  1. gotcha. but I'm wondering. What is a cat? I'm new to this still and am not sure what it is. I don't want to fix something that is not broken. ;) I haven't taken anything off under hood that I don't know what it is. I am going to take some picture of under the hood tomorrow, and hopefully some of you guys will be able to tell me what I am missing. I know some things are missing, liek the A/C condenser. thanks again.
  2. not sure what louder than normal is. The sound does seem loud in the wheelhouse though. Maybe a rusted muffler? I haven't had a look at it so i can't say for sure. I'll check next time I am working on it.
  3. ok, yea, the gas has been sitting for a while now. So I'll siphon it out and put some fresh stuff in. I'll also drain the fuel out of the fuel lines to make sure it's not all nasty. thanks. Chris
  4. sorry, i forgot it was fuel injected. but by looking at the motor, it looks like there is a carb. been working on boat engines (2stroke) and I know that if the engine looses some power, it is either due to some water, or some dirt in the carb, and it sometimes is the spark plugs, if you've been running your engine with too much oil. (not fuel injected, but pre mixed fuel that you have to mix yourself) So I was just asking to see if i could get confirmation that there was maybe some dirt in the carb, if there was one. Just before it backfired, the engine would loose power. and then once it backfired, it would regain its normal power. It's not a huge engine 2.5L, so it couldn't be that hard to fix? Pete, I'm not sure if the MJ is an export, My friends gave it to me when it had been sitting for a long time and they were away in Massachusetts. anyway, thanks again.
  5. hey guys. Today I got to test drive my MJ and while i was driving it, it backfired 3 times in 3rd gear. I was just wondering what I should do. I am going to be getting new spark plugs, and will be cleaning the Carb. is there any thing else I should do like, put some fuel cleaner in the gas tank and other stuff?? I also noticed that when I would push the clutch all the way in while coasting, it would start shaking, but not horribly. I am going to be putting some new tires on ( the ones that are on are very old.) After i get the new tires on what should I look for if the shake is still there? Thanks guys!!!
  6. 3000 lbs, ok, well, I think I'll need a bigger barge.... Thanks again.
  7. Hey Guys. I need some help. I need to transport my MJ across a bank of water. The only problem I have with moving it across is not knowing how much it weights. It is a 86, 2.5L I4, long bed, 2wd, manual trans. IF anyone could give me the closest idea of how much it weighs it would be extremely greatly appreciated!!!!! thanks in advance!! (I'm thinking its over 1100 lbs??)
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check out some 225/75/15's. I'd get some nice big tires, but I have no where to go wheeling. just need something to get me goin on the road. my first jeep/car too, so anything will really do. Not going to do much driving anyway (nowhere to go.) Thanks again guys!!!
  9. Hi again. I got the tire size, but the front tires are different from the back tires. the fronts are 205/75/15, and the rears are 235/75/15. should I get sets for the rear and the front or can I get tires somewhere in the middle with a width of 225 or something? so maybe 225/75/15 will work? thanks. Chris
  10. ok, thanks i'll check the web site out. I found the tire size, etc.
  11. Hey guys. I need some new tires. I was just wondering where I would find what size to get for my rims (one the old tires, or the rims themselves?). And I was also wondering if anyone knows where I could order a set of 4 for under 300 $? running short of money and need to find some good inexpensive tires. Thanks!! cheers, Chris.
  12. Yes, the turn signals are working, I replaced the thermal flicker thing for both the signals and the hazards. I tested the brake pedal switch and it seems to be working, (volt meter). The headlights seem to be working fine, but I have not tested the dash lights in the night yet to see if they light up. But as far as i can see, they do not work, and the flicker lights on the dash to not flick on anf off when the switch is engaged. I'll try and take the switches off tomorrow to make sure they're working. Thanks Chris
  13. thank for the replys. I'll check the bulbs again to see if they are dual filament. The gas gauge does work, along with with the other gauges except for the lights for them. DO the dome lights include the lights for the dashboard? thanks
  14. hey, I just got a 1986 Comanche and the brake and dome lts do not work. I have checked the bulbs on the break lights and they are fine. the fuses are also fine. I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to fix the break lights?? The dome lights on the other hand do not work at all, and every time I put a fuse in the Fuse box for them, it blows. any help on these things would be appreciated greatly!!! Thanks so much. Chris
