or similar product (we use Penray Winter Thaw at work). Fill the filter with 50% power service and 50% fuel. Pour the rest in the tank. We are having similar problems here too with "treated fuel" that is not living up to its name. On a side note your problem was just described to me by my dad (talking about a co-worker of his). That guy put Heet in his diesel and it worked!! I have not tried it, but it might work. -
Not quite. He has an '89, which probably means it has an AX-15 tranny, and the AX-15 tranny doesn't like GL-5 rated gear oil. The sulfer in the formulation eats the synchronizers. THe original factory recommendation was an 8-90 gear oil rated GL-3. However, since you could spend a couple of generations trying to find that, according to Pete the factory has changes their recommendation to motor oil. I think I'd be tempted to try the dedicated synchromesh gear oil from Pennzoil, but I don't have an AX-15 to worry about at the moment. Mopar has updated the recommended oil for the AX-15 (which as stated, you don't have anyway) to 10-30, but I don't know why.

its hella loud

Axle swap was not hard, but I do not recommend the rubicon express mount kit with the Waggy front (the TNT kit looks better). I had a friend weld the brackets on the front and new spring pads on the rear, if I would have tried that I am sure it would have failed right away. I have the Rubicon short arms for now, but hope to go long arm later. Engine is bone stock 4.0 Renix. Exhaust was modified by the previous owner (no cat, y-pipe into dual worn out Thrush glasspack mufflers). Brian

where did you put your arb combressor???
bpm4x4 replied to juan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't have a picture, but mine is mounted in a small toolbox in the bed of the truck. I also have an air tank mounted to the factory roll bar. I also didn't buy the ARB compressor, I used the Viair 450C instead. so I may not have helped you at all  -
yeah, the short arms are going to have to go, but I am going to wheel it for a while before I do that. Here's a link to all of the pics I have of the Jeep. Suspension: Rubicon Express 4.5" lift front with ACOS Front axle: Waggy Dana 44, 4.56 gears, ARB Locker Rear axle: Ford 9" with mini spool, 31 spline moser shafts SOA 35"x15.5 Swamper SX tires on Allied beadlocks

I have been working on this pile of rust since 2003. Most of it has been done on weekends, when I had some time. I know of many people who have done what I did in one weekend, or a little more, and I don't care. Image Not Found I still need a floor, and I should hook up the t-case lever (don't know why, its always going to be in 4-low). sorry about the big pic Brian

On a rig used mainly for wheeling, which he has already stated his is, I do not see why this is such a problem to you. Mine is in the tank and it will fail too, I think his idea is great because if that pump fails, you just go get another one and put it in (10 minute job). If you can change your OE style (that's in the tank) pump in 10-20 minutes, while your rig is sitting between a rock and a hard place (or muddy place), then you can critique his setup all you want. :thwak:

4.0 AW4 to AX15, pilot bearing help
bpm4x4 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used a pb77hd Bower bearing (actually it's a bushing) from car quest, but I went from a peugoat to an ax 15 in my 88. You should look at it and be sure it will or will not work. If it will work you can get the cheap one (Dorman) it's like $2. or just get the cheap one in the first place. -
disk brakes on a rear ford 9inch
bpm4x4 replied to mj88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used 79 Bronco rotors and the bushings like Pete did, I have the same rotors (Bronco) and same calipers (waggy/GM) all around. Check Auto Zone for hub/rotor combos, even though you don't need the hub. I found out it was cheaper to buy the hub/rotor setup than just the rotor. Brian -
Front dana 44 installation question
bpm4x4 replied to blusteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If he has the radius arm D44 I'm not sure that the truss will work with it - at least not without a lot of modification. I think it only works with the Wagoneer or leaf spring Ford D44s. Willy They offer 3 truss systems for a front D44. Ford Radius Arm - TT-1104 Ford Leaf Spring - TT-1103 Waggy 44 (1980+) - TT-1183 That looks way better than the Rubicon Express mount kit I put on my waggy 44, we had to modify it to get it to work too!! -
That's a great tour!! Billy Goat downtown is great!! Also went to Howl at the Moon Saloon, but the one in Dallas was even better!

I will be in Crested Butte the weekend of July 19 for a wedding, but won't have the Jeep (looking for a ride  ) Just in case you happen to be in the area. :chillin: this will be the first time going farther west than Omaha on I-80

Mine is on top of my roll bar on a piece of steel that runs between the light tabs mounted right in the middle, but I only have a 4 ft OE Mack antenna on there for now. with the big spring.

http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032102&cp=2032052.2032075.2032078 is this the spring you need? how did i get 0 on my SWR on my setup? I set up the meter and calibrated it. flipped the switch to SWR, keyed the mic and the meter did not move at all. To verify my findings I tried a different meter (and the one built into the radio), and they all did the same thing.

couldn't you also remove the fuel pump relay (or fuse) with the truck running and just let it die?

We were there for a few days on our honeymoon, went to the Kennedy museum. We also rented a car and then paid to keep it in valet parking for a few days.

I used to run a Cobra 148 GTL with the 102" SS whip, I could talk skip to Texas while driving down the road. SWR was almost 0 (that's good, I think). A lot of trail rides have ravines that people will stand along side and watch, when that truck bounces off that rock (oops!) and pitches the other way, that 102" whip will sting at the minimum when it smacks you in the face. I know that's a little "wordy" but I think you already understand.

Walcott's shop is hella cool too. I just put in a Cobra 29 and a Firestik tunable tip (it screws in and out) 4' antenna on our pos Dodge at work and I think that is one of the best setups for the money. On the 102" antennas I would get stainless steel, not fiberglass (they like to split after a while) and they can be bought at Radio Shack. Keep in mind that if you go on many trail rides, that antenna is not very popular, and in some cases not allowed.

I may start growing rice behind my house. When you watch the news and see Des Moines, IA, I live just a few miles south of there.

That is what mine were when I put in my c-rok plate
