It's now almost 1am and I wanted to finish up my weekend project. I've been  working on getting the indicator panel on the left side of the dash cleaned up. The last few days after everyone goes to bed - 10:30/11 - I am at the kitchen table buffing out the plastic panel. Holy crap it hasn’t gone over well with the wife lol. I have polishing compound sprayed out over the table and a bit of splatter on the wall . Well worth it though lol. I’m sure you guys will recognize this piece even though it’s not in the dash. It is in really rough shape. I don’t know what is covering up the indicators but they were barely visible->

Found my front drive shaft outside behind a plant along the wall of the house

It had been out there for years and I thought it was in the corner of the garage with the other drive shafts :dunce:. It was frozen shut and rusty. I kept oiling it with marvelous mystery oil and eventually freed it up. Took the wire wheel and cleaned off the rust then sprayed it with a few coats of paint ->

Hopefully it’s the correct drive shaft - I have a few lol. It’s going to need a special u-joint for it to bolt up to the yolk of the front D44 before I put it in.

** Drahcir495 Part Two **

I have officially started to resurrect the truck. I tackled the headliner over the last day and a half. As I said earlier, I was able to get a headliner board from Buxmj - thanks again Buck :beerbang:. The headliner board was in amazing condition->

I had two small damaged areas ->

I also wanted to smooth out the tears and divots where the material would glue to. Found this in the garage, but I don’t know exactly what it is intended for? I would guess drywall tape :dunno: ->

I use the headliner spray glue I picked up from Joann’s Fabric ->

to adhere the drywall tape over the damaged parts ->

I moved on to repairing the missing board pieces

Then I used the tape to create a backing for the expanding foam to set up against ->

I can’t remember who’s buildup page that I got the idea to use expanding foam, but . (Found it - USN_JeepMJ’s build up page) Filled the areas with the foam and cut and sanded it to match the original lines ->

It came out pretty darn good.

Just going to have to redo those too. I’m just not in the mood to take on that job now, so it is a project for another day.

Not a lot to do to the MJ while it’s at the shop, so doing small things I’m able to do in the mean time. I’m going to do what NicknTime did with his winch and putting in dash controls. I have the exact same winch he has on his Jeep, so it is going to be a breeze to follow along with his installation video. I ordered two regular rocker switches and two winch control switches. One for power and the other for line in and out control ->

Snapped them all in ->

It’s strange but my dash has plates secured to the plastic for the switches rather than on a mount :dunno: like my Cherokee?

Great work! May I ask how you removed the fabric from the headliner? Also, I can't clearly see from the pictures, but did you manage to keep the thin layer of foam padding intact? Mine is in otherwise perfect condition except a big cigarette burn that the P.O. did, so I was maybe contemplating doing thame as you...

Thank you .

You know, I was wondering how I would be able to get the material off the backing board too. Fortunately, the headliner material and foam had already fallen off. I did attempt to pull the material off my damaged one, but pulling on it was just tearing the board apart. Maybe letting something soak into the material like denatured alcohol :dunno:. Very glad I didn’t have to figure that one out. The Sun visors were plastic, so you can just pull off the material and brush off the foam with a metal bristle brush. When you figure it out let me know

Mixed feelings about how the Sun visors came out. Not even close to the first time I redid them. First I ripped off the material and laid it over the new material to get an idea of how much to cut ->

I had a lot of the backing foam left on the plastic, so I used a big metal bristle brush to get it off ->

Then I just sprayed the visor and also the material and set it down on top of it ->
2A9C684A-2575-4242-90A2-BAEC45A2F6A1.jpeg.0baa1a77020f372ca58d8cd6ddd8315f.jpeg

Flipped it over and looped over and trimmed up the excess->

then I started on the passenger side. While separating the visor it broke :fistshake1:->

By some miracle, I had another one in my spare parts bin, and it was a passenger side visor :beerbang:. It had been repaired with JB weld by somebody else at some point ->

It was raised and needed to be sanded down so that it wouldn’t show through the material. By a second miracle I actually had sanding paper gritty enough to smooth it out ->

Repeated the process with the headliner material on this one. Snapped it together and put in the mirrors. Then I discovered the drivers side mirror was broken :brickwall:. Just not my day working on this. Both visors have indents on the visible side which is very upsetting. I will just have to hope that they will pop out. I am probably just have to live with it for now ->

If Joann’s ever gets some of this color in I’m going to get enough to do them over. But I will be paying someone to do it

Don't know why it adds pictures to the bottom of my posts

Super cool. Got home in time to stop my step daughter from dropping him off into a pond - . My son and I brought him back to the reserve to be with the other tortoises

I just couldn’t handle looking at the job I did redoing the Sun visors. I really messed them up. Finger indentations everywhere :fistshake1:. I had to redo them. Had no idea how I was going to get the material off them seeing as they had just been done. Ended up using paint thinner to soak the material with then left it for a while to dissolve the glue  and hopefully it would come off ->

It worked out well but it took some time to get it all off. I really took my time and did it all over again. Came out a heck of a lot better with almost no divots. Before->

I watched a few YouTube videos and one guy was using a pin like tool to pull up the foam and fabric. I will try it with a sewing needle and see what happens. I believe I’m the only one who will notice, so I can live with what’s there. One thing I did manage to do that can’t be easily fixed is I broke one of the mirrors somewhere along the way :shaking:
