  1. okay so, I've been searching around and I happened to find an ECU on ebay. It's from an MJ 5 speed 2.5 litre, but it's a 91 model, not an 86. I was wondering if this could possibly fit, or does it have to be the exact same year? any responses would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!! Chris
  2. I just got some new information today. Something got shorted, pretty sure it's CDI (ECU.) Apparently, the battery jumped out of it's holder and shorted out on the underside of the hood of the truck. I had a marine battery which i though was okay, no problems, same typical batter as usual. NOPE, theyre taller than stock car batteries, and because the terminals are on the top it also makes it a bit higher. My buddy who worked on it noticed this and put a small carpet between the battery and the hood so it wouldn't touch. Although he didn't tell me this and i ripped the carpet from under the hood and threw it in the bed. I've hopefully found a replacement CDI box and i hope that this will fix the problem. hopefully in the next few days i'll be able to replace it and let you guys know the good or the bad news. thanks for the comments!
  3. hmmmmm, okay. apparently, i don't know whats gone wrong. but hopefully someone can shed some light on the problem after i explain just what happened. Out one day about a week and half ago. on some rocky roads, potholes here and there, and suddenly the truck just dies. were like okay, well, maybe it stalled, and doesn't want to start. we then try to jump start it about 3 times, and that doesn't work. so we begin pushing it to town. on the way there we were trying to figure out what had gone wrong. Well I knew the battery was good because I have 12V lights for the interior hood up straight to it. Okay so i've got power, the next thing i noticed was that I had a 12V fan that I could plug directly into the 12V plug. I plugged it in, turned it on, turned the ignition on, and nothing happened, but on occasion it would turn over very slowly. So somewhere there was power, but not nearly enough to make things work. My buddy then put a screwdriver down to the starter motor and pressed against the terminals. the motor turned, but there was no spark. (I know it isn't the safest thing to do, but thats how we do it here if something doesn't want to start or if were right there and the key is 10ft away and don't feel like getting up.) We both knew it was an electrical problem, somewhere something was blocking the power to everything. Well his dad is a great mechanic, and he's pretty good at engines, better than i am. And he suggested that it was probably the CDI box (ECU) not managing power to all of the components. Thats what it usually is on boat engines, CDI box goes and theres no power to anything which can cause it to not start. Apparently there is also a pretty new ignition switch in the truck, so i and skeptical about the problem being that. I was although the same day, messing around with the new radio, (someone stole the other i had put in) and there were some loose speakerwires, and i think there was either an orange an d black'purple one, and a Purple with an orange stripe also loose. I hae no clue which one that was dangling went to, the scematics in the Haynes manual didn't really help and the colors on the radio are totally different, so maybe something could have shorted out? does this help in anyway of trying to locate whatthe problem is???? Thanks guys, and sorry for the unclear and wrong statements before
  4. I'm not sure if I have one of these, I haven't really taken a look at all the wiring in the truck yet. not sure where it would be either. It's an export of the US, import to here, same as the States cars/trucks. headlights are a pain though, everyone drives on the opposite here, and they don't bother to alter them. so theyre right directly in your eyes, and they have their brights on. yes, sorry, this is what i was talking about. sorry for getting the terms mixed up. too much outboard engine work. The ECU controls all the power from the battery which allows it to be passed to the started, ignition coil, etc etc. I don't even have power to the radio or 12v plug. although i do have a full charged battery?????? sorry again for the confusion!
  5. It's the Renix system. TBI. the entire thing just died when i was out with my sister and a friend on the back roads. friend was positive the CDI was done for so i had a mechanic look at it just to make sure, and it was in fact the CDI which had gone.
  6. Hey guys! Well things wen t from bad to worse, but The problems been found and I need a new CDI box. Was wondering if anyone knew where i could get one, and how much they usually run. will i be able to use one out of another year 2.5 or another engine in general? I've got an 86 2.5 Thanks for the help!
  7. thanks for the info guys, I'll be sure to let him know. very good information also, thanks again for the replies. Chris
  8. Here are some pictures of the inside under the cap. In my opinion from working on 2 stroke engines, it looks pretty similar to the carburetors to those, a it different though.
  9. going to get the pics soon, work got in the way yesterday so i am going to try to get them up soon.
  10. not sure how to run the VIN number, but the vin is: 1JTHW6693GT106492 I'll try to find a site than can run it.
  11. Well I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about, him and his dad were some of the BEST mechanics here on our island and His dad now owns a pretty good sized shop in South Africa, he could although be mistaken, I am not 100% sure. Anyway, here are some pictures, They aren't great and they're kind of blocked by the blue hose, but they're the best I've got on short notice. The bill of sale says that the truck is an 1985, I only have 1986 in my sig because I thought the production models began in 86 and not in 85. I will try to get some more pictures tomorrow, and have them online tomorrow night.
