How do? Best place for stock replacement parts?

Howdy folks. I am new here.

I just bought an MJ... 89, 4.0L, Manual, SWB, DANA 30 up front and DANA 44 in back. It has some sort of lift... 2" (I think) as it is running 31*10.5 tires.

I looking into getting the rust repaired and gettin'er painted.

I look forward to getting to know you folks better and contributing to the forums in the future. This site has already been such a great resource for info for somebody just getting into the Comanche thing.

Now onto the stock replacment parts thing... I hate chrome. Nothing against those that do, but my father was killed by chrome ( :brows: ). I am looking to get rid of the chrome windshield trim and gutters and the like in favor of black... Also things like new weather stripping and mirrors, etc...

Any leads? I have a few other things to say, but I'll save them for the "tech" or classifieds.

Thanks

Yea......people that don't like chrome, aren't very "Bright" :teehee:

Sources for parts -

Don't forget This sticky.

http://www.rockauto.com/

http://www.partsamerica.com/

http://www.teamcherokee.com/

And there are other sources.

Don't even ask or look for new body parts for the rear box, they don't exist. Doors, front body parts are interchangeable with '84-'96 Cherokee's (XJ's)

And you can find some answers to questions with-in the 101K posts some where here ;)

The windshield trim is stainless (or maybe aluminum), not chrome. Best way to eliminate it is to remove it and have a glass shop re-set the windshield using a late-model Cherokee surround gasket. The easiest way is to clean it well and paint it with wrought iron matte black paint. Mirrors are already black, unless you have the optional towning mirrors on the door. If so, just remove them and install the standard type.

It's completely possible to run 31" tires with no lift. Your tire size does not indicate that you have a lift. You have to measure.

choo! choo!

seriously though, I've found teamcherokee.com to be a good source, as already noted, and wholesalemopar.com

the thing with wholesalemopar.com though is it may let you go all the way through checkout and then you get an email, sometimes a couple days later, saying no longer available. sooo, you may want to call when you order from there. one nice thing there is you can order individual pieces like weatherstripping whereas on teamcherokee you have to order the whole kit. but both have been good for me........ :D

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH CCCCCCCCCCRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!

Are we all just a bunch of IDIOTS??!! I obviously am at the top of the list. :wall: :thwak: nutkick.gif  :dunce: :wall:

Taz, I am truly embarrassed and offer my apology.

Mr. Slow Norris, please make sure you read this, and to be sure I will send you a PM. We are VERY FORTUNATE to have a very active member here who is a parts specialist at a Jeep dealership. In addition, he is willing, for which we are also very fortunate, to pass on any discounts he is able to. And ultimately, if he can't get it, he will direct you where to look such as a place like teamcherokee.com that may have bought out some NOS and truly has the last few of a particular part. But, please make sure you patronize Brent, and tell him WahooSteeler sent ya from the Comanche Club!

I'll continue the post thievery since Mr. Slow (the new guy who doesn't like chrome) is slow. :D

Mr. Bob, you have always been a class act in my book, and although this thread is a bit hard to follow (for me since I'm slow too ), it appears you are augmenting your class by ordering some chrome from Mr. JT? JT is a semi-class act in this case, but only because he appears selling chrome. Not good............

Arg, chrome pushers...

Like that movie "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" where dude comes back from the army only to find his little bro died of "Gold Chains" and assembles a crack team to bust the gold chain cartel.

Down with chrome... unless (as posted before) it also has fins.

Arg, Mr. Slow underscore Norris lives in a fantasy world like his namesake. Quotes a brilliant analogy from a forgettable B- movie too. But this is the Pub, where everyone can express his/her opinion. I still say welcome aboard mate, all opinions are free to express here.

Yes, Mr. Don, I'm going for the full chrome look on this one poor '89 MJ that just needs that little added touch to bring it out to a over all upper class looking street machine :D

This would be the poor / sad looking MJ in question-

And Mr. JT has found a complete chrome grill and bumper south of the Mason / Dixon line that would be fully rust free to apply to this original Virgina MJ, that don't belong up here in the North for much longer, to have it stand out against other MJ's. This will also have chrome mirrors that another member here sold me, and I have the chrome windshield trim in stock, so this will be a fully decked out. This whole idea came from input from others that have seen this MJ in person, and from your MJ Mr. Don.

Of course the snow is gone now, by a month or two, and the red doors are on there to give this MJ the power door locks and the power windows that Jeep never gave to the MJ's leaving Toledo. A poor '96 XJ Country gave up it's doors for this added feature.

As far as Mr. JT being a supplier of chrome, I have no problem with that. He seams to have no problem finding chrome and pushing it onto others.

That's going to be a great looking rig Bob. 8) I've got some NOS chrome door handles somewhere if you need, and these chrome S10 tailgate handles will bolt on our tailgates.

@hornbrod

Yeah, my fantasy world is a very cool place to be. ;)

By the way, I dig your Hemingway qoute.

How do you like mine? jamminz.gif

Yeah, Hemmingway was my kind of guy. I like your quote too Slow. But if you make too many of those bottles disappear in front of you, you wish you had a frontal lobotomy the next morning.

I prefer to use OEM parts whenever possible, especially on electrical stuff like sensors, sending units, modules, etc. With the aftermarket junk sometimes you have to go through two or three of them before they work right. BLATZ can fix you up with the best OEM parts prices and we're lucky to have him on the forum.

Yea, I'll take you up on the chrome door handles, that's the only thing I'm missing so far, I was just going to get some at Keystone when I'm ready, but if you have them to spare, and can find them......drop me a PM :D

I didn't think about the chrome tailgate handle.....I'll look into that.

Thanks Mr. Don :D
