No spark after replacing the CPS

Recommended Posts

1987 long bed 4x4 6cylinder automatic.

I’m at my wits end on this one. I replaced the tank, filter and fuel pump recently. I couldn’t get it to start. Cranks but no start. So I replaced the CPS and still nothing - even when spraying starter fluid into the intake.

Is there a way/wire I can test coming from the ecm?

TIA

So it didn't start before replacing the CPS and it still won't start after replacing the CPS?

Have you pulled a spark plug to verify that there is in fact no spark?

Using a voltmeter or 12vdc testlight (preferred) check for Battery_Voltage on the following pins (use battery_negative terminal for ground):
D1_5:  Battery_Voltage (Hot at all times)
D1_6:  At KEY ON, (Hot for 2-3 seconds). During CRANK, (Hot at all times).
D2_4:  At KEY ON, (Hot at all times). During CRANK, (Hot at all times).

I just did these tests and they all checked out.

Absolutely verify you have/ don't have spark before you start throwing ignition parts at the jeep.

Will do and thanks for responding.

but have you checked for spark?

pull the coil wire on the distributor (not dizzy) cap and set it close to something metal in the area,  have helper try to start the vehicle, see if the

spark jumps from the coil wire to metal...  (this is easier than pulling a spark plug IMHO).

if you are brave,  hold on to the coil wire  LoL...........  (don't do this)

I had my coil contacts at the ICM be dirty and result in no spark condition. If the coil has never been replaced or removed, the contacts are probably dirty and are now causing enough resistance to not spark.

Hell we all should be checking our coil contacts if we’re still running original Renix ICMs.