  12. I was out with one of my buddies yesterday, and the battery terminals were loose so i popped the hood so he could adjust them. Whil he was doing it, he noticed that my TBI fuel injection was not actually a Fuel injection setup. He said that it was a pressure carb, which he then said was similar to fuel injection, but instead of the TBI it was setup so the carb pressurized the fuel before entering the engine itself. I have no clue about this type of injection and was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it. thanks Chris
  13. I have absolutely no clue. all i know is that he got it from somewhere, had it stolen 3 times, my father took it out of his house after he passed away, and then in order for the IRS to not take it he gifted it to me. Now it's mine and thats why I'm trying to find out if it's legit, and if it's priceless or not. I've been collecting information on this for the last two months, with no real gain in information, because other than the one which is in the Imperial War museum, I cannot find any other information about the other, which is no longer featured in the museum in Ohio. I''m still searching though, hopign to find more information on the one which was/is/might be/ in ohio.
  14. It's so confusing on what to do. I may strap it to the top of my truck and see if I can take off with it. ebay sounds like a bad idea, too. not sure i would ever post something like this on there. Gonna try to get some personal contacts to pull some strings to maybe find out the rough amount, and if it is legit or not. I hope it is... :redX:
  15. I've even emailed about 15 of the WWII history museums, and contacted the National society of Appraisers. I haven't although contacted the one in Ohio, might try to get their contact information. But with a 75$ per hour and a 2 hour minimum, I'm not sure I'd be able to wait and talk about it that much  The which is supposedly to be at the Ohio museum is no longer on display http://www.thirdreichruins.com/reichsadler.htm here is the exact descriptions and pictures of the two above the doorways: The bronze Eagle above was further inside the Chancellery, above the doorway leading to the Runder Saal from the Mosaiksaal. It can be seen today in the Imperial War Museum in London. my picture photo of the eagle in another place The Eagle above the doorway on the other side of the Runder Saal (on the Marmorgalerie side) is in the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio (although it is no longer displayed as seen above) the last quote makes me wonder beacusae it says it is in the museum, but is no longer displayed there... :hmm:
  16. thanks for the replies guys. Yea, I didn't think really about listing it in an ad. never really crossed my mind. but I'm pretty sure it's legit, its got the bullet holes in the symbol and one on the chest. MY grandfather had it stolen a few times outta his house  I wonder how much it would go for if it is legit :hmm:
  17. Hey guys, not expecting to get even close to an accurate answer, but I Thought I might post a question here that someone even if they don't know the whole story may be able to give me a guess on how much this artifact would be worth. I have no clue myself and would love to have it appraised. It's a Nazi Bronze eagle, one of the two which were above the Doorways leading in the Reich Chancellery. not a clue about this thing, just know it was gifted to me and I have no clue what to do about it...   Chris
  18. Hate is a natural thing...Only been living here for 17 years. (I'm only 17) It keeps me fit though. I mean the damn place sucks, just look at it. It's horrible... :brows: :chillin: :beerhead:  sorry to go off topic. there are more pictures listed here:
  19. Hey everyone. I just wanted to share my 86 MJ after I had near finished my work on her. After I acquired the truck I found this site which has helped me a lot with all the questions I've had. The thing runs great for it being where it was for so long, and surprisingly it started right up (even with the stale gas  ) and it has minimal rust under the passenger and driver side foot wells. the only things that are showing some real surface rust are is drive shaft and the muffler. She's got a few problems, but hey, who doesn't have those little snags every once in a while....The good thing about this truck is that it was given to me after it had been sitting silent for over a year and the owner (whom I know personally) decided I could have it since he had gotten a new car. Overall I didn't have to spend all that much money in getting it running great. It's a 4cyl, 2wd, Comanche XLS longbed. Anyway, I hope you guys like it, and thanks again for all the help you've given me in getting this awesome truck running smooth. Here are some pics: Note*The miles aren't correct, I fiddled around with the odometer to get it to the right miles and this is how it came out  A little Flex. new speakers the horn button :brows: some new interior lights from west marine. They fit nicely, just pop them inside the stock holes and they will tilt down a bit, I think they look superb. This is my normal trans. 15' Boston Whaler (old style) with a stand up console and a 60 hp four stroke Yamaha. It goes about 35 knots (39-40) mph and is excellent for jumping waves. Hope you guys enjoy. :D Later Chris
  20. Yes you were, Thanks DirtyComanche! :D
  21. IT worked! :D, and now I have a reading 8) Thanks for the help guys! Chris
  22. I'm going to pick up a 1/8th tomorrow, and I'll your you guys know if it was the right one, I just need something to plug the hole even if it doesn't work..... Edit: The original one I got from the store which didn't have the original one taken from the truck was a 1/4th**
  23. Hey everyone. I just got a new temperature sender and My idiot store didn't have the exact one, (and I didn't have one to show them, I lost it under all my junk   ) anyway, The one i got didn't fit because the threads were too big in diameter. Does anyone know the diameter of the threads, and what caliber the threads themselves are. IT would be great if someone could maybe look at the box theirs came in or knew the info. The engine that this sensor/sender is for is a 2.5 litre AMC 1986. Thanks!!!
  24. I want one..........
