Comanche Devil Posted March 23, 2008 Share Posted March 23, 2008 When doing a soa what do you do about the lower shock mount? Actually what would be the easiest way of mounting the lower shock mount? Pete M Posted March 23, 2008 Share Posted March 23, 2008 I reused the stock mount and sandwiched it between the axle and the leaf springs. CWLONGSHOT Posted March 24, 2008 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Yup. I made my own as well. I wanted a "cleaner" look than re-using the stock plates. I also wanted them up on the axle tube, out of harms way. I bought shock mounts form the "HELP" rack at the parts store. I took square "C" stock, cut it at about 2" long. Drilled a hole centered, for the stud, mounthed the stud and put a tack weld on the nut. Took the assembly and welded that to the axle tube. I also decided to make new upper mounts to better fit the long shocks I needed. But this isnt required for all instulations. Good luck, CW Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Duner Posted March 24, 2008 Share Posted March 24, 2008 I tried to utilize the stock spring plates slightly modified eventually they failed and replaced them with the 1/2" thick plates. I was willing to give up a bit of ground clearance to run a longer travel shock than if I put them on top. Up top even with my lift I was not happy with how short of a shock it would of required.
