aussiebob Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Have a cracked header and that #2 manifold bolt is frozen not keen on using heat any thoughts?. 88 4.0 Took 4 1/2 days soaking and hammering.
89 MJ Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Penetrating oil, let it sit for a day or so, penetrating oil again, repeat over a few days, then hopefully it’ll come off.
aussiebob Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 Been doing that the last few days and banging on the head ,man its in such a bad spot and not given!.
75sv1 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Heat won't damage anything in the area. Just get the bolt or nut to a dark red, if you can. Also, you can try and grind off the nut. Then spray with a rust buster.
hgeranium Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Mirroring what the other guys said, heat may be your best option. Out of all the parts on the engine, the manifold is what deals with the most heat so I think you’re in little danger of messing anything up applying heat
aussiebob Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 Just when l was going the heat method way did one last soak with liquid wrench and hammered the crap onto the bolt what a feeling when that sucker started a slow move! 4 1/2 days of soaking and hammering on manifold bolt head.
pizzaman09 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I highly recommend the inductive heaters for bolt heads. They let you get pretty much just the nut hot instead of the whole area. I purchased one recently and it's a magic tool
