Hey guys, not expecting to get even close to an accurate answer, but I Thought I might post a question here that someone even if they don't know the whole story may be able to give me a guess on how much this artifact would be worth. I have no clue myself and would love to have it appraised.

It's a Nazi Bronze eagle, one of the two which were above the Doorways leading in the Reich Chancellery.

not a clue about this thing, just know it was gifted to me and I have no clue what to do about it...

Chris

Wow, that is something you don't see everyday. I'm not sure how many private collectors of NAZI stuff are out there. I would think your best bet, if you can prove it's history would be a museum. Listing that in an ad, might not be such a good idea. Just my thoughts.

thanks for the replies guys. Yea, I didn't think really about listing it in an ad. never really crossed my mind. but I'm pretty sure it's legit, its got the bullet holes in the symbol and one on the chest. MY grandfather had it stolen a few times outta his house

I wonder how much it would go for if it is legit :hmm:

That was going to be my suggestion too...find a museum that might have something similar to give you an idea.

Something like that could be nearly priceless though. I Think I would be kinda scared to have it in my house personally...or at least be sure that nobody knows about it if I did ;) .

Do a google search on it yet?

I've even emailed about 15 of the WWII history museums, and contacted the National society of Appraisers. I haven't although contacted the one in Ohio, might try to get their contact information. But with a 75$ per hour and a 2 hour minimum, I'm not sure I'd be able to wait and talk about it that much

The which is supposedly to be at the Ohio museum is no longer on display

here is the exact descriptions and pictures of the two above the doorways:

The bronze Eagle above was further inside the Chancellery, above the doorway leading to the Runder Saal from the Mosaiksaal. It can be seen today in the Imperial War Museum in London.

my picture

photo of the eagle in another place

The Eagle above the doorway on the other side of the Runder Saal (on the Marmorgalerie side) is in the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio (although it is no longer displayed as seen above)

the last quote makes me wonder beacusae it says it is in the museum, but is no longer

displayed there... :hmm:

Not that I'm into the whole Holocaust thing or whatever, but that thing is bad as he!!... I always saw the Swastika as a cool looking symbol, not that it meant hate or death, just geometric and sorta mystic..

I think you really should find out about it.. I bet its worth alot of money.. I'll give you 20 bucks for it.. :D

don't do ebay, it will make the news and people will hate you.

I would actually LIKE to have that if you get sick of looking at it. I appreciate it for a peace symbol and it's very cool from an artistic standpoint.

Hey buddy, I got first dibs...

This one?

My wife might Remember better than I, but I think that might have been the table where they removed Fillings from teeth and stuff... if I remember correctly that was in a room near or right before the crematorium chambers...

Hope that's not too graphic... it was pretty horrific really, some of people on our tour were from Australia and apparently were not as "aware" of the horrible things that happened there and they were just beside themselves... It's been a few years since I looked at those pics, but my stomach is turning right now just remembering how I felt when we visited.

Not sure, but maybe they are just sayin' that it is still there, just not displayed with the Nazi flag.

It's so confusing on what to do. I may strap it to the top of my truck and see if I can take off with it.

ebay sounds like a bad idea, too. not sure i would ever post something like this on there. Gonna try to get some personal contacts to pull some strings to maybe find out the rough amount, and if it is legit or not.

I hope it is... :redX:

Listen, start at the beginning. Where did your grandfather get it?

I have absolutely no clue. all i know is that he got it from somewhere, had it stolen 3 times, my father took it out of his house after he passed away, and then in order for the IRS to not take it he gifted it to me. Now it's mine and thats why I'm trying to find out if it's legit, and if it's priceless or not.

I've been collecting information on this for the last two months, with no real gain in information, because other than the one which is in the Imperial War museum, I cannot find any other information about the other, which is no longer featured in the museum in Ohio.

I''m still searching though, hopign to find more information on the one which was/is/might be/ in ohio.

  • 8 years later...

Hi,

I was a bit puzzled about your Reich Chancellery bronze eagle - Every piece of Third Reich bronze I have come across has a natural darkened patina after existing as a bronze casting for 70 + years.

I see that your eagle has a bright (just cast) appearance - how is this possible if it is a 70+ year old bronze casting?
