water leaks

Recommended Posts

mine only leaks at the top of the drivers door and i can see the weather striping at the bottom of the door when the door is closed at the rear of the door. i used a old spark plug wire with the ends cut off to force the rubber striping down to make it seal better

does anyone know where to get the rubber pieces that go down along the windshield frame because mine are missing

Mine leaked on both sides at the door, ran down past the hinges under the door sill plate and then ran into the cab from under the sill. Turned out to be the strip of seal JEEP added to the under side of the A pillar when they found out they had a leak problem. I pryed them away from the pillar a bit & squirted sealer under them & then used masking tape to hold them tight against the pillar until the sealer dryed. Haven't had a leaak since. Here's a pic of that rubber strip.

I need to replace one of those.. I have the piece but were do i get the rivets for it?? Can I just use reg metal rivets?? I was just going to use some 3M double sided tape, but now I don't think only the tape will hold...

rained like hell here today.the water pours in through the vent window rubber gaskets, drips on the interior door panels and puddles on the floor. this explains why the door panel cardboard was wet when i changed the radio speakers last month.if this is the only leak i am going to swap the fixed vents from my 1993 xj parts truck.will they fit my 88 mj? are they less likely to leak water?the vents always had wind noise so i was planning to swap them out eventually to the fixed type but now i will move this mod to the top of the list.
just an update on the leaks. since swapping out the vents the leaks have totally stopped.i would have never thought in a million years that so much water could pour in through those moveable vent assemblies! live and learn.

Hey man you think it needs a special rivet gun or just any will work??

Any pop rivet gun will work, I've use the nylon rivets before in a regular gun ;)

I once had an early Lotus Elan that leaked so bad it would fill up to the door sills. Used to have to bail the drivers side to drive home. finally gave up and drilled drain holes in the floor. It still leaked, but the water went right through.

Make sure the drain holes in the fresh air vent in front of the windshield isn't plugged with leaves.

My leak is gone :D . All this hot weather must have softened the sealant (appears to be roofing tar) the glass shop put on trying to stop the leak enough to run into the leaky spot. We had rain for almost 2 days and not a single drop came inside. Now I can put my headliner and interior trim back in.
